Did anyone watch the new episode of stargate? It was kick arse. They destroyed the replicators once and for all.

They're pretty good. I only have Winds of Creation.

Just out of curiosity, how many of you are actually in bands/are musicians? I dunno, I've always wondered that. I've also always wanted to swap band stories with people other then the kids that played a Blink 182 cover at their cousin's birthday party. I guess I'll start with my story.

I'm the lead singer of a blues rock band called Cipher Hour (thus my user name). We're a four-piece band. "The Hour Of None..." is gonna be the name of our first album should we ever get that far. We formed last summer and have been working on writing and recording stuff for a demo since late October (before that we were just playing covers at small gigs).

Funny enough, we didn't start out as a blues rock/hard rock-ish kinda band that we are now. We used to be an all out classic and power metal band. The other guys in the band wanted to do metal because they thought that heavier music was becoming more and more popular and wanted to ride that wave rather then take the risk of playing whatever we felt like. I managed to convince them that our songs would be 10x better if we just wrote whatever came naturally and forgot about trying to make it or what's popular and all that bs.

So that's how we got to where we are now, a sort of blues based hard rock band. Since we started just writing from the gut, its actually been easier (some of the more extreme stuff we did was way too forced). Unfortunately the guys still have the same work ethic they had when we began (which is basically at the pace of snails). But I am pretty excited because the stuff we've been writing since December I'm pretty happy with. I should have a rough recording to show you guys soon too.

Now and again the guys worry about us not making it because our sound is "too old" to ever be popular again. I think that's kinda bollocks. I mean yeah it'd be awesome to make it big even with our sound (which is pretty far from mainstream) but I'd rather not make it and write what I wanna then make it big doing stuff I don't really like.

Anyway, now I'm rambling about nothing. So, what about you fellow musicians?

jpj 02-01-2005 04:52 PM

It's good to see a young blues/hard rock band, seeing as that is my favorite genre. I, however am bandless :(

Arucard 02-01-2005 04:54 PM

Im in a Classic Rock/Metal band.
We play Maiden, Metallica, G'n'r and also more modern stuff like DT and Alter Bridge. Our guitarist also sings, i honestly dont know how he can be so good. Hes been playing 13 years and can honestly do anything.

LordDargon 02-01-2005 04:54 PM

I am in an unholy blackened thrash metal band called Grim Lord of Agonistic Goatslaughter. We are so tr00, we have never played live, and all of our releases are contained in my head to prevent any poseurs from getting a hold of them.

Do you play an instrument? I'd always be willing to replace one of my lazy band members...

munky_magik 02-01-2005 04:55 PM

I am also bandless. Only because there is an extreme lack of good singers + drummers + bassists around here. The people who are good enough are already commited :(

Priceless. That was amazing.
