^^ Mabool?
You know what, I just noticed it was Det Nosnip. Always thought it was Noship. /random
Everyone makes that mistake.....I don't get it. It's just my name (Ted Pinson) backwards. |
^^ Mabool?
Yes, sir. Great album. :) |
Hey guys. I've been getting into Opeth a lot lately and I need some advise, if anyone would be kind enough to give it. I bought Morningrise and well, it completely shook my world. Possibly the best music I have listened to. I went and bought Damnation as well, and its also really cool. Ive downloaded a few songs from BWP and Deliverance, but they were a let down for me. Have Opeth released any further albums in the vein of Damnation? If not, which of their heavier albums is most like Morningrise? Thanks for any help you may give.
|
what BWP and Deliverance did you download?
If you like Morningrise, get Orchid. also try downloading some songs from Still Life...(The Moor, Face of Melinda, Serenity Painted Death, White Cluster. And My Arms, You're Hearse...(April Ethereal, When, Demon Of The Fall, Epilogue, Karma) Damnation is their only totally mellow album. Ghost Reveries is (I think) Really good. So don't listen to these mofos. :) |

Orchid is most like Morningrise and, no, they haven't released anything else that sounds like Damnation. Most here think that Still Life and Blackwater Park are their best albums. EDIT: Beaten |
I've heard the following from BWP and Deliverance:
The Leper Affinity, Dirge For November, Harvest, BWP, A Fair Judgement, Wreath, Deliverance. The main thing that put me off, especially in what I heard from BWP, is Michael's voice. It seems quite different to his voice on Morningrise. Its a shame that Damnation is their only mellow album. I would have loved to hear more. I'll give a few of these songs you mentioned a listen, as well as checking Orchid out. Thanks for the info |
Get Bleak, The Drapery Falls (BWP) and Master's Apprentice (Deliverance).
|
Maybe next album will be softer.
Anyway, I also think that either Ending Credits or Windowpane own at being played, but if you have a lead guitarist, play and sing In My Time of Need. It doesn't recquire to much vocal stress, it's mellow, it's awesome,. |

Most people like the later style more, though.
Its a shame that Damnation is their only mellow album. I enjoy Damnation a lot because I can share it with people I know and then show them the better sidde of Opeth and they can say that it's not the same band.
|
Man, I love Damnation beyond words. The mellow feel is just...unexplainable.

I love that album, but it's often harder for me to listen to than their other albums. I just love their heavier stuff even more. But still, Damnation is ****ing evil. |

That's probably the main reason I listen to it. I don't like it, but I can show people some stuff off it and they are forced to take back the "it all sounds the same" remarks. |
Everyone likes Damnation. Even my ex-girlfriend who listens to bands like Coheed and Cambria and Something Corporate liked it.
Which is probably why they got signed to Roadrunner. As soon as a band makes an accessible album, big labels snatch bands up. |
I watched that guitar lesson thing on youtube with Akerfeldt/Lindgren/Mendez and I have to say it was pretty boring. It was cool to listen to them talk about the song and stuff, but that was about it.
Might listen to Still Life here soon. |
Is Still Life your favorite Opeth, Eliminator?
|
Blackwater Park pretty much.
|
Blackwater Park pretty much.
Most excellent. Best metal album ever. :) |
Not Best Metal Album Ever, but certainly a favorite.
There's better, more consistent metal out there. |
Blackwater Park was probably the album to get me into metal. I'm going to discredit Master of Puppets becuase, yeah.
|
Not Best Metal Album Ever, but certainly a favorite.

I haven't listened to it for a long time. From what I remember, I liked it, but it got sort of uninteresting after awhile.
However, listening to the songs individual is rewarding. |

It's a pretty experimental album, so I can see what you mean. I still like how they made an entire clean album, but I hope that they don't ever do it again. Mikael said that they probably won't though, which is good. |
It's an experiment for Opeth in that it has no heavy parts. Musically it's as far from experimental as Opeth have ever gone, except for maybe TGC. But they didn't make an entire album of TGC's.
|
Opeth need a flute player and a member that only writes lyrics to be truly progressive.
|
Nah that's too 70's.

TGC>Tojes |
TGC>Tojes
Now that I see it, it seems like I called it shitcore or something. No but really, what I meant was that they hadn't tried a hardcore-kinda-based song until that point, until The Grand Conjuration, because it is repetitive, mostly because it's just supposed to be hard. It's good but I don't necessarily love it. |
The best thing about Ghost Reveries is definitely the addition of mellotron.
