^I know what you mean, but they can't compete with many of their peers either. Collectively they all fit well because their skill levels are similar.

BludgeonySteve 11-20-2007 05:30 PM

No question Alex Lifeson is awesome, but I think that Neil Peart is a much better drummer than Alex is a guitarist.

SugarCoatedSour 11-20-2007 05:35 PM

Meh. I'd say they're all equally sophisticated with their approach, but what they're playing is still early 70's rock with certain progressive quirks. Now how that transfers over between drums and guitar is relative. Over all though I would say all 3 of them but in the same amount of "creativity"

And who would you consider to be their peers?

i've just got into Rush this year and i'm really enjoying them, i've got 2112, Caress of steel, Hemispheres, A Farewell to Kings, Power Windows and their latest one. I seem to enjoy Power Windows and Caress of Steel the most. Their latest album Snakes & Arrows seemed more like a collection of great songs rather than multi-minute epics

Gonads 11-21-2007 10:36 PM

Snakes & Arrows has more of an alternative sound to it, but I still love it. My Favorite Rush album right now is Moving Pictures.

Yes, it is. Rush haven't done anything 2112, Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres, and Caress of Steel style for years.

Gonads 11-25-2007 03:42 PM

Bump

Gonads 12-21-2007 12:32 PM

I recently got Permanent Waves, it's such a great cd Natural Science is one of the most underrated Rush songs.

Deth 12-21-2007 02:28 PM

It's a hell of a song.

Just bought The 30th Anniversary DVD for one of my friends for Christmas. He's become obsessed with Rush lately.

Gonads 12-21-2007 03:07 PM

That's great, I wanna get a Rush Dvd one day, from what I've seen on youtube it looks like Rush is a hell of a great live band.

132WalrusesInMexico 12-22-2007 12:19 PM

Rush was by far the best live act I've ever seen.

Yesterday was 21.12 :)

Gonads 12-22-2007 03:30 PM

Damn yesterday was 2112, I should of known that, I'm learning Freewill right now on bass, I just need to remember all of the parts.

Deth 12-22-2007 06:45 PM

That's a really fun song to play on bass. I love how it's in 7/4 but flows so smoothly.

Gonads 12-22-2007 08:35 PM

I wish I knew about time signatures, I've been lazy on my time signature studies.

TojesDolan 12-22-2007 08:36 PM

Rush is cool.

Times signatures is like dum dum crash dum dum crash

Gonads 12-22-2007 09:00 PM

Lol, sounds like a hip hop song.

Deth 12-22-2007 09:05 PM

It is, but with time signatures .

Gonads 12-22-2007 09:07 PM

How much bass theory do you think Geddy knows?

That's my favourite Rush CD. I saw them in September and it was definitely the best concert I've seen.

As for "Natural Science", they play it all the time so they definitely know its greatness!

I really enjoy this interview with Geddy Lee

132WalrusesInMexico 12-24-2007 06:09 AM

That is a cool interview.

That's pretty sweet that he bought his J Bass in Kalamazoo because that is where I live. I got really excited when I heard that.

Most of that album is great, but I hate "The Camera Eye". Grace Under Pressure is my favourite album right now - I love the synth.

Gonads 12-25-2007 11:42 PM

Today I got Hemispheres and Farewell to Kings for a christmas gift, both are amazing albums, every single song by Rush is great or good.

lak89 12-26-2007 06:00 AM

Power Windows is my favorite thus far, accesible but NOT mainstream, every song's perfect

Seafroggys 12-26-2007 12:59 PM

I got Hemispheres for Christmas, I haven't listened to it yet, listening to my new Who CD right now. Hopefully your guys' recommendation works out for me!

132WalrusesInMexico 12-26-2007 01:02 PM

Hemispheres is so fukn amazing. It's my favorite Rush album. It's definitely their most progressive. You will enjoy it.

Gonads 12-29-2007 02:07 PM

Every Rush cd is amazing so far for me, Snakes & Arrows has been growing on me a lot lately.

ghettoeddo 12-30-2007 03:05 AM
