Wow, you guys were right. This rules. The band is in great form. Far better than I expected. It's not pure ownage, but considering what I was expecting they really did a great job. I put off listening to it right away to see what other people thought. Now I can't wait for the album and hopefully the show in Philly Nov. 25.

Yeah man, it's fuc.kin fantastic. This is so exciting for me and I hope all of us who have posted in this thread and have waited in anticipation for this. Like you said, great job. Pete, Roger, Pino sounds great. It's simply remarkable IMO. I did not anticipate this. I thought I might have to give the guys kind of a break. But no! They don't need it. This band is alive and I hope that translates to the stage when they hit the states. I'd be pleased if you left your opinion in the comments section of the review on sputnik. That would be really great, man. I'm really glad you like it. You made this thread happen and it's been the best thing on the internets for me. So in light of this release and this great band, thanks once again. :)
|
Commented on the review John, which was great by the way. You really do an exceptional job at the Who reviews on Sputnik. I owe you for keeping this thread alive and being so devoted to it so I think were about even now anyway :)
Wire and Glass inspired me to throw on some good ol' Quadrophenia for the first time in awhile. |
lmfao I listened to Tommy last night! :amaze:
And thanks for what you said about my Who reviews on sputnik. I like to see you there supporting the band as well with your comments. So far as helping to keep the thread alive and stuff? I gotta man. It's THE WHO! |
Agreed. The new material is incredible..
I wasn't sure what to expect. The band is really together (in typical who fasion) and the rythm section still creates that wall of sound behind Pete and Roger (also in typical who fasion). In my opinion, from listening to it, we hear the best from all of their "stages" right from elements of their early stuff through to Quadrophenia, Who's Next and Who Are You. Excellent stuff. |
I pretty much agree with that assessment, Jeff. I really don't know how they did this except to say it's the gift of Pete Townshend once again. I mean he wrote these tunes. And these are some pretty damn good ones.
That said, I think Roger is simply great on these cuts. I often slag him as "the singer". Always giving Pete a hard time about lyrics and stuff. But Pete has said he wrote these lyrics for Roger, so to speak. With him in mind. And I tell you, Roger makes it sound that way. His vocal phrasing and inflictions or top notch here. I'm really impressed with him. Especially on Mirror Door. He gives that song so much. But yeah, this record sounds like The Who influenced by themselves, basically. Sort of like drawing on all their history yet remarkably coming up with something fresh and new out of it. I'm glad you enjoy it, Jeff. It just makes liking this band that much more rewarding. We Got A Hit is stuck in my head to no end :( |
So I just watched Tommy for the first time. It was amazing.

I still find that movie to be toooo weird. Apparently Quadrophenia is weirder. : / That's just what my friend said though. I haven't seen it. |
wire and glass is good
3.5/5:thumb: |
Yea, that's what I gave it too. Great promise, but not really enough material yet. We'll have to wait on the whole album to see if they've really still got it all.
|

same here. can't really give a maxi-single a higher score. certainly has the makings of a 4 star album, though. Or even 4.5 if all the pieces come together. and as I said in another post Mike Post Theme and Man In The Purple Dress are also very good. and i believe they will be included. so that would seem to be 8 of 12 cuts. although i could of swore I read somewhere Pete trimmed it to 10 cuts as he thought the album was a nice tight set like that. we'll see. but it sure is exciting. here is a quicktime clip of the band doing Let's See Action. pete on lead vocals. the band kicks in about 1/4 through, so don't think it's a solo acoustic number. they sound great. great behind the scenes/backstage footage, too. and some well done crowd shots. no roger onstage because he still thinks he is being "exploited" somehow. stubborn bastard, as usual. this is supposed to be fun, Rog. it's the internets :( http://www.petetownshend.co.uk/media/letsseeactionagain.mp4 |
So I just watched Tommy for the first time. It was horrible.
I agree. |
it was pretty bad. never have finished watching it. some good performances. roger was good. but meh...

Elton John as the Pinball Wizard scarred me for life.
|
Yeah, I guess at the time it seemed like a good idea. Only in the '70's, I guess.
Been listening to Wire And Glass non-stop at home. It's just so easy for me to lose myself in this record. The breif songs just flow nicely, and ending with Mirror Door. My favorite part? All of it, really. They Made My Dreams Come true keeps revealing itself to me. Really good music... |
Anybody missed me? :P
I must hear all new stuff of the who, only heard Mike Post Theme(live though at a marvelous gig at hyde park ;)) |

The only way to describe the Who's music is: EPIC. My mom saw them in 1982 or so.
|
they are an epic band. Things like Listening to You, Love Reign O'Er Me, Won't Get Fooled Again, Sparks, Had Enough, etc. are the definition of epic.
|
I've never heard them as Epic. If so, epic in a good way? Not like Stairway To Heaven or Emerson Lake and Palmer, amirite? I see The Who as a more basic band. Really a basic, no frills rock n roll band. That's my take, anyway. They've had moments of granduer, but meh...

My Generation, Baba O' Riley and Won't Get Fooled Again are epic
every crowd will go wild on those |
My Generation, Baba O' Riley and Won't Get Fooled Again are epic
every crowd will go wild on those
I wouldn't define My Generation as epic, but the other two, yeah. And nothing wrong with the epic JXD described. ELP all the way! |
My Generation isn't my fav too, but it defines an entire generation :P
|
Alright, but in a good way. Not like ELP or Queen. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
lol |
I don't consider ELP epic, Queen I do. There aren't many bands I consider really epic, I don't consider The Who epic but somethings form them epic. But yeah, I know this goes nowhere, but how do you define epic ...
|
Musically, I have no idea. I'm just yapping, as usual. Did you see my offer to you for Wire And Glass? Do you want a link for download?
|
Thanks, but I probably will buy it :)
|
that's cool, man....
i just had some smoke and put on Quadrophenia. i'm going to listen while I work out a little. pretty sweet afternoon. :smoke: |
I got a Gibson without a case/But I can't get that even tanned look on my face/I'll fitting clothes and I blend in the crowd/Fingers so clumsy/Voice too loud.....
|
Hey Guys
I just found this website. It's really good, I think. Haven't seen it all, don't know what they have to offer, but it's all about Quadrophenia. Tours, setlist, pics, mods, scooters, etc. The film, too. Oh, and I read some posts back that said Quad was a strange film. But it's not. At all. It's a straight drama based on the album. Mod kid, drugs, beach riots, lot's of good shooting locations around England. It's a really good movie. Every Who fan should see it. http://www.quadrophenia.net/ |
