two hunters was pretty average but i enjoyed diadem

Moon Flavor 01-10-2009 08:30 PM

Oh yeah two hunters is like a different band it reminds me more of ambient post rock than anything else

Silenius 01-10-2009 08:59 PM

WIITR is average. Very much so.

Moon Flavor 01-10-2009 09:00 PM

nahhh they use melodies that actually sound good and stuff its cool

Stormrider 01-10-2009 09:00 PM

I listened to Diadem once and never went back to it afterwards.

hismajestythepope 01-10-2009 09:02 PM

krallice probably have some of the best melodies in modern bm.

Moon Flavor 01-10-2009 09:03 PM

really i'm surprised someone actually liked that besides me i have a **** taste in music tbh

hismajestythepope 01-10-2009 09:03 PM

i didnt like them on first listen, but they have a really sweet riffing style.

Silenius 01-10-2009 09:15 PM

Black metal is all about melodies.

they have some, i remember one track i think it was track 4 (the one with the solo), had some awesome guitar parts, but the rest of it sounds really awkward

hismajestythepope 01-10-2009 09:20 PM

OH NO IT DOESN'T FOLLOW TRADITIONAL BLACK METAL STANDARDS:rolleyes:

I don't like black metal for the very reason that most bands are more concerned about being mindless sheep following the herd than...oh i dunno....trying to make good music!

I personally like melodies

playguitar 01-10-2009 09:22 PM

My black metal band just got signed! I'm pretty excited about it.

Moon Flavor 01-10-2009 09:24 PM

Maybe it's the opportunity for an artist to explore other ways of making music and not making the same structured drivel that most other genres use. I'm not against melodies, but there are enough other styles of music that have very good melodies. Black Metal should be a way for artists to explore creating atmospheres. Of course all music is melodic in some way even if atonal. But that doesn't mean that the catchy hook of a melody should be the focus of this genre.

Also your pathetic attempt to divert this to a "most BM is just a Burzum or Darkthrone clone" discussion is irrelevant. I'm not arguing about the state of black metal but rather what I look for in a black metal band. It's more about the sound, the feel, the overall blend of noise that makes the genre special. You can't isolate a single element like a melody as the factor that makes the music good, it has to be a combination of everything that works together well.

RiceMonster 01-10-2009 11:43 PM

I think I'll download some Krallice, since everyones going on about them atm

Prepare to be disappointed. It's not bad but not nearly as amazing as I thought it would be from what people were saying.

RiceMonster 01-10-2009 11:46 PM

Yeah, I'm not expecting anything amazing. Mainly downloading it because I want to hear it.
