Just bought Wire and Glass and let my Dad have a listen.

Seafroggys 08-14-2006 05:54 PM

i can't imagine See Me Feel Me being in the middle of a set, it has to be at the end pre-encore or the end of the encore.

jeff, one day, if you can, i will do anything you want on the internets for just part of what you have there. this is my favorite era for The Who, Moon be damned. no pressure. i know it's a hassle. but my b-day is in sept. so pleeeease, give it some thought. i see these things on torrent sites sometimes but last i tried the torrent was dead. so whatever you can do would be really, really great. you have no idea.

let me know how your dad likes Wire And Glass....

EDIT: seafroggys that is actually a classic set closure for The Who. pretty common. so i don't get that whole "see me, feel me" thing. and "how can you do it alone" live is killer.

Seafroggys 08-14-2006 06:17 PM

huh, well I'm not that famliiar with it I guess.

Someone on Youtube uploaded the entire Las Vegas 'Reunion' concert, I'm thinking its the beginning of their 2000 tour. Pretty good, only 14 songs though.

Ephemeral 08-14-2006 06:26 PM

Haha, don't worry. I'll upload it soon for all you guys. The quality is alright, considering it is a bootleg, but the performance really shines through.

I'll have to convert it to .mp3 though, it's in flac right now, so the whole show is 958 MB =o

EDIT: Oh, and my Dad thought it was pretty good. We're both going to go see The Who together. ^_^

yeah, i've seen some of that youtube stuff. it's great. i was going to link it here but i guess it's pretty common. just go to the site and search the Who. I saw Squeeze Box from '82. it's great.

Anyone else going to Virgin Fest in Baltimore? :-D

Street_Fighting_Man 08-14-2006 08:18 PM

Ah, victory. I have finally managed to make it to The Who topic. All it took was a re-registry. I've seen the Hyde Park show that was broadcast; it was absolutely fantastic. I'm hoping that I can see The Who this winter. They're definitely still putting on a fantastic live show. The new studio stuff is sounding tight, too. Wire & Glass was wonderful.

Ephemeral 08-15-2006 02:34 AM

Damn I'm hooked on Wire and Glass now. It's soooo good.

I was going to, but I'll be in Michigan so that didn't really work out. It would be cool, but there's a lot there that I don't really care about that makes the ticket more expensive, you know what I mean?

I think you are right on all counts there. And the shows in the States should be even tighter and more fan oriented so far as the setlist. Welcome to The Who Thread :)

I think that is wise, Lunch. They will probably play a shorter "festival set" at Virgin, too. Like some they've played in Europe. Better to try to see them headlining their own show.

masada 08-15-2006 04:59 PM

someone should send me the new ep
Damn I'm hooked on Wire and Glass now. It's soooo good.
i can play it in a continuous loop at home for hours. really. while I'm doing stuff, but you know what i mean. it is very, very good...

Ephemeral 08-16-2006 12:27 PM

Yeah, can't wait for the full thing in October omg.

JohnXDoesn't 08-16-2006 08:06 PM

Found this at Pete's site and thought it might be of some interest to us as fans and also those who may live nearby the event and want to go:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/4793645.stm

i have no idea what an "Electric Prom" is. The Who will be performing an 11 song "mini opera" there. i don't think it is the album which is coming out, but an extended and expanded Wire And Glass set. Although I can't be sure of that, either. Just a guess, but that's what it sounds like. Should be interesting.

BludgeonySteve 08-16-2006 10:41 PM

Is it really that good? The new album?

Maggot Dream 08-16-2006 10:43 PM

Has anyone heard anything about The Who playing Vegoose this year? I've heard rumors about it, just wondering if anyone else knows anything.

Ephemeral 08-16-2006 11:52 PM

It's good yes.

Play in Market Mall has it for $4
Is it really that good? The new album?
yes, it's really good IMO. it's a maxi-single/"mini opera" thing. 12 minutes long, basically. very nice. full album in October.

JohnXDoesn't 08-19-2006 03:17 PM

Who else out there thinks the 1979-81 post Moon era was a peak time for The Who live? Just as good as the earlier years. If not Leeds era good, just as good is a different way. I like the horn section they brought in '79 and the setlist as well. Everyone sounds great. I think those who say The Who should of quit when they lost Moon are kinda' full of crap. I've been looking at the youtube material and have some live stuff from that time on vinyl. Plus i've heard bootlegs before and have seen clips from 30 Years Of Maximum R&B Live. I'm knocked out by it. Some of their best performnces ever.

Lunch 08-19-2006 04:02 PM

Yea, I agree with you. Dave Marsh makes particular note of that in his biography, which I know you've read. Kenney Jones gets scrutinized a lot when really his performance is quite good. The band as a whole plays great during this time period, but it's tough for many to get passed Moon's death.

JohnXDoesn't 08-19-2006 06:29 PM

yeah, i think Marsh hits it right on the head. sure Moon was an unpredictable element and a great drummer, but Jones shows himself to be a powerful drummer following in his footsteps. i watch those clips and see how he has to give all that he has got, huffing and puffing and spent by the end of one song. and then doing it again. he's not as nimble as Moon. he's a more straight up and straight forward drummer. but that suited the Who at the time, as i think townshend and daltrey wanted a more straight forward and focused performance. and it makes me wonder what keith must of had in him all those years watching kenny with his worked out arms and beefy upper body struggle to keep pace (as well as he does) while Moon with his small stature used to make it look effortless. kenny sort of looks like an out of shape Moon behind the skins. as conditioned as he was, it was still a struggle.

but anyway, yeah. Pete just seems energized, Roger strong, John thunderous, Kenny powerful, and the entire band is just incredibly loose and focused. i know the turmoil in the band at the time, but regardless they just sound great. 100%.

Street_Fighting_Man 08-19-2006 07:16 PM

I don't think it was a peak time for the band, but it definitely wasn't a bad time live like some people think. I think the biggest difference is the chemistry between the instrumentalists. I mean, Kenny Jones is good, but just look at how Moon, Entwistle, and Townshend gelled together, especially during improvised instrumentals. I don't think anybody could recreate that kind of thing that they had around '69-'70, but they were always great live.

fwqhgads ² 08-20-2006 12:56 AM

heh guys tomorrow I'll try to get around to upload that bootleg.

>_>

<_<

JohnXDoesn't 08-20-2006 12:08 PM

that sounds great, jeff. it's not here yet so i'm not holding my breath. but it's good you have it on your mind. i also want to address Street_Fighting_Man's post but haven't the time this moment. will be back later to do so..

Seafroggys 08-20-2006 01:19 PM

I've enver liked Jones style of drumming. he had this big *** drumset, but never used it. I saw him do a two bar fill that was just 16th notes on the snare, no accents or nothing, just straight 16th notes on the snare for two bars. I thought that was really lame.

fwqhgads ² 08-20-2006 03:35 PM

Uploading...

It's in 3 parts. For those of you who want it, leave your email here, and I'll send it to you. I'll send it to the Daily Upload too. ^_^
