Now that I see it, it seems like I called it shitcore or something.
No but really, what I meant was that they hadn't tried a hardcore-kinda-based song until that point, until The Grand Conjuration, because it is repetitive, mostly because it's just supposed to be hard. It's good but I don't necessarily love it.
Oh, haha, I thought you did say shitcore. :p I thought you might be turning black metal elitist on me or something.. in any case I really like it. I love the Mellotron too. |
The best thing about Ghost Reveries is definitely the addition of mellotron.
Uh, it was added since Damnation. |

I've been trying to write some of my own stuff lately, but everything keeps sounding like opeth. WTF?
Here's a little taste of what I've been writing: e:---------------------------|----|-------------- b:---------------------------|----|-------------- g:----------------------4----|----|-------------- d:-.-.--.----------------x----|----|-------------- a:-0-0-0--0-1p0-2(ph)--2--3-|--6-|-------------- d:-0-0-0--0-1p0-----------3-|--6-|-6(ph)~------------- Sounds kinda like Ghost of Perdition Huh? The clean stuff sounds really good too, but don't have time to tab it. |
666!!
Got Deliverance today. It's pretty amazing. |

It actually is. It's just hard to make them sound really good. |
Just downloaded the rock Am Ring 2006 Opeth DVD (You can find it on some torrent sites). It has TGC and Closure extended live version. Have to say the extended version of Closure is awesome.

Is the extended one on that DVD the same one as the extended version on the Lamentations DVD? |
No, it's got pimpin keyboard solos in it.
I can't say I've seen the video, but if it's anything like they did live, Per completely owns that song. |

No shame in that. |

Don't get me wrong, I love what he added to the band's sound in Ghost Reveries, but I just wish he'd get a little more exposure than he normally does. I think it's funny on the Lamentations DVD when he just sort of shows up, sings some harmony vocals or plays a little keyboards, and then just walks off stage. |
They sort of acknowledged him though...
"This is Per. He played keyboards." |
They sort of acknowledged him though...
"This is Per. He played keyboards."
Yeah right at the very end of the show. That was before he was in the band, though. |
Well whatever people come in people come out wtf.
Anyway, he added ambience but still needs to blend in better. |
Live he was a headbanging beast though.

Headbanging keyboard players...just doesn't look as cool as a guitarist or bassist headbanging. It just looks awkward. |

Unless you have an achordion, maybe. |
I thought he looked like a mad wizard headbanging at the keyboard. That's cool in my book.

Not if you're the Indian keyboardist for Strapping Young Lad. That dude was crazy... |
Underoath's keyboardist is really entertaining on stage.
|
Per has mastered the art of headbanging.
Both times I saw Opeth live, Per did things to pre-GR songs that I didn't like. I remember at the Chronology show he went nuts during The Leper Affinity, and at the other show he did so on When. I don't like it. |
I think Per's cool he looks like a pretty laid back cool guy but can also be crazy on stage.

Let's keep all things about Underoath out of this thread. :thumb: |
Anyone have any word on the Atlanta show on Octoboer 5th? Opeth and Lamb of God are "co-headlining"....I was just wondering if anyone knew who was playing last. Anyone going?
|
Per should be quiet in the pre-Deliverance/Damnation parts, period. Unless there's a necessity to "emulate" the multilayered songs, say Bleak, for filling out stuff sakes.
But yeah Boo Per trying to fit in. >=[ |
Bleak is pwns
