I'm looking for suggestions.

I like mainly Opeth, Porcupine Tree, and King Crimson, aswell as some other odds and ends. I like the folky acoustic bits (Nick Drake) and some Melodic Death (Jester Race). I'm not picky, but I definetly want something versatile like Opeth.

Prog *insert genre here* is usually good, but anything goes as long as intrumentation skills don't hinder the band.

I hear about Nevermore a lot, but I've not listened to much at all. Same goes with Death.

Recommend away please.

TWade 08-06-2005 08:29 PM

Whats the difference between black metal and death metal?

grungeleftovers 08-06-2005 10:06 PM

Nirvana - Bleach (they use some pretty kickass heavy guitar distotion on this album)
Alice In Chains - Unplugged (incredible)
Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral (loud noisey and raw "you're god's dead and no one cares!)

Some Nevermore stuff I uploaded.

For Death's progressive side, get Symbolic or Sound of Perseverance. If you like it heavier and more death-y but still prog-like, Human is also great.

Song recommendations -
Crystal Mountain
Symbolic
Bite the Pain
Story to Tell
Voice of the Soul
Ive been working on my double kick latley and i want to hear a lot more heavy metal with blasting double kick. Anyone have any suggestions?
Trivium is the fastest ive heard yet.
Try Slayer - "Angel of Death", "War Ensemble", "Scrum" "Point" "Dittohead" "Disciple"

Anthrax - "Deathrider"

Sepultura - "Arise" "Desparate cry" "Dead embryionic cells"

I remember that they all have at least one section where the double kick fully goes off.

Or maybe Brothers of Metal, try those two.

SactoUnited 08-11-2005 04:29 PM

I recommend people stop listening to Slipknot and all other ****ty nu metal bands.

Stoic 08-11-2005 04:35 PM

It'd be wise if you edited your post since it's against the rules and has nothing to do with this thread's purpose. :)

/no, I'm not a fanboy, I dont even listen to Slipknot :p
