That riff is so out of place :p

Permanent Solution 07-13-2006 04:03 PM

Bah, I like it.

But truthfully I wrote parts to like 4 songs yesterday so I'm a bit worn too :-\

A few of my riffs are sick though :D Can't wait to get recordings.

I've written few things I'm quite proud of, but no other full songs.

Wayyy too much effort to tab out everything. Wait for final recordings.

We have 2 mediocre recordings but they still need mastering before we put them out. We have like...5 full ones plus a few half done ones...but then again most our songs are in the 5-8 minute range so it's basically a CD.

That your Noise Ratchet clone band?

My band hasn't met in like a week. Too long. Although we've been much more random-fun-breakdowns-and-then-play-risk rather than music writing.

No, this is a CO band. You should like it. Pop-Punk with Hardcore/Metal influence.

Ew. Our goal is to put out a CD before I have to go back to school. Yay for writing a CD in 3 months (hopefully).

Yeah, but we're better.

Especially ever since I got my friends into dissonance.
Yeah, but we're better.

I cant argue that. I said earlier today, my bassist doesnt actually know how to play bass. Once he gets his own and just messes around a little bit with it, hell find out how to make things that sound good by himself.

RISK is still great though. The only board game I bother with anymore.

Fun ****ing riff to play.

Fast, thought. About 240 bpm.

We don't even have a bassist :p

Althought our drummer is a very good bassist.

And my band is even better than yours :p

Mainly because we have a sick drummer, my brother on bass (one of the best bassists I know or have heard), and of course I'm guitaring. Then we have like an all-state choir kid singing and another kid screaming. Yay.

cobert 07-13-2006 04:27 PM

THIS JUST IN: All riffs that are fun to play sound corny as hell.

Only one guitarist?

That's the most castrating thing ever. It's so hard to sound full with one guitar.

Unless you have a distorted, really good bassist.

Or are breakdowns.

Which are never corny.

Depends on the style of music. If you want to have all kinds of pretty melodies, one guitar is hard, unless your bassist doesnt mind playing high up on the neck and pretending he has a guitar.

Still, 2 guitarist is probably better.

Its very easy to make 'breakdowns' sound corny.

B 07-13-2006 04:32 PM

I could do with one guy and an acoustic.

I could make a sick post-hardcore acoustic band.

3 is even better. Triple harmonization for the win.

But we rarely do that.

edit: post hardcore sucks. except a few bands. same with acoustic.

So basically, unless you're amazing, it'll suck. Like, real amazing.

BridgeToSolace 07-13-2006 04:32 PM
No, both vocalists play also. 3 guitars :p
Oooh. I wish I had another guitarist. Opens up so many doors.

I'd have one guy do rythem, another do octave chords, and another doing lead riff. Usually.

What style is okay with only one guitar?

On a second note, I'd rather have one guitar than two guitars that play the same thing. That's the worst ever. A giant ****ing waste.

Yes.

Gay. Octave chords are a waste. Two contrasting rhythms with lead ftw.

Flamenco. :p

Yes.

Me and my drummer seem to be musically linked. We jam so well. He seems to be able to sense when I'm going from a riff to a breakdown even when we're just making **** up.

It's awesome.

Simple hardcore can be pulled off with one guitar.

Yeah man, its great when you and your drummer are tight, its the same with me. Like, he knows when youre about to switch to a different riff, or he can pick up easily on rhythms you play.

Post-hardcore doesnt suck. Its just that a lot of really bad bands that arent post-hardcore get pushed into the genre (mostly bad popcore)...Its like saying emo is awful because hawthorne heights is bad (YEAH I KNOW YOU HATE EMO VINCE GREAT ITS JUST AN EXAMPLE).

We've been best friends since second great. Hell, he started playing music because in 6th grade I said "i play gitar now u play base we mayk band!"

And then for some reason a few months ago he became my bands drummer and picked it up extremely quickly.

I don't really know what that has to do with being intuned musically with one another, though. Weird.

I really think the core to a lot of powerful music is the drums (or lack thereof).

If the two guitars are playing completely different riffs, then that's really cool.

But if they're playing the same same notes just with different rhythms then that's completely phaggy.

Dinner bye. Really nice seeing you, Vince. Come back more during college.

That's not the point asshole. It can still be done with one guitar.

Permanent Solution 07-13-2006 04:48 PM

it's usually like harmonized notes but different rhythms, but sometimes totally different riffs.

basically obsurdly technical.

Excursions 07-13-2006 04:50 PM

I'm recording sparsely instrumented Honky Tonk/Country/Blues right now, similar to William Elliott Whitmore etc. It's just me singing and playing acoustic bass, maybe some light drumming and some power chords to be add, but right now just bass.

Country > Hardcore
