One of the better songs off SFSGSW!

Lord Abortion 03-25-2005 03:53 PM
He started the band Death and basically the whole genre of death metal. Their first album was pretty brutal, but later in Death's career they moved more towards progressive death (download Voice of the Soul and you'll see), great stuff all throughout their career. Chuck was the only original member, they went through lots of lineup changes. He died in I think 1997 of a brain tumor.
IAJP 03-25-2005 04:09 PM

Cryptic Writing is a good album.
Incredibly underated.
The song "Have cool will travel" is truly great.

MAthiAS 03-25-2005 07:39 PM

Me either, though every song off of it that I've downloaded is awesome.

RiceMonster 03-25-2005 07:51 PM
Can anyone post a track listing from Cryptic Writings? I must have some of the songs from that album on Rude Awakening.
Just go to http://www.metal-archives.com and search Megadeth. You can find a track listing of all their albums there.

KIMB

FatalEnergy 03-26-2005 02:09 PM

yeah, Rust In Peace had a lot of speed metal, so I would agree and say KIMB was the thrashiest and the least speed metalish

wrongnote85 03-26-2005 02:13 PM

man KIMB is the ultimate thash/speed combination! listen to loved to death or rattlehead and see what i'm talking about.

RiceMonster 03-26-2005 02:15 PM

I still have to get KIMB, but I haven't seen it in any stores.

Sleeper 03-26-2005 02:16 PM

I completely agree that KIMB is the most thrash, I havent listened to it in a while. Ive been completely loving rust in peace though.

MAthiAS 03-26-2005 02:42 PM
I still have to get KIMB, but I haven't seen it in any stores.
You probably won't find it in stores, just order it from amazon.

Or hit me up on AIM, Zephyr2k3

btoto 03-26-2005 03:59 PM

Most Speed Metal - Killing Is My Business
Most Thrashy - Peace Sells
Most Melodic - So Far So Good So What
Most Expiremental - Rust In Peace

MAthiAS 03-26-2005 04:03 PM

KIMB is definitely the thrashiest. And IMO SFSGSW doesn't really have a defining feature, its just a great album.

btoto 03-26-2005 04:35 PM

No, KIMB is speed metal ! Do you know the difference between thrash and speed? I'm not very good in comparing those two genres, but as usually most people confuse them and consider as the same thing, I'll try to help as much as I can.

First, speed metal is not faster than thrash (even if it's called speed). Speed metal is a child of heavy metal and punk rock. And thrash was born when speed metal lost it's "rock'n'roll" sound (Motorhead, anyone?), remained melodic but got heavier.

A Megadeth example:

1. Rattlehead has a very Rock'n'Roll sound, so does The Chosen Ones and Mechanix. Singing is melodic and happy (even poppy, if you allow me to say so). When Black Firday, Devil's Island, Wake Up Dead, Bad Omen......in short, everything except I Ain't Superticious and My Last Words remains melodic, but adds a mood of agressiveness and darkness. Peace Sells is a different case. I'd say that song is more Classical Heavy Metal sounding to me. I might be wrong though.

2. The only song on KIMB that is very close to thrash is Loved To Death. I think it completely loses it's rock'n'roll sound and happy singing balance. Which makes the album even more interesting.

A Metallica example:

1. No Remorse, Seek'n'Destroy, Hit The Lights, 4 Horsemen, Jump In The Fire - all of these songs have a rock'n'roll mood. They might sound heavy, but they're not agressive. When Fight Fire With Fire, Creeping Death and Trapped under Ice are agressive and dark-sounding.

2. Motorbreath sounds very punk. Whiplash may sound thrash but it's still speed metal. The only pure thrash songs on the album are Phantom Lord and Metal Militia. (However, Phantom Lord has a very Motorhead like happy main riff)

So Far So Good So What is indeed the most melodic. The intro instrumental is heavy but very melodic. Set The World Afire (my least fav) is thrash, but I can't get into it. It's a complete wank. The rhythm and music keep changing all the time and thus the song loses it's balance.
Mary Jane and In My Darkest Hour are very melodic and heavy, what else to say???

502 sounds very speed metal to me. why? read above !

Liar is a bit confusing to define, it sound both rock'n'roll in some places, both dark and has a never ending melodic mood.

Hook In Mouth??? I can't define it. All I can say - Kick A$$. Just a great piece of music.

Thanks for reading :thumb:

Deth 03-26-2005 10:23 PM

I just found the Mortal Kombat Annialation (spelling) soundtrack and there's a remix of Almost Honest. It's pretty different for Deth, though I haven't heard the orginal.

i think ive heard it before,im not sure though

Apocalyptic Raids 03-26-2005 10:47 PM

I would say Rust In Peace is both the most thrashiest and melodic.

Thrash doesn't ALWAYS have to sound agressive, btoto.

Sleeper 03-27-2005 12:13 AM

Well i never considered them to be very melodic, but thrashy, yes.

FlyingPaul_83 03-27-2005 12:22 AM

I consider them melodic, very thrasy, but melodic as well

Sleeper 03-27-2005 12:29 AM

what songs would you consider melodic by them?

FlyingPaul_83 03-27-2005 12:31 AM

Holy wars, The scorpion, count down to exctinction

Sleeper 03-27-2005 12:34 AM

what album is the scorpion on?

FlyingPaul_83 03-27-2005 12:34 AM

The system has failed

Sleeper 03-27-2005 12:36 AM

FlyingPaul_83 03-27-2005 12:43 AM

I liked it i thought it was great. some great songs like Kick the chair, the scorpion, back in the day, it's a good one, not as good as RIP but it's good

wrongnote85 03-27-2005 01:10 AM

it's not my fav off the album, but truth be told is a song i really like, as far as new deth goes.

Sleeper 03-27-2005 01:14 AM

Is a world needs a hero worth getting, I heard Motospycho and it was bad.

drummerman 03-27-2005 01:23 AM

I think it is, I like almost every song off it.

Apocalyptic Raids 03-27-2005 02:02 AM

The World Needs a Hero is ok. Nothing really that special.

Return To Hanger 18 is a great song but.

News from Dave:
There are so many rumors going around about this summer tour that I am really enjoying myself. We confirmed the fourth band for our main stage (if there is a second stage) and I am thrilled to announced that the total amount of letters for the four bands so far are about 40 letters. I know this helps a lot of a little and will make some of you mad.

We are just deciding who the last guest will be on this initial "flagship" run of what we hope to be a recurring festival next year too.

Lastly, I had a huge conference call with all my management and attorneys yesterday about my career and its current ascension, much to my delight, and I have made up my mind what I am going to do about Megadeth. I will make my announcement sometime this summer. It is going to take a lot of work, and prolly some intense struggles; not that I am a stranger to them, but I think some of you will be happy for me.
So its not Ozzfest... Lets see...

Megadeth - 8
Dream Theater - 12

So the other 2 have to be 20... Testament is 9 and Anthrax is 7... so figure the fourth band is either 11 or 13 letters.

EDIT: Okay, I just read that Dave said Exodus is a no because they already toured with them.

And Dave said it would be an East/West thing, well, both DT and Anthrax are NY bands.

Sleeper 03-27-2005 10:01 PM

What brand of bass did David Ellefson play?

36Dritzlfists 03-28-2005 12:02 PM

I heard Megadeth is doing a summer tour with Anthrax, Motorhead, and Mudvayne. I also heard the name of the tour is gonna be called "Slave to the Metal" tour. Its a pretty credible site I read this from.
