I stand corrected.
Well where do you live?
Windsor? Dude if you closer to Detroit why not go their? Really the Molson Ampitheatre is awful when theres a huge event going on.
I live in Chatham, 40 mins from Windsor. It'll be my first major concert event, so I had no idea what venue would be better prior to buying tickets. |
I think that Mikael has said that he doesn't like those songs anymore.
It was more a matter of being tired of the whole twin guitar melodic death metal sound. If you sift through opeth.com, you can tell that he's definitely very proud of both records, he just didn't want to make an entire career out of that style of music. |
Seeing Opeth tomorrow.
:D |
I like Opeth.
they played under a weeping moon when I saw em earlier this year
I'd love to see them play that. The long, ambient section is soooo incredibly dark and evil!!! \m/ |
That song was irritating as all hell. Feedback live = not good for long periods...
Although it was quite cool to see them play some old **** live. |

Although it was quite cool to see them play some old **** live.
Well if they did lots of feedback then I could understand it being bad, but if they played it straight from the record I would think that it would be one of the highlights of the night. Do they play Master's Apprentices often, or what that something that they just did for the DVD? |
As far as I know, they don't play it. Which is a crying shame. I'd rather have that over Deliverance...
|

I think I'd rather have them take out The Grand Conjuration, as Deliverance and Master's Apprentices are both in my top 10 favorite Opeth songs. I also wish they'd start using To Bid You Farewell as their encore. I would cry my eyes out if they did that. No kidding. |

To Bid You Farewell would be awesome live.
Yknow, I actually thought TGC was one of the best songs they did live. It's a completely different experience. It's so much more freaking evil. |

I would shit myself if that happened :p |

I disagree 100%. They played Under the Weeping Moon the last time I saw them (New Orleans, '06). The long "feedback" section was actually about eleventy billion times cooler than the album version. The growls were so much more powerful than they are on the album, and the live tone always sounds amazing! I was totally stoked, too, as that was my favorite song off of Orchid at the time (and it was completely unexpected). I don't know what to expect this time around, but I will let you guys some time after the Atlanta gig October 5th! :thumb:

To Bid You Farewell live.... man... that would be utterly incredible. wow
|
Feedback is pleasant, to me.
I want to see Opeth live someday. |
The Moor live...I would basically shart myself.
|
Bleak live would be pretty awesome as well.
|
Yeah I hope they play Bleak. And BWP.
Well, Gigantour was today. Although the Congress theater (Chicago) is really cool looking, to be honest I wasn't really impressed with the acoustics/sound. The first couple of bands sounded like noise, basically...not really the fault of the bands, although I did notice that when I could hear things clearly, they still didn't sound very good. Into Eternity were pretty good, although they don't seem to have quite found themselves yet...they were kinda missing the sort of charisma one would hope to see in a live band. Overkill were...well...pretty cheesy and kinda annoying. We get it. You're old. Congratulations! :thumb: Music wasn't bad, but singer was a douche.
Arch Enemy was probably the best set of the night, although the sound was still somewhat pooey and it was at times hard to hear Angela. Still a pretty good show, though. Opeth was good, but subpar by Opeth standards. This was my 3rd time seeing them, and they were not at their best IMO. Mikael's growls were sounding a little thin - kinda like on that one live video someone posted recently from Rock AM. Axe is getting better, especially during the metal parts, but the softer songs are still really suffering. He absolutely butchered Windowpane, and I almost found it difficult to listen to one of my favorite Opeth songs. When Mikael said "we have some songs that are metal, and some songs that are NOT metal," I couldn't help but think to myself: "TELL THAT TO AXENROT!!" It was too slow, and it felt like he was dragging it down, making the song feel depressing and just...not right. Deliverance was pretty good, but the band kinda fell apart during the outro. You could tell that Axe was way off several times, and the lead line (Mikael, I believe) was out of synch with the rhythm section at one point as well. Honestly, I think Opeth needs to chill the **** out for a little while and maybe record another album or something. I know that I said earlier in the thread that I'd rather they tour, but...not if it means that their performance is going to suffer for it.
I was there too. Where were you? The next night I did Sahg/1349/Celtic Frost at the Vic, which was a much better show than Gigantour. |
To Bid You Farewell live.... man... that would be utterly incredible. wow
Everyone knows it's true, so why doesn't the band freakin' play it already! It's easily the best song on Morningrise. And I read that long report on the Chicago show...that's rather sad. I do agree that they need to put out a new album soon though, they've been touring practically non stop and Axenrot apparently needs to learn his parts. *crys* I want Lopez back. :upset: |
They played Bleak when I saw them in November '05...they also played Under The Weeping Moon in the same set. I don't think I had Orchid back then unfortunately.
Would they ever do TBYF live? Like... I can't imagine that they'd use clean electrics...and if they used acoustics, who would play the heavy part? I realise that they always play songs with electrics and play the clean/"Acoustic" parts with them, but the acoustic is far more prominent on TBYF. Wouldn't sound good. |
Does anyone else agree that the end of Harlequin Forest is a little too similar to the end of Deliverance?
|
I don't find it to be similar in anything other than mindset, and it was pretty obviously written with that kind of rhythmic type of part in mind.
|

*crys* I want Lopez back. :upset:
He plays the parts but he's so rigid and he can't do the great snare stuff as well as Lopez. I'm kind of skeptical about new material from Opeth. I don't want to notice the change of a drummer when I hear it. |
Man, if Axengay isn't as dynamic and is more rigid than Martin was, we're in trouble.
|
Are you implying that Martin Lopez is a bad drummer?
|
 Reading back on that, I can see how you got that I was connotating that. No, no. That was terrible wording.
Let's just say, a big part of Opeth's success was the fact that Lopez was very dynamic and not rigid. So if this new drummer is not dynamic and is rigid, we're in trouble. |
I think more metal drummers need to learn a thing or two from Lopez.
