I've been told that I have a very flat, almost midwestern accent. Upper Missouri or lower Illinois. The voice Tom Wolfe used to describe the prototypical calm pilot speaking over the intercom. Described as the typical calm voice typifying what you would think of a military officer who is in control and knows it (without being overbearing) as having.

The perfect voice for a president.
tl;dr

adb 11-17-2009 11:07 PM

what kind of stuff do you like paul

TimJim 11-17-2009 11:07 PM
Sorry. It's just one of those things that often you see (even in fairly reputable resources) for English pronunciation that really grates on me since the y is really reserved for the short i sound.

'Ja tebja ljublju.' instead of 'Ya tebya lyubyu.'

It makes it easier to figure out spelling too since the j essentially stands for the softened vowels and the i kratkoje. The y, then stands for the jery.
i should have thought about it since i kind of already knew that from the bit of Russian that i already know, and the fact that most languages outside of English use j for the "yah" sound

for instance: norwegian, Finnish, German, Ukranian (basically Russian amirite?), slavic/germanic languages in general
