maniac0796 03-20-2007 04:19 PM

... was gonna set you back a bit.

the_pure_drummer 03-20-2007 04:20 PM

I wont neg you because i'm not a nasty person!

Undisco Kidd 03-20-2007 04:21 PM

so based on modest mouse's 'fire it up' and the arcade fire's 'intervention', i can, with no hesitation, officially state that 2007 is the year of the glockenspiel.

my prediction for fashion trends:

rattan handles are NOT going to be in style.
brass is definitely the 'in' sound. throw away your acetyl and aluminum mallets.

TimJim 03-20-2007 04:21 PM

i could use rep!

The Ska Man 03-20-2007 04:23 PM

I gotta spread some befo giving it to you, foo!

TimJim 03-20-2007 04:23 PM

ska is amazing!

Undisco Kidd 03-20-2007 04:24 PM
brass is for ***
normally, i'd agree. for anything more than quarter notes, brass is way too heavy for me. aluminum works incredibly for quick runs and such, but if you listen to the aforementioned songs, you'll hear the heavy half/quarter notes that wouldn't be as bold if you used titanium.

maniac0796 03-20-2007 04:24 PM

Hey white, hows it going?

My drum shop keeps getting loads of Gretsch kits in, and i dunno which ones are the good one, and which ones are the beginner ones.

Guide to gretsch lines please?

and the suicide machines!

Little Android Man 03-20-2007 04:27 PM

Nighthawk- lowest (?)

Blackhawk- low end, with mahogony (i have one)

Catalina- mostly jazz sizes, but now there is rock sizes. different woods i think

Renown- maple, great kits. (considering for my next set)

im sure there are more, im just too lazy to look.

maniac0796 03-20-2007 04:29 PM

I want a premier series but £1700 for a 5 piece is absurd for something that'll probably break.

You gotta check out some of the good stuff.
Streetlight Manifesto, Catch 22, BOTAR, Operation Ivy, Johnny Okay, FIF, Reel Big Fish, Mighty Mighty Bosstones.

And then theres two-tone and first-wave ska. Old, but awesome.
Prince Buster, The Skatalites, Desmond Dekker, Toots And The Maytals.

Also, TJ, Suicide Machines rock. Supertones, I'm not too big on.

The Ska Man 03-20-2007 04:31 PM

'night...it's like 6:30 here, though.

Little Android Man 03-20-2007 04:31 PM

reel big fish are pretty awful. HORRIBLE lyrics.

I agree on the lyrics being crap, but they're funny. It's so lighthearted. At least it used to be, the newect CD is crap. No horns, lyrics comparable to stuff on the radio..eeeeeeeew.
