indeed they are

Seafroggys 07-31-2004 04:24 PM

Hmm, comparing the Backstreet Boys to The Beatles.

Take a look at the cover to Millenium, then look at the cover to Abbey Road. Very similar indeed.

Oh boy.

The Beatles wrote the best songs of all time. Well, I think Lennon wrote the best songs of all time, but thats beside the point. I don't see how you say they suck. Yeah, they weren't the best musicians, but if you judge songs by plain talent alone, go listen to some Mozart or something else. Jesus.

SkaRobotArmy 07-31-2004 04:29 PM

im not. i like plenty of $hit musicians but people say they were the BEST musicians ever, and completely believe it, its ridiculous they are way over rated. they did not write the best songs of all time. there is one or two songs i can listen to and not want to hurt small creatures. they're music is dull, gutless and boring.

Maybe its teh drugzors.

Badmoon 07-31-2004 07:48 PM

As musicians they were underrated. Of course they had their overrated moments. But here, on most of Paul McCartney's solo albums, he played each instrument, and did it well. George Harrsion played 46 instruments well, and pretty much introduced the sitar to Rock. John Lennon was quite a good piano player. And Ringo set the path for millions of up and coming drummers. He kept a good rythm and played with a now very common style, which was rarely, if never seen then.

Ph34r_m3 07-31-2004 08:01 PM
Yep. Then again so is Good Charlotte :(. Some teenagers are more cool than others I guess.
Amen.

Ph34r_m3 07-31-2004 08:04 PM
they were bad musicians who made boring music. hendrix isnt very good either, maybe a good guitarist but i dont like his music.
Then you must DIE. Why do you bother flaming Hendrix.... It won't go over very ****ing well.

So? people call lots of people the best musicians ever everywhere from good charlotte and britney spears to mozart and beethoven. And even your favourite artists too. You don't seem to hate them for it. Hateing someone for what other people think of them is illogical.
they did not write the best songs of all time. there is one or two songs i can listen to and not want to hurt small creatures. they're music is dull, gutless and boring.
Want to actually debate this instead of being another criticizing prick? Provide reasons and back them up.

Dull in what aspect?
Gutless? Gutless in what aspect? because in most they actually did a lot of new "riské" things, they were the guys in long hair when it wasn't acceptable, they used odd sounds no body really used, they did and talked about drugs in their music.
Boring in what aspect?

Don't come in here and just be a criticizing prick saying so and so sucks, you just sound ignorant and foolish.

amen. Anyways, back to music...

What's your favorite Beatles album. Mine would definetaly have to be Sgt. Peppers. it's just soooo creative. and it has a day in the life. THough my runner up is the White Album, just because it had so many diverse but good songs...

rocked not rolled 07-31-2004 09:46 PM

Sgt peppers is my favorite probably. or I guess magical mystery tour.

This goes to show, you don't insult the beatles in the classic rock thread and live :thumb:

lol and then he def crossed a line by calling them talentless. i think they'll find his body in a few weeks at the bottom of a swamp.

rocked not rolled 07-31-2004 09:56 PM

:thumb: He called hendrix talentless . Man some serious idiots post in here.

RockAndRoll 07-31-2004 10:42 PM

I have no Idea what my favourite beatles album is. :(

Seafroggys 07-31-2004 11:21 PM

My favorite overall is Abbey Road, but most of my favorite songs are on the White Album.

I say Abbey Road because all the songs are really good and the album meshes really well and is polished.

You have to admit the White Album has some crappy stuff on there (Wild Honey Pie, my god!), which is why it isn't my favorite album, but my god Sexy Sadie, Helter Skelter, Birthday, Dear Prudance, Happiness is a Warm Gun, I'm So Tired, Yer Blues.....that in itself would make the best album of all time.

Badmoon 07-31-2004 11:49 PM

I really like Sgt. Peppers, but my favorite is The White Album. It's so abstract, and odd. And has so many great tracks.

themightyquinn 08-01-2004 10:06 AM

The White Album is the greatest album ever made. It is the most diverse album in rock, because it was more like a solo effort by the fab four. Plus there are so many great songs on it like While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Dear Prudence, Happiness is a Warm Gun, Julia, Helter Skelter, and Birthday. And Wild Honey Pie is a great psychedelic song, whats wrong with it?

