The thing about affirmative action is that it's not about equality, it's about hiring the black man because he's black.
Yeah, thats pretty rough, although being a white guy its harder to form an unbiased opinion. But, in this case, I don't know who couldn't.
Pretty much just take it as it comes.

I mean hey, I am working and earning a very decent salary and Have just been offered a new job at multinational firm.

So if you are smart and know where to look the is plenty of work to be had.

My feeling has always been that one should choose the best person for the job.

However, if the best person happens to be white and has had the luxury of going to good schools and universities and thus has a better education behind him, whereas the black/coloured/Indian etc has as a result of a discriminatory system received an inferior education then the whole process is not really fair from the begining, thus enters affirmative action.

When my dad applied for the job he was in now, the CVs/resumes from the applicants were sorted by one department, and copied out with NO mention of age, gender or race, or even name. THey were stripped down to the personal statement/qualifications, and given a serial number. The people who then read through them and chose which ones should be called for interview never saw any of that stuff.

I think that's a good system... quite labour intensive, but it's a big company.

Wintermute 10-19-2006 03:40 PM

Question - which version of The Office is it you're all raving about? The original, or the remake?

Have you ever watched it?

It's in the third season now and I've been watching from the start. It's actually one of the funniest shows ever. I literally LOL through every single episode.

I love them both, but I'm talking about the "remake."

It's not exactly a remake, they made the first episode pretty much the same, the first season followed pretty much the same story, but it's actually very different from the British version.

A guy at my school tried to pick a fight and ended up taking two bullets in his face...

I wonder if it was worth it for him..
