Aren't they like, grindcore or something close to it?

Moses 01-09-2006 09:06 PM
Aren't they like, grindcore or something close to it?
Just grind, but yeah, good stuff.

Dr. Jake Destructo 01-09-2006 09:07 PM

Would you mind sending some to spiralout7@gmail.com, please? I'd like to hear them, since you seem so giddy about them all the time. Either that, or you could just message them to my myspace, since I frequent that site more than my email.

And yes, I beleive they're gXc. :p

Darkness 01-09-2006 09:08 PM

I'd like to hear a song as well, somebodysomeone509@hotmail.com

Moses 01-09-2006 09:09 PM

I'd say check out some Agoraphobic Nosebleed. Crazy ****.

Darkness 01-09-2006 09:10 PM

Another grind band?

And how's that stuff I sent you working out Moses?

Moses 01-09-2006 09:13 PM

Yeah another grind band.

I downloaded both EOR and In Memory today and I'm burning it tomorrow. Thanks alot for that. And with the Porcupine Tree I should have told you I already have Deadwing and LS. I used to have In Absentia but it got erased off of my hard drive.

Damn! you should have told me that!

I'll have to get you something else then.

TemperamentalGoat 01-09-2006 09:55 PM
Please explain this and then name me one band who puts more thought or care into all facets of their art than Tool.
I didn't say they don't put thought or care into their art. "Most thoughtful" or "most effortful" would definitely spin off some of the most bloated and opinionated responses ever, what's the point? And Sigur Ros would not be one of my answers, I'd suggest Pain of Salvation, Haggard or Ayreon but that's unrelated.

As for all songs sounding the same, I obviously don't mean the entire song is the same (see:Nickelback), but rather they rarely deviate from their sound. Example: Lateralus. Or even Opiate from their debut. Name me the song you know from Tool that sounds the furthest thing from that song discounting jokes like Faaip de Oaid or Message to Harry Manback. Hell, I really don't hear Lateralus or Opiate as profoundly different, as much as "3 Libras" might sound from "The Package" or "Judith". This may be a good thing to many fans, as hey, Tool sticks to the style. But I digress. The fact is, someone was pretty much saying everyone would agree Tool makes better music than APC which...I have to disagree. Tool's still on a "Top Ten Must Listen" for me, I just had to voice that not everyone in the world agrees they sound better than APC.
Good point.

BUT

I would say that Pig Destroyer puts more emotion into their songs than any other band I've ever heard.
More like Anal cun_t. "311 Sucks" sure pulls on my heartstrings.

Darkness 01-09-2006 09:59 PM

Interesting, I feel the other way around. I feel theres a huge change from Opiate to Lateralus. Example? Listen to Sweat, then listen to Reflection. Theres growth and style change there. Or even something from the same record, Disposition and Ticks & Leeches. Where as APC, while I love them, and get a lot out of listening to them, I feel they sound a bit similar throughout. The slower sounds all sound kind of similar to me. But this is all really opinionated, obviously.

TemperamentalGoat 01-09-2006 10:41 PM

Instead of being the resident a.s.s.hole on the Tool thread, I've uploaded the new Puscifer (Maynard's side project) song on the upcoming Underworld Evolution soundtrack. Took a long *** time to find because the soundtrack isn't even released yet.

Disposition/Reflection compared to Jerk Off? You think they sound similiar?

Magicaltroll 01-09-2006 11:23 PM
Aren't they like, grindcore or something close to it?
Yeah.
But they're quite different from every other band I've heard that are plaved in that genre.

I'm convinced that Scott Hull (their guitarist) is a musical genius though.
If you listen to their new stuff, it's really amazing how everything flows, and how complicated some of the riffs are. And those riffs, alongside J.R.'s lyrics, is in my opinion, everything music should be.

An emotional rollercoaster ;)

Tool somehow has an underlying feeling to their songs that make you recognise them no matter how varying the music is. It's like Faith No More in a way.

deadinholywood 01-10-2006 07:58 AM

Ugh the soundtrack for the new movie looks (judging by the bands featured) much worse than the one for the origional. I really liked the work done on the first album it was dark with a good collection of lighter and heavy songs.

Shadius 01-10-2006 08:20 AM

Lateralus sounds absolutely nothing like Opiate, wash your ears out!

There's a progression that you can follow that lets you know it's the same band from album to album, but if you jumped right from the EP to Lateralus, you wouldn't even think it was the same band, there's pretty much no reason to think you would, other than possibily recognising the vocalist, but his style is drastically different on many songs (different on all). The song structure and style is totally different, as well as the tone of the instruments.

*d/ling that song now.

Futuro 01-10-2006 05:37 PM

The song know your enemy. When maynard sang live with RATM Danny carey played floor tom and hit a crash

Syncratic 01-10-2006 05:51 PM

Yo, Tool fans.

Whats crackin' in the thread at the moment?

God that song rules.

Shadius 01-10-2006 08:33 PM

It does. Best RatM song.

I love when Tom Morello shreds, it's kind of unexpected. Also whoelse enjoyed Evil Empire as much as I did? I like that album the best of theirs.

chongi 01-11-2006 03:51 AM

this is stupid, but any of you Myspace people notice that all of the (fake) "tool" band pages disappeared the past couple of days?

Why?

Did Myspace delete them?

I noticed there were like five Amon Amarth profiles... lawl.

jerk off is the "almost perfect" song about what i'm currently going through ..

Better not. Reports a while back said they were heading in a bit more aggressive, meshuggah inflluenced direction. I like APC too, but they better not become the same band. Billy determines where the music goes with APC, and I don't think Maynard is all that involved in the actually music for Tool either.

Evil Empire is a master peice, IMO.

/ex Rage fanboy

Moses 01-11-2006 06:55 PM

I like Maynards vocals more in APC. They showcase his vox in APC alot more than Tool. However as a band Tool is a lot more deep and interesting. I would really love to hear the new album right about now.

Dr. Jake Destructo 01-11-2006 07:45 PM

Moses - I listened to that one track you sent, and I didn't feel it much. I also listened to the others, but I can't remember any specifics. I did listen to them all, though. :)

Has anyone ever heard of Estradasphere? Wickedly brilliant stuff. :-D

Moses 01-11-2006 08:13 PM

Which one was it? Chain Sling or Fandango?

That's almost exactly how I feel. I get a lot more emotion out of Maynard's vocals in APC, but other than that, I think Tool is a lot better.

Dr. Jake Destructo 01-11-2006 10:30 PM

Chain Sling, I believe.

Moses 01-11-2006 10:35 PM

Fandango is a little better representation of their sound and has all the good time sig change/technical stuff. I'll send that and a few others.

Interesting...what kind of music is it?

Moses 01-11-2006 10:52 PM

Kage have you heard Pain of Salvation? I'm a fanboy.

TooL' 01-11-2006 10:59 PM

This is great, I'm new here but Tool is genius, I'm curious, are there any other bands that'd be worth listening to to a die hard tool fan?

Kage 01-11-2006 10:59 PM

Yeah, you sent me some tracks awhile back and I just couldn't get into it. :-\

I'll send Remedy Lane if you'd like.