B0nz0 08-01-2004 11:05 AM

When ppl talk about favorite beatles albums, the three that always seem to come up are Sgt. Peppers, WHite Album, and Abbey Road. But the Beatles had tons of other good albums that i seldom hear mentioned. Rubber Soul and Revolver are both greeeat albums. And Let It Be is quite good as well. Meet The Beatles and Magical Mystery tour are mentioned even less, but are also good albums. what are your thoughts on these lesser talked about beatles albums?

themightyquinn 08-01-2004 11:36 AM

Actually, Revolver is considered the greatest album of all time on some lists. Magical Mystery Tour is very underrated, just look at all the #1 songs on it. Rubber Soul was the beginning of the path to Sgt. Peppers and the White Album, and it is just **** good.

rocked not rolled 08-01-2004 01:53 PM

*bumpzorz*

Badmoon 08-01-2004 02:14 PM

I really like Let it Be, too. Such great songs, with some very odd timings.

rocked not rolled 08-01-2004 02:22 PM

Yup, so much quality in each one it's hard to pick.

itdiestoday 08-01-2004 03:14 PM

my mates band from London One For Nothing have old skool rock influences but modern sound, nothin groundbreaking but gd fun. Check out the solo on "here i am" on www.purevolume.com/onefornothing at around 2.10, very randy rhodes meets dave murray

rocked not rolled 08-01-2004 04:05 PM

The Doors!

keep on phishin' 08-01-2004 04:47 PM

i would say the doors dont sound much like anybody. they are one of a kind.
ac\dc sucks. led zeppelin sucks. the beatles especially suck and were the backstreet boys of the 60s and 70s. the only good 'classic' rock is Neil young and rush..and maybe boston. dylan aint to bad either...
lol that was the second nicest thing someone who never comes here has said...

B0nz0 08-01-2004 07:10 PM
i would say the doors dont sound much like anybody. they are one of a kind.
agreed.

The Doors combined classical keyboard work with flamenco guitar and jazz drumming, making a unique, often imitated, but never duplicated sound.

heyjude8288 08-01-2004 07:37 PM

Everybody in my band is, although not as much as me. My best friend's favorite is Jimi, and a lot of kids dig that.

I always see a lot of Jimi and Zepplin, which, there's nothing wrong with that, but there's.....better bands out there (COUGH-Who, Beatles-COUGH).

That's just my opinion, lol.

There is one thing though, and sorry if I offend any guitar players out there. Many guitarists at my school get extreamly cocky if they can play at least one Hendrix song all the way through, and though, while that's very impressive, it's really nothing to get hung up about.

Play some stuff that Townsend did, then I'll give you a hand. (Not that Townsend was better than Jimi, although in my opinon he was, but just how many times Townsend multi-tracked and the solos upon solos in each song. Example: "Who Are You?"'s acoustic solo).

Badmoon 08-01-2004 07:58 PM

Pete Townshend is more of a rythmic guitarist. So, I try not to compare him to Hendrix, both very different. If you want to compare Townshend to someone, compare him to Tony Iommi. Both similar.

GuitarComet 08-01-2004 08:26 PM

I think the problem is, there are more bands out there, making it harder to find the next Led Zeppelin and also harder for the next Zep to compete.
A cool new band out there is "The Secret Machines".
But yet you've probably never heard of them.
Too many other bands pushing through the crowd trying to get noticed.
It wasn't this way back in 1960~1979.
Now anyone with a home studio can make a record and get on the radio with the right connections.
I mixed a song for my sister's boyfiend's band in my studio for a contest.
It was played on the radio three times and won the competition!
30 years ago? Never!

Badmoon 08-01-2004 08:32 PM

Does anyone really want a new Led Zeppelin though. Come on! You know I'm not a fan, but don't you want something new and outrageous that will bring back the old days?

Soundgarden...The next L.Z., The Black crowes...The Next L.Z.

Now where are they? Barely anywhere.

Give us a new Janis Joplin or something, that'd be better.

magicbus 08-01-2004 08:34 PM
i would say the doors dont sound much like anybody. they are one of a kind.
That's why I love em :thumb:

Just listening to their songs makes me want to learn keyboard. And they're all so visual. Love it.

Badmoon 08-01-2004 08:38 PM

Tommorow I'm going to buy something from Derek Trucks, anyone have any recomendations?

rocked not rolled 08-01-2004 09:06 PM

I wish that people would stopcomparing everyone to Led Zeppelin! Good god there are like 2000 classic rock bands that were all good. Why keep comparing every band to them?

Err, I haven't heard any derek trucks solo stuff. I tend to just stick the the allmans. Exept for greg allman's solo stuff.

CommissioningInC 08-01-2004 09:45 PM
I love classic rock...it's practically all I listen too...I have always been a classic rock fan...I think mainly because when I was a little girl, I would listen to what my dad was listening to...

I like stuff like...

The Who
The Guess Who
The Doors
Deep Purple
The Eagles
Cream
Creedance Clearwater Revival
Pink Floyd
The Beatles
Bob Dylan
WAR
The Rollingstones

and much more
You have freakin good taste, man... :thumb: You classic rock fans should try listening to the band CAKE. No, they don't have that classic rock feel, but they have a sound like no other band I've ever heard, and in my book, that's respectable. Them and RHCP are the only current bands out there that I deem worty of my listening.

BludgeonySteve 08-01-2004 10:12 PM

RHCP were only good in the 80s and early 90s imo. So you can;t really call them classic rock but you can't call their good stuff current. I don't really care, they rule.
