I would be utterly shocked if Tool weren't fans of Pink Floyd.
I actually see Tool as the new generation Pink Floyd. Both bands ahve alot in common.

Dr. Jake Destructo 01-31-2006 08:13 PM

There was a mass rumor that Tool covered Comfortably Numb, but it was a fallacy, so I cried. :upset: We all should know that Tool are fans of PF because an excerpt of the intro from Shine on you Crazy Diamond is played by Adam during The Grudge.

Otherside 01-31-2006 08:13 PM

Nah Radiohead is more of a neo-Pink Floyd than Tool.

Both in terms of sound and record sales

Dr. Jake Destructo 01-31-2006 08:23 PM

I'd say that Porcupine Tree sounds the most like Pink Floyd. Most PF is easy to listen to, as is PT, and both bands have a large range of song structures. They both can/could write great pop songs to please the masses, but they can also bust out with an 15 minute+ soundscape of pure joy and sex appeal. :p Granted, PT will never have the popularity that Floyd did, but still, they sound a lot alike to me.

Kage 01-31-2006 08:52 PM

Aside from a couple instances, I don't think Pink Floyd and Porcupine Tree sound anything alike.

Jude 01-31-2006 09:03 PM
Aside from a couple instances, I don't think Pink Floyd and Porcupine Tree sound anything alike.
Agreed, although old PT sounded a lot more like Floyd.

However aside from not sounding alike, all the features he mentioned are true.

Plus the fact that Maynard has stated he wants Tool to be remembered and revered the way Floyd is.

Adam also plays Rush's A Passage To Bankok for an opening riff.
I actually see Tool as the new generation Pink Floyd. Both bands ahve alot in common.
I see Tool as an evolution of the style and atitude of Pink Floyd and musically of Rush and prolly zeppelin.

Kage 01-31-2006 09:09 PM

Right, I forgot to mention that I agreed with all the points he made aside from the sound comparisons.
Adam also plays Rush's A Passage To Bankok for an opening riff.
Really? What song?

Trintar_VIII 01-31-2006 09:18 PM
Really? What song?
They do it just before Cold and Ugly, I believe...it was in that Oklahoma video going around a while ago.

Otherside 01-31-2006 09:42 PM

Well Tool still have quite a ways to go to achieve Pink Floyd-status. Radiohead is pretty much already there though.

Rounder 01-31-2006 09:52 PM

Me and Matter saw Tool 4 times in FL during the Lateralus tour and Adam played it everytime right before Sober. (the first song of the show.)

That would be awsome. If only I had money, I'd book a flight and buy tickets for that show right now!

Esoteric_Creator 02-01-2006 03:39 PM

Tool always struck me as Led Zeppelin evolved..
They both just hold the same kind of vibe for me.. *shrugs*

New news on toolband.com:
01 Feb 06

TOOL RECORD MASTERED
Salma stopped dancing on January 29th. The next morning the members of the band flew to Portland, Maine to have the record mastered by Bob Ludwig. This was done on January 31, no doubt followed by a lobster dinner.

What stage of an album does mastering come in..?

All of you US fans be alert. If the European release date is a week after the US one, expect either a paypal transaction for an import, or a mad amount of uploading

misunderstood 02-01-2006 05:17 PM

Looks like they're also headlining the Rock AM Ring and Rock IM Festivals in Germany, I think it is. They're just headlining festivals all over the place!

Tyr 02-01-2006 05:22 PM

No official release yet, just in mid-late spring sometime.

Txus 02-01-2006 07:48 PM

OMG, the album is finally done......Great :D

Dried Muffin Remnants 02-01-2006 07:49 PM

From everywhere I've heard, it'll be early Spring. So unless there are some new obstacles, it should be out by April.

Spiritofmosa 02-01-2006 07:52 PM

omg i cant waitttttttttttttttttttttt

Dr. Jake Destructo 02-01-2006 08:18 PM

Album is done. Time to put it in Salma's cheeks.

/tangos with analogy

Huber 02-01-2006 08:22 PM

I can't wait for the tour.

Kage 02-01-2006 08:25 PM

I can't even believe that it's done. It's like being in a war and being told it's over. You've become accustomed to it, and you never actually thought it would end.

Dr. Jake Destructo 02-01-2006 08:31 PM

Right, and it's like coming home to Salma, and just wanting to put it in her cheeks, right? Right?

*cough* Yeah, I can't wait either.
