i think they are equally good albums, but in the same way they are both equally lacking in Serj's vocals.

I'm Charming 03-30-2006 05:08 AM

Both albums were terrible.

SOAD as I've said many times is rather talentless.

The only song I've ever liked was "Question!", that was a good song.

These days it's not about talent. Although most musicians prefer talent... anybody else just goes with what appeals to them. Which is I guess how it should be. I like SOAD, but I like all that style of music so yeah...

The current mainstream music is proof that you don't need much talent to be successful.

And Question! is a good song init?

!MuDvAyNiAn! 03-30-2006 10:01 AM

question! is an amazing song. probably because its serj singing in that one :p
SOAD as I've said many times is rather talentless.
In your opinion. and as for that, i don't know what the hell influenced it. Serj has unique vocal skills, the drumming certainly is not "talentless", and they guitar/bass owns. some of their riffs are incredible. [IMO] to say SOAD are talentless is mad, for me. especially when you have people like Prodigy making even more money from pressing a few buttons.

Lol, i like soad, but prodigy is not "just to press some buttons" so be quite.

Rattlehead 03-30-2006 02:41 PM

im not into techno, but i am fairly educated in it. i know that Prodigy is full of extremely uncomplicated beats. so be *quiet

John's facial expressions are famous for being constantly foreboding and angry-looking, which together with his usual smart dress sense, make him look like a Russian Mafia member. Lead singer Serj Tankian was quoted in Kerrang magazine as always trying to make John crack a smile on stage, to which John replied that he had to make an extreme effort to keep a straight face and not get put off beat, which is sometimes not believed due to the fact that John is very rhythmically sound when it comes to his drum beats.

One night, when John was five years old, he woke up in the middle of the night and went to his parent's room out of fright. His parents allowed him to sleep in their bed, and soon after a bullet came through the window of John's room and hit his bed, where he would have been sleeping.

Found these on wikipedia!

Lunarfall 03-30-2006 04:17 PM

Screw their new stuff, go self-titled and Toxicity. :thumb:

Clunge 03-31-2006 08:23 AM

Mesmerize > Hypnotize by a long way. Hypnotize really was a dreadful album.

Self-Titled
Mesmerize
Toxicity
STA!
Hypnotize

For me.

Neoteric 03-31-2006 08:29 AM

I liked Mezmerize but Hypnotize was bloody boring.

UpperDecker 03-31-2006 08:47 AM

I use to like their older stuff alot but i don't really listen to it anymore. I think their new stuff is very bland and half-assed though there are some cool riffs in BYOB Question!. After hearing the first of their double release i didn't bother buying their newest one.

:) their best songs IMO are on toxicity and soldier side is one of their best also.

EDIT: Damn that seems contradictory.

purgatory 03-31-2006 12:47 PM

^ Just a little lol.

PepsiMetal 03-31-2006 01:27 PM

I like toxicity and STA the most. S/T, mez, and hyp are last. They're good just not as good as toxicity really.

Rattlehead 03-31-2006 01:37 PM

yea. self titled is their best IMO. but Tox. is bloody good. then it would be STA, Mez., Hyp. i like it all, except for Stealing Society. but Hypnotize is definately a step-down from the previous albums. but it is perfectly possible that they will right themselves.

Mambuto_O'Mally 03-31-2006 03:06 PM

For me I like it all except Stealing Society as well as BYOB. I loathe that song.

!MuDvAyNiAn! 03-31-2006 05:02 PM

My favourites:

Toxicity
Mezmerize
Self titled and Steal this Album (equal)
Hypnotize

HAIL TRUE METAL 03-31-2006 05:33 PM
No he can't do much better, he's not that good.

He's like lars of metallica, for system of a down. A manager type who plays in a band just because it's his band and he wants to fill that position. :smoke:

So you're saying you listen to music because no one knows about it and if they get big you stop listening because they gain more younger fans, and all of a sudden, because of their younger audience, even their old music that you loved starts sucking?
no. i did like them when i was younger, but i didn't stop liking them when they became big. i stopped listening to them way before that happened. i got into punk for a bout a year and a half and then got into metal.

what i meant was that most of the bands that i listened to when i was younger are bands that are now big and my friends never heard of them before. thats all i said.

Lunarfall 04-08-2006 10:57 AM

1. S/t
2. Toxicity
3. Hypnotize
4. Mezmerize
5. Steal This Album!

That's how I think it.

Aerials = Best Song Ever by them

New name Spiraldown 04-11-2006 01:05 AM

1. Toxicity
2. S/t
3. Steal this Album!
4. Mezmerize
5. Hypnotize

Moses 04-11-2006 01:45 AM

The Richard Cheese version of Chop Suey is alot better. The piano solo intro makes is what does it.

recently got into system, lovin toxicity album

!MuDvAyNiAn! 04-20-2006 03:08 PM

Toxicity is definitely my favourite album!

mutant! 04-20-2006 03:35 PM

Sup gice. Only got Hypnotize a week or so ago. Enjoying it immensely. I must say, Attack is quite good. It ties in well with the whole BYOB "battlefield" effect, and the intro's great for theatrical stage antics - I'd like to see them playing it live. With a little more personality than they usually show. I also like Holy Mountains a lot, sweet harmonies. Lonely Day is a cute little emo anthem, it's so funny (and quite ironic) to hear Daron singing that kind of thing, especially considering his band's oft-political stance. And Soldier Side... what an epic.

Someone in this thread posted something a while ago about how you can link Mezmerize and Hypnotize's tracks together into one long playlist where each song flows into the next. Is this true?

Rattlehead 04-20-2006 03:39 PM

yo man. i doubt it, most of them end within the playback time don't they?? and yea,i like Hypnotise, despite the daron vocal overload.

mutant! 04-20-2006 03:46 PM

CHRIST WHEN WILL PEOPLE STOP GOING ON ABOUT DARON think of it from an artistic point of view. Music is an art, amirite? OK. Thus each song is an artwork. Now look at System's typical lyrical material. For one, they're often immensely sarcastic in bringing their points across. Also, they loooove poking fun at pop culture. Pop-punk bands such as Blink-182 sadly form(ed) a part of pop culture. Thus this kind of music (pop-punk) becomes a metaphor for pop culture. From an artistic point of view, what's a good way to sarcastically poke fun at a music genre?

Imitate it.

Listen to Lonely Day's lyrics. It's a beautiful example of how Daron is (remember this is all IMHO) jabbing a stick at "dark" pop-punk bands like Good Charlotte. It would sound so **** if Serj tried to sing that. In fact, it'd sound like he's being serious. However, Daron's decidedly teenage voice makes it funny. From an artistic point of view, excellent sarcastic irony and use of timbres.

***

Anyway, the whole combined playlist thing: I don't mean the songs should flow into each other, but I mean like one song ends in the same key as the next starts in, or one's outro forms the musical basis for the next song, that kind of thing. I might go browse the thread and see if I can find that list.

mutant! 04-20-2006 04:03 PM

Found it.

Attack
BYOB
Dreaming
Revenga
Kill Rock 'N Roll
Cigaro
Hypnotize
Radio Video
Stealing Society

Tentative
Violent Pronography
U-Fig
Question!
