ironmanx 09-21-2006 06:32 PM

I d/led them all, and then I bought each one. I got 2 copies of Damnnation, one was a gift. Gonna get the Ghost Reveries reissue as well.

Stoo 09-21-2006 06:33 PM

I can't be arsed buying the reissue... Is the DVD all it has?

If it is I'm sure someone will post it on net.
Agreed. I think she was best on Wages of Sin era stuff, as she sounds too manly on Doomsday Machine.
Agreed. There are waaay too many vocal tracks on DM. It's cool that they can somewhat pull it off live, though (one of the guitarists does the low growls under Angela's) Some of the transitions on that record feel kinda awkward, too. I actually liked Anthems of Rebellion alot, though.

Eliminator 09-21-2006 09:20 PM

Damnation has the best Opeth art.

Fact.

Jude 09-21-2006 09:22 PM

I prefer Still Life myself and the Morningrise front cover is my favorite.

But that haunted house in D&D is really sweet. It's a real house in California...I found some picture someone took online that's basically the same picture as the Deliverance cover but, obviously, without the creepy figure standing by the window.

Kage 09-21-2006 09:23 PM

I've been to that very house.

Yeah same, Morningirse and Still Life are my favorites in that order.

And I remember those pictures... see if you can dig up that link!

Stormrider 09-21-2006 09:30 PM

The Morningrise album cover is pretty nice. Reminds me of a BM album cover if you know what I mean...

A few covers as well.

Maybe not worth it.

Although Opeth recording is generally fun. It could've been Wilson's wit, though.

It's very good, but I like the cover to blackwater park the best. It looks creepy.;)

Nostalgia 09-22-2006 02:25 PM

I'd say I like BWP's cover the best.
k i guess nobody wants free opeth then?
Sure, I'll take some free Opeth.

The cover for Ghost Reveries is pretty cool too.

i woulda gone, but

1. This is the overpacked, "Lets all go to a show and get rained on!" Molson Ampitheatre

2. Opeth is the only band I find worth seeing there.

Megadeth did put on an amazing show, and I found Opeth's setlist to be too short.

Deliverance live was badass though.

Yeah, we have a decent metal crowd here. I didn't have that great of a time last night though, I came too late for Into Eternity and the Eagles Ballroom has crappy sound.

Yeah I missed Into Eternity as well. I haven't heard of them until recently.

That's true. The Rave > Eagle's Ballroom. That's why I'm glad I saw Opeth and Dark Tranquillity on the small stage when they came in March.

lightningmetal666 09-22-2006 04:47 PM

I never realized how beautiful the clean singing on Reverie/Harlequin Forest is.

NP: Reverie/Harlequin Forest

TojesDolan 09-22-2006 08:50 PM

Most Harlequin Forest is clean singing, please clarify.

132WalrusesInMexico 09-22-2006 09:36 PM

Harlequin Forest = Favorite Opeth song ever.

Anglachel 09-22-2006 09:37 PM

Harlequin Forest is alright. Not my favourite.

Txus 09-22-2006 09:38 PM

It's one of the few songs I listen from GR.

Spoonful of Shame 09-22-2006 09:38 PM

Yeah it is a great song. The only song I enjoy more off of Ghost Reveries is Ghost of Perdition.

I actually enjoy some off of Ghost Reveries. Hours of Wealth is such a great song.

Isolation years is also great.

132WalrusesInMexico 09-22-2006 10:05 PM

My favorite Opeth album is Ghost Reveries, but I'm kind of a n00b at Opeth. It seems like a lot of people I've talked to like that album the least.

Det_Nosnip 09-22-2006 10:23 PM

Well, Gigantour was today. Although the Congress theater (Chicago) is really cool looking, to be honest I wasn't really impressed with the acoustics/sound. The first couple of bands sounded like noise, basically...not really the fault of the bands, although I did notice that when I could hear things clearly, they still didn't sound very good. Into Eternity were pretty good, although they don't seem to have quite found themselves yet...they were kinda missing the sort of charisma one would hope to see in a live band. Overkill were...well...pretty cheesy and kinda annoying. We get it. You're old. Congratulations! :thumb: Music wasn't bad, but singer was a douche.

Arch Enemy was probably the best set of the night, although the sound was still somewhat pooey and it was at times hard to hear Angela. Still a pretty good show, though.

Opeth was good, but subpar by Opeth standards. This was my 3rd time seeing them, and they were not at their best IMO. Mikael's growls were sounding a little thin - kinda like on that one live video someone posted recently from Rock AM. Axe is getting better, especially during the metal parts, but the softer songs are still really suffering. He absolutely butchered Windowpane, and I almost found it difficult to listen to one of my favorite Opeth songs. When Mikael said "we have some songs that are metal, and some songs that are NOT metal," I couldn't help but think to myself: "TELL THAT TO AXENROT!!" It was too slow, and it felt like he was dragging it down, making the song feel depressing and just...not right.

Deliverance was pretty good, but the band kinda fell apart during the outro. You could tell that Axe was way off several times, and the lead line (Mikael, I believe) was out of synch with the rhythm section at one point as well.

Honestly, I think Opeth needs to chill the **** out for a little while and maybe record another album or something. I know that I said earlier in the thread that I'd rather they tour, but...not if it means that their performance is going to suffer for it.

Spoonful of Shame 09-22-2006 10:28 PM

Yeah they have been touring for too long without a break. They need to hit up the studio.
