Ya, hehe. I just wanted to present my theory to everyone else. I find there are few people I can trust to reccomend good music, everyone and their mother is reccomending these gods that will blow your mind. And yet it has nothing special about it at all. If you can make a 3 minute song that flows (easiest thing in the world, honestly, try it, it's beyond easy, really, pick a few white keys on your piano, play them in 4/4 time, you win) people will love it, they will become completely consumed by it. Mind you they'll move on to a new fad rather quickly.

I hate it.

CCR consistently put out enjoyable music, how could you not like them?

Every time I turn on my metronome I think of down on the corner and start singing it.

I heard the main idea was based off of Anderson's believe that organized religion ruins man's connection with God.

I wrote a small paper on Aqualung, but really only focused on "My God", "Hymn 43",and "Wind Up". I think those are the most obvious anti-religion messages, I don't really know much about the rest of the album.

Yea that is a big part of it. There are lines that man destroyed God, and that terrible people use God's name in vain and things like that. In "Wind Up" the main character finds his God and taunts the Christian Church by saying "he's not the kind of God you have to wind up on Sundays".

That sounds like a fairly good descripition. If you listen to the album alot of it is critical of religion, but the album is not meant to criticize religion itself. I think more accurately as badmoon put it it's a criticism of how religion has been organized, and similar themes could be used for the way many things have been organized, sort of an indoctrination type thing more than focusing on actually reaching the supposed, and quite frankly much better goal.

That's one of my favourites songs and lines because I've always felt this way. Any god who should rightfully be called god doesn't want you to go and "wind him up" on sundays, he would want you to live a respectable life, which does not necessarily require church.

the essential greatest hits series is excellent. theyre all double discs so they get some of the lesser known songs as well. i own the srv one, bob dylan, janis joplin and maybe some others. haha i cant recall them all at the moment.

It's not anti-religious so much as it is anti-organization though, I think it's important to distinguish.

It is great. When I picked apart the lyrics I found that I really agreed with his most of his points.

Another thing is the hypocrisy in Church(or just religion). Like the "bloody Church of England".

The Dylan one (or any Dylan Greatest Hits album) is the only way to get "Positively 4th Street", because as far as I can tell it's not on any of his studio albums.
