audacity

StaffReviewer 03-25-2012 10:56 AM

whats that supposed to mean

fingers mccoy 03-25-2012 11:01 AM

free software = you are bad because money equals quality

Gorgon 03-25-2012 11:07 AM

I liked your stuff, ethan, but you need to hire someone to properly master your work

it was barely listenable

publicastration 03-25-2012 11:08 AM

it's hardly barely listenable lol

jesus haven't any of you heard any tour demos

fingers mccoy 03-25-2012 11:09 AM

it's obviously listenable

Gorgon 03-25-2012 11:09 AM

it is barely listenable, it's so loud and everything is clipping all of the time to the point where it hurts my ears to listen to it

fingers mccoy 03-25-2012 11:10 AM

turn it down ya shitter

publicastration 03-25-2012 11:10 AM

what are you listening on? nothing is clipping except the cymbals at some points and overcompression causes some staticy shit from time to time

trust me I don't need to hear about the mix I know but it's a first release and just so we have something to put on a merch table.

fingers mccoy 03-25-2012 11:11 AM
what are you listening on? nothing is clipping except the cymbals at some points
look at the waveform dude

Gorgon 03-25-2012 11:11 AM
what are you listening on? nothing is clipping except the cymbals at some points
sennheiser hd650

@fingers
well that's not a real solution but yeah that would make it listenable

I don't see why you can't just agree that you need a real sound engineer to master your work. I even said I liked it just that the mastering sucked

publicastration 03-25-2012 11:14 AM

when have I disagreed that it could use real production? It's more or less a tour demo so I don't think production matters as much at this point

spirit 03-25-2012 11:16 AM
http://eurekadriver.bandcamp.com/album/i-hardly-knew-her-ep

it was nice of you to give deaf people the opportunity to work in the music world.

was it the same deaf guy throughout, or did you have4 a different on for engineering, production and mastering?

publicastration 03-25-2012 11:17 AM

it was done really haphazardly and trust me our 2nd guitarist (if he's with us that long) is not touching any more production

more or less we tracked in logic then exported the wavs into another program for another dude to "master" then took two mono exports from that panned em and smashed em together yeah it's really not good

Gorgon 03-25-2012 11:18 AM

well I dunno you got all insulted when I said you needed it

and ah I thought it was supposed to be an ep

you know since it has EP in the name

I kept telling them to call it a demo

and to be honest maybe its just the speakers I'm listening on but you can more or less hear everything pretty well so I don't think that's "hardly listenable". clipping doesnt bother me cause i listen to a lot of bm though so idk

spirit 03-25-2012 11:22 AM

@Mr. Reviewer - don't need the analysis to hear that - sounds like shit from the off

publicastration 03-25-2012 11:23 AM

don't need your comments to know it's not great when I've acknowledged as such many times

but you know

totally constructive criticism on the least important aspect of the subject

the overall sound is the least important aspect?

ahh well that'd be better

I have a pretty nice headphone set up and a really nice speaker set up (dad gave it to me :3) so clipping really gets on my nerves. I could listen to it, that's why I said it was barely listenable, I just mean that the clipping etc. makes it annoying

the music was good though

I wil give it a better listen through and tell you what I think. I play bass so maybe that'd be the best advice I can give? I've been playing for 7 years, if that makes a difference.

StaffReviewer 03-25-2012 11:26 AM

yeah the music itself isnt bad
from what i could hear at least

publicastration 03-25-2012 11:27 AM

yeah you probably would hear the clipping more on headphones too

i should have stepped up and had more of a hand in the production it would have sounded loads better. our 2nd guitarist just acts like he knows what he's doing (he doesn't) and we wanted to get something out so we just went with what we could work with. You should have heard the tracks right after they were "mastered" before I bitched about them, shittons of reverb on. EVERYTHING.

well in something i would call a demo yeah

there's this thing called the volume control.

if i want it louder i turn it up, if i want it quieter, i turn it down. the quality will remain the same. it's a shame what you've linked is clippy as all hell and detracts significantly from the listening experience because i'm sat here going "this sounds bad".

StaffReviewer 03-25-2012 11:30 AM

thats true i guess

thats y being in bands sucks

publicastration 03-25-2012 11:31 AM

i think my friend might produce our full length.

I went to school with him and he was one of the 4 people in my audio class who actually gave a shit and the stuff he's been doing now is sounding pretty good

StaffReviewer 03-25-2012 11:32 AM

it still sounds better than carbonized gnawing mandible

speaking of which, you should get brent to "remaster" your demo

Gorgon 03-25-2012 11:34 AM

lol

got some good bass

StaffReviewer 03-25-2012 11:35 AM

noon are you done with an album yet

(*The Sacred Chao*) 03-25-2012 11:37 AM

pretty much, should be in a week or so, i mean im pretty much done the final tracklist we're gonna put out two albums at once on the label salient sounds, waiting for both us to finish that now

publicastration 03-25-2012 11:38 AM

is a cheap midi keyboard and the newest reason enough to get started making beats

NEEDTOPOST 03-25-2012 11:38 AM

noon's album is great

listened to it like maybe 8 times now without feeling obligated

StaffReviewer 03-25-2012 11:39 AM
is a cheap midi keyboard and the newest reason enough to get started making beats
you dont even really need a midi keyboard tbh

(*The Sacred Chao*) 03-25-2012 11:39 AM

i dont need a usb keyboard if you can use a piano roll/midi editor

maybe on less sample based beats its more complicated without a good setup

but either way you can make something hard/bangin on any setup

(*The Sacred Chao*) 03-25-2012 11:40 AM
noon's album is great

wuvvly

btw theres gonna be a final version with some track changes, ill give you that ahead of time

Gorgon 03-25-2012 11:44 AM

some advice I've got for the bass on the first song: don't be afraid to add in notes to chords sometimes. A simple example: instead of playing the root add in a 7th or 9th.

Also I don't know if you mean to do this or not but some of you bass parts are pretty busy when the guitar parts are busy as well, I'd recommend not doing that and just letting the guitars take precedence. like the part around 1:50 in Marquis Comb, I think your bass part is a bit too complicated but that might just be me.

I can't really comment on how you're playing your parts because I can't hear it :\

I do like your music though

publicastration 03-25-2012 11:45 AM

i just feel tracking beats by hand with a keyboard would be loads easier

Gorgon 03-25-2012 11:46 AM

I'm actually so fucking excited
I missed the upload you put for the unfinished one cause I went to school :(
