Who/what is/are Gimps? I've never heard of them.
Like Jess said: Tomas' first band. It was just him on guitar with bass and drums. I've heard people saying that the drummer was Chris from Catch 22, but I'm not sure about that. The styles is pop-punkish and sounds alot different than his later stuff.
Many people want to hear it because it contains an early version of "Supernothing", the song which later appeared on Rules of the Game and Keasbey Nights. The Gimp version is much slower and Has Tomas' Brother Archilles featuring on Violin.
It's decent considering Tomas' very low age when he wrote it, but it doesn't come close to the later material.

streetlight1039 08-18-2006 09:31 PM

thanks for the gimp album henrik. and does anyone know what tomas says at the end of the rap like part of giving up giving in? i cant figure it out for the life of me and i cant find it on the internet.

SkaTastrophe 08-19-2006 02:18 AM

I thought Streetlight was way better live than Catch-22, but that's just one girl's opinion.
thanks for the gimp album henrik.
You're welcome.

I wondered: Does any live bootleg exist with the old Catch 22 line-up?

i_am_zombie_jesus 08-29-2006 12:22 PM

Hey people, I was just wondering which band you guys like the best out of the 3 (Catch 22, Streetlight Manifesto and BOTAR.) And what is your fav song by them.

Me personally I love all 3 but Streetlight have to come out on top and Point/Counterpoint has to be my fav song.

Also....
I sendt the link for Gimps album to your e-mail... Enjoy

BOTAR definetly. I don't know what song is my favorite but definetly BOTAR. I can't wait for the full length. I'm pretty much ****ting myself.

Yeah man isnt it supposed to be called like "99 songs of the Revolution"? And its 99 songs some covers and some originals?

ThisUserIsAPipebomb 08-29-2006 12:31 PM

I knew it was called 99 Songs of Revolutions.

I didn't hear about it actually being 99 songs long. For the average length of a BOTAR song, that would have to be something like ten discs.

Liebensaft 08-29-2006 02:42 PM

Oh wow. If it was actually 99 songs, and they were half of what the songs on A Call to Arms are, it'd probably be the greatest thing that ever happened.

AIRIC 08-29-2006 10:36 PM

I highly doubt it will be 99 songs.

I'm sure it will be fantastic though. Tom never disapoints.

Isn't it in the liner notes of the original Keasbey Nights album?

You DID buy the album right?

(I may be wrong here, I'm at work so I can't check-- I'll check and post it when I get home)

tappenzee 08-30-2006 09:49 AM

A full length BOTAR album is gonna be better than the first time you got a blowjob from the cute brown haired girl that lived downstairs from you in your college dorm Freshman year of college

Henrik 08-30-2006 10:04 AM

I pretty sure I heard an Interview with one of the members, saying that the "99 songs of Revolution" was an old idea that would never be.

I like Streetlight the best, they play live. Botar have to few songs.

tappenzee 08-30-2006 10:05 AM

Okay, here's a technical question. Person who answers correctly wins a red snapper (very tasty!) or what's in the box

How many bars is the instrumental break in "Kristina" (the C22 original)?

Teeb 08-30-2006 10:04 PM

88. Five 16 bar solos, and an 8 bar bass solo.

tappenzee 08-31-2006 09:50 AM
88. Five 16 bar solos, and an 8 bar bass solo.
Thanks mang-- so, red snapper, or what's in the box?

ThisUserIsAPipebomb 08-31-2006 10:16 AM

Box! Box!

Is the new C22 worth checking out? Their other two without Tomas are embarassing.

Catchthe22 08-31-2006 11:10 AM

I say they are. I did a review on their new CD "Permanent Revolution". But if you didnt really even like Alone in the Crowd and Dinosaur Sounds a bit; id say you probably wont like Permanent Revolution. The vocals are better than on Dinosaur Sounds. THe music is more mature than the others but if you didnt even have any positives from the past ones I dont see this album changing your views enough. Still worth a try to check them out though.

ThisUserIsAPipebomb 08-31-2006 11:13 AM

I think they're mediocre but nothing special, so this one might do something for me.

tappenzee 08-31-2006 11:23 AM

Sad that they named their album "Permanent Revolution" since BOTAR has been planning "99 Songs of the Revolution" for years now. That idea's probably scrapped since.

Speaking of which, what do yous think of this line from "Moment of Silence" (the subliminal C22 disses seem abundant in this song, but is this another shot at them?)

"sit tight but the revolution's years away
i'm losing faith and i'm running low on things to say
so i guess i have no choice but to regurgitate
the tired anthem of a loser and a hypocrite"

ThisUserIsAPipebomb 08-31-2006 12:07 PM

Nope. Don't think that's a rip on them.

What other lines are rips on C22?

shangbang 08-31-2006 12:15 PM

The only line that I thought was a rip on C22 was "If you hate me so much, then stop singing my songs" from A Moment of Silence

ThisUserIsAPipebomb 08-31-2006 12:27 PM
The only line that I thought was a rip on C22 was "If you hate me so much, then stop singing my songs" from A Moment of Silence
Yeah that's the one I always think of when I consider them ripping on C22.

tappenzee 08-31-2006 01:26 PM

I dunno, I always think of that entire song (or at least the majority of it) as being at least in part inspired by the beef with the C22 members.

Maybe naming their album Revolution was an intentional attack because Tomas covered the only good album that Catch 22 ever made.

ert90 08-31-2006 08:43 PM

The new C22 is a concept album about revolution so I don't think it was an attack. Do you honestly think they're still that pissed at each other?

AIRIC 08-31-2006 08:44 PM

How does revolution and Tom redoing Keasby Nights have anything to do with eachother? Maybe I just don't get it.

_JR 08-31-2006 10:12 PM

everyone listen to hungarian dance no. 5 by brahms
i would link it but im not at home. i can see where tomas gets his ideas

_JR 08-31-2006 10:20 PM

Liebensaft 08-31-2006 10:44 PM

Permanent Revolution is pretty cool actually. I only gave it one full listen, but it was good. Way different from Keasbey Nights, and their later releases too, but still enjoyable, I think.

im pretty sure they due because when i saw catch-22 some kid yalled "streetlight manifesto i love you" or something liek that and the singer (i dont know his name) flicked him off and looked pretty pissed for a while.

Jas 09-11-2006 07:45 PM

Streetlight tour UK in November. Yay.

Lukeh 09-13-2006 10:35 AM

They are? I can't find anything on the net about it  I'd be so pleased if they do, I missed them last time for the Skatalites.

Holy...

This just keeps getting better and better, Bomb the Music Industry! Mustard Plug and now Streetlight. What a month.

Henrik 09-14-2006 12:49 PM

I've search it.
The only thing I could find was new dates on the US tour with Reel Big Fish and those. But that isn't news.

Paddlefoot 09-15-2006 11:19 AM

If anybody could send me the link to the Gimp album, I'd appreciate it.
