Cipher Hour 02-01-2005 05:32 PM
I'm not in a band right now, but I am a musician.
Heh, I wish it was as easy to find musicians in my area as it is to find people here. For about 3 months my band searched for a decent rhythm guitarist who was into the music we were playing and couldn't find anybody.

VeedBok 02-01-2005 05:32 PM

im in a band with Animosity_62 called VeedBok
i play guitar

Silenius 02-01-2005 05:33 PM

I have a band but we can't play live since I do guitar and bass and vocals. The only other member is my friend who plays drums.

Cipher Hour 02-01-2005 05:35 PM
I'm the only one who's even thought about writing songs yet, but that's alright.
Oh man, I totally know where you're coming from. It's always an uphill battle trying to get the guys in my band to write anything. I have to organize everything, I have to write more then 2/3 of everything, I have to constantly kick their asses and motivate them, and I'm the only one that ever has any ideas or visions of how things should sound/go. I also write all the lyrics, and set up most of the gigs. It's tough being the only one who's passionate about the music.

Silenius 02-01-2005 05:39 PM

I have to write everything too, even drum parts sometimes, I actually prefer it.

Yeah, but you gotta admit it gets too much sometimes.

For me, a good singer always was the hardest to find.

In my Funk band, the only thing we right is Lyrics, as right now it's just me and a bass player.

Pretty much all of our work is made by us improvising, and when we come up with somethin good we use it

xxxRoCkJuNkiExxx 02-01-2005 05:43 PM

It's really tough to find other musicians around here, seeing as this town is tiny. My entire high school has about 250 students. I also suspect that our bassist is a poser (she was talking about Dimebag's death and she kept calling him Diamondbag, now I don't know much about him, but I'm pretty sure he was either called Dimebag Darrell or Diamond Darrell, plus there have been other times when she makes me wonder).

Eitri Is Berserk 02-01-2005 05:43 PM

I leave this thread for an hour and it grows 3 pages..

EDIT: 4 pages! :amaze:

Silenius 02-01-2005 05:43 PM

He used to be called Diamond a long time ago.

Heh, the band I was in before Cipher Hour tried to use that method. I'd write lyrics and a melody and I'd sing it for them, and they'd just give me a blank stare because they had no idea how to write anything to accompany it.

^Dream~Theater^ 02-01-2005 05:47 PM

Back in the good ol glam days.

xxxRoCkJuNkiExxx 02-01-2005 05:47 PM

But was he ever called Diamondbag? Also, she said she is a huge fan of Pink Floyd, but when I played Money when she was here, she asked who the song was by.

Anyways, what kind of places do you people in bands perform at?

CaptainWaits 02-01-2005 05:48 PM

Yeh, it's a hard method to use,for us, I'll just start playin a solid groove, and my bass player will fill it in by playin a sweet slap line, or just a smooth bass line. And it works great.

CaptainWaits 02-01-2005 05:51 PM
But was he ever called Diamondbag?
No, Just Diamond then Dimebag
Anyways, what kind of places do you people in bands perform at?
Locally, we play in this place called "The Station", which is mainly used as an arts performance center. We have about a gig a month there, maybe every second month. And we alos play sometimes at our school in some organized concerts and such.

Diamondbag? Never heard that one. And a bassist not recognising "Money" by Pink Floyd? That intro is one of the most famous basslines ever!

CaptainWaits 02-01-2005 05:55 PM

Here it is....My 1500 post :D

Now I shall leave for a while, and hopefully come back to 4 stars

EDIT: Never mind, the stars are already there

That's what I thought (about Dimebag).

If anyone ever goes on the road and comes to northwestern Indiana, play at Java Jim's in Valparaiso. That's where I'm planning to play when we actually learn some songs.

Community centers, out-of-the-way-bars-that-are-legally-restaurants, a talent show here and there, a local battle of bands held last year, basically anywhere people will have us. Beggars can't be choosers. Even if you have to open up for a band who plays really bad music.

Heh, it'd be cool to meet some of you guys in person.

I would really like a different bassist, but I only know three bassists (one is in two bands, one I don't know about, and the one we have).
Heh, it'd be cool to meet some of you guys in person.
Yeah, that would be pretty cool.

Ha ha, there is nothing wrong with showing up a headlining act. :D

Silenius 02-01-2005 06:04 PM

Heh, it's still embarrassing that despite that, we still never get to be the headlining act.

Cipher Hour 02-01-2005 06:05 PM
What kind of music do all you guys play?
As I said before, blues hard rock.
Heh, it's still embarrassing that despite that, we still never get to be the headlining act.
But if you are better, than YOU are the stars of the show. You will headline eventually.

xxxRoCkJuNkiExxx 02-01-2005 06:08 PM

I'd like to play blues rock and psychadelic rock, when we really get going.

Silenius 02-01-2005 06:10 PM

/me plays street punk and metal

BludgeonySteve 02-01-2005 06:10 PM
As I said before, blues hard rock.
Yay, like Kenny Wayne Sheperd. That's what I want to play in a band (once I get a band).
