I honestly don't really have a preference. If you can scream, then you can scream. If not, then I hate you. At least for metal...
Eh I have school from 7:00 to 1:20 PM everyday, except Wed, Thu and Fri when it's until 2:10. yeah.

Anyhow, I heard pinch harmonics? Cause I'm struggling with them at the moment. :upset:
Yeah they're a bitch, and I can only get them about half of the time.

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-04-2006 05:42 PM

Sword fights? That's pretty sick, man. I'd rather fight with a battle-axe though. Much more V1nt3r for sure.

Kyle- That's a lot of stuff. I usually just get a chicken or steak quesodilla, or a half pound beef+potato burrito.

Then I order a water(Free stuff++) and fill up with Baja.

Well I don't go there as often as you. Three times a month, at most, unless I'm on a Taco Bell binge, which I do occaisonally.

I love homemade Burgers, especially when I grill them.

Moses 04-04-2006 05:48 PM
Hell yeah. I get hte same thing every time I go there. Two chalupas, a taco, steak quesadilla and a Baja Blast.
I hate all Mountain Dew. I love Taco Bell though, 2 quesidillas, a chalupa and a medium Pepsi.

Agreed. My dad knows how to make an awesome burger. It's got the perfect amount of grease on it and the bun is toasted. Yesssss...

No whining there.

I'm hooked on Chalupas, with their fried goodness. Best taco-related invention for sure.

Moses 04-04-2006 05:54 PM

I hate going to fast food resturaunts now though. Since I've been working at Subway for almost 10 months, it's not even food to me anymore.

Don't forget the Nacho Cheese.

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-04-2006 05:55 PM

I'd reccomend you to get a pair of Cheesy Gordita Crunches the next time you go to Taco Bell.

It's basically a hardshell supreme wrapped in a Gordita with cheese gluing the two shells together. It's love.

Moses - Psh, like Subway is even fast food.

Oh, that kind of sucks. I've never worked in the foodservice industry and don't plan to, that being one of the reasons. Also, when I get summer jobs, I try to make them more to my interests, so I don't dread going there every day. For example, I am applying for a job at a local newspaper this summer.

*shrugs* I could describe Trivium, to pick a band at random, as having both Whiny and harsh vocals.
or Wharsh as I call them.
I don't mean the backing vocalist either.

NP-Death-Flesh and the power it holds.

Working in fodd services absolutely sucks, I'm glad I teach guitar now.

That's what turns me off about places like Taco Bell, where it's clearly low quality processed food. Subway isn't as polished as you might think so it makes me wonder about even more about going to McDonalds.

/had a flamethrower burger from DQ today.

Yeah. And I'm forced to work 60 hours a week on a farm. Democracy in action, I tell you. :upset:

Does anyone know of a good site that I could acquire ambientish samples from?

Anything cooked from Dairy Queen frightens me. Anything with icecream, though, I'm down for. Banana Split Blizzard ftw, man.

Deconstruction 04-04-2006 06:00 PM

I had a pancake, a big salad and now a smoothie for dinner/desert.

Hahaha.

I have three things I do...

A high range growl, kinda like Darkest Hour, a mid-range growl (think Dark Tranquillity), and then a high scream kinda like oldschool Avenged Sevenfold (as in like, the really really high pitched parts).

So basically I have a very John Henry/Mikael Stanne-esque voice.

Lord Abortion 04-04-2006 06:07 PM

Ah, I see, well, I have a couple of different clean vocals, one a more power metal one, and one a more deep, rich one (More Blaze Bayley or Low-end Matt Barlow or even Messiah Marcolin)
I have a Really guttural grunting Death vocal(None so vile-esque:p) and a higher raspier one (probably similar to Dani Filth's mid-range rasp, or even Laiho's vocals)

NP-Blind Guardian-The maiden and the minstrel knight

i am the robots 04-04-2006 06:09 PM

Hehe, I used to do clean singing, then I realized I suck :p.

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-04-2006 06:10 PM

I sing a little. I remind myself of a less polished, lower registered version of Gavin Hayes of dredg.

Very basic. :p

i am the robots 04-04-2006 06:12 PM

Heh, my clean vocals remind me of Derek Bonner (Lilitu) but even worse.

Dinner time, cya for a bit.

Moses 04-04-2006 06:15 PM

My vocals are there. Mostly harsh but there's clean during the chorus.

Sleepy 04-04-2006 06:18 PM

I aspire to Mikael Stanne for my harsh vocals...he sounds really good.

However I still need a lot more practice before I reach his level - I'm getting there, though.

Stormrider 04-04-2006 06:21 PM

When I sing, I sound like Gene Adams :p

Maybe not.

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-04-2006 06:22 PM

Writing lyrics is hard. I can't find a topic and stick to it long enough to write more than a verse and/or chorus to it.

Sleepy 04-04-2006 06:25 PM
Writing lyrics is hard. I can't find a topic and stick to it long enough to write more than a verse and/or chorus to it.
Before you try sticking to a topic, try sticking to an emotion - the lyrics that it will result in will be much more abstract (don't know whether that's what you're aiming for or not), but it will help you focus more for later attempts.

Or you could just ask Scoot to help you :p

gmoneyguy 04-04-2006 06:27 PM

I'm trying to find a copy of Dark Forces to Download.

No luck so far.

It took me a good year or two to really master them......once you've got them down though, it's like cheescake (and stuff)...

I wish I could get to that point, but I can never find myself to just sit down and learn them. I get pissed off because I can't figure them out and then quit.

It takes time and perseverance. However, trust me, once you have them down, you won't want to quit. My band gets angry all the time because I won't quit laying squeals into riffs all the time. I do go kindof overboard though....it's so much fun!

Vocally, i have many influences, including Karl from Nile, Nathan from Vehemence, and George from Cannibal Corpse.....but you have to watch how much you try to be like someone else----I always keep inmind to be natural and myself at the same time.

His vocals are like what comes naturally when you're doing harsh vocals right... at least that's how it is for me.

Currently I sound like a crappy halfbreed between Black and Death Metal vocals...but I guess that's what practice is for. Any of you have any techniques I could use to get my screams up to the level of James Malone (Arsis), Mikael Stanne (DT) and Ihsan (Emperor)?

gillygan 04-04-2006 07:10 PM

I'm in a great mood. I just had two fish tacos, quesadilla, chips, and beans from Rubio's. And I got my account name changed :)

Don't do what hurts? I mean I don't know, any true singing technique is universal, there's nothing special for specific vocals (unless you pull a Dani Filth, which is extremely dangerous (inhale screaming) to your throat, lungs, and vocal tissue).

Sleepy 04-04-2006 07:15 PM

None of it hurts...death growls feel fine (if leaving me slightly hoarse afterwards), the Black metal groans feel equally fine and don't even leave me sounding throaty. Even my absolutely horrid attempts to scream in a medium-high/high voice don't hurt. I just get no volume or projection whatsoever and my tone is horrible.

I'm Charming 04-04-2006 07:16 PM

My vocals are sorta a mix between, Trevor(TBDM), Alexi Laiho and I can do deep growls.

When I do I mostly scream/growl from the throat, which obviously isn't good. I'm decent but not great.

I can sing AYDY (title track) very well and a couple other Bodom songs.
I was messing around with The Wretched Spawn and I was singing that decently.

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-04-2006 07:16 PM

Inward singing man. They're only rocking you half the time!

/Jack Black

I think the growl that has moved me the most would be the guy from November's Doom/Subterranean Masquerade. Name, anyone? I think it's the same guy..heh
