so that Sombres Forets album is pretty good, nothing I feel compelled to listen to again though
I didn't like it that much at first but then it really started to grow on me. I like it a lot now.

rasputin 01-20-2009 07:13 PM

It's pretty cool, not amazing, but good.

RetiredAt21 01-20-2009 07:14 PM

I like Quintessence a lot more.

Angmar 01-20-2009 07:23 PM

Qintiessence is nowhere near as solid or consistent, the new album took a little while to grow on me but now I think it's amazing. I don't really see how you could think it's directionless but ok.

RetiredAt21 01-20-2009 07:27 PM

Steve, do you like Paysage d'Hiver?

Angmar 01-20-2009 07:33 PM

Yes I quite enjoy him.

RetiredAt21 01-20-2009 07:41 PM

What are your favorite Paysage albums?

Angmar 01-20-2009 07:42 PM

Self Titled is probably the best, but Darkspace II is probably my favorite work with him involved, but Paysage has a lot more work which is mostly all solid stuff.

RetiredAt21 01-20-2009 07:44 PM

Well tell me the names of your favorite Paysage albums.

Angmar 01-20-2009 07:48 PM

Self Titled (which would be called Paysage d'Hiver, oddly enough!), Winterkaelte and Die Festung are all good albums.

RetiredAt21 01-20-2009 07:49 PM

OK, I'll check those out. I only have Einsamkeit at the moment and I like it quite a bit, but I wanna hear more.

Angmar 01-20-2009 07:51 PM

Die Fetsung is an ambient album but it's really cool, the Self Titled has the most unique sound of all his albums I'd say. Winterkaelte is really long but I enjoy it quite a bit, most of the songs are pretty sweet and the production is nice.

RetiredAt21 01-20-2009 07:53 PM

Alright cool, I'll get the self titled first.

rasputin 01-20-2009 07:56 PM
and the production is nice.
nice?

Angmar 01-20-2009 07:57 PM

Yes nice, it's very fitting for the music and is pulled off very well.

rasputin 01-20-2009 08:01 PM

i thought it sucked, although i was told that might have something to do with the rip

Angmar 01-20-2009 08:02 PM

could be

masscows 01-20-2009 08:13 PM
Qintiessence is nowhere near as solid or consistent, the new album took a little while to grow on me but now I think it's amazing. I don't really see how you could think it's directionless but ok.
it just sounds like another one of those burzum/mutiilation-influenced one man bands that are so common in north america

switched 01-20-2009 08:15 PM

definitely influenced by mutiilation

masscows 01-20-2009 08:18 PM

possibly

Angmar 01-20-2009 08:31 PM
it just sounds like another one of those burzum/mutiilation-influenced one man bands that are so common in north america
lol dude mutiilation you must be fucking kidding me come on seriously? I love how anyone calls any somber mid paced black metal burzum worship, it's ridiculous, Sombres Foret are NOT Burzum worship, it sounds nothing like most crappy usbm and is way above it. Please try again.

masscows 01-20-2009 08:33 PM

it sounds like det som engang var mixed with filosofem with folksy parts laced in

it's not bad, but i don't see anything really great about it

Angmar 01-20-2009 08:35 PM

It sounds like black metal, that is mid paced, and has acoustic sections. I don't see why everyone has to relate this kind of black metal directly to Burzum worhsip, it's absurd.

Silenius 01-20-2009 09:26 PM
i thought it sucked, although i was told that might have something to do with the rip
I have Kerker on A5 digi and I can say the quality is superb compared to the one track tape rip that's on the web. I think this is also the case with Winterkaelte.

Nostalgia 01-20-2009 09:30 PM

I don't even know why people call Burzum depressive black metal. Besides Hvis Lyset Tar Oss, I don't see anything Varg ever released that would come off as depressing.

switched 01-20-2009 09:32 PM

now that you mention it, filosofem wouldn't be out of place in a popular japanese animated television program

Angmar 01-20-2009 09:32 PM

Mostly it's his vocals that so many of the dsbm bands try and copy.

Txus 01-20-2009 09:33 PM

Nick: haha, that would be awesome

lol at Sombres sounding like Burzum

Angmar 01-20-2009 09:33 PM

Even more lol at them sounding like Mutiilaiton.
