FWTBT is pretty easy on guitar
y not try Creeping Death (Ride the Lightning) or Phantom Lord (Kill em All)

fatbandit 06-07-2005 02:57 AM

Uhm... I could play RTL, but my issue is remembering the order of things. That's the only problem I have with songs like One (which I pretty much have pat down).

To be honest, I need another patch lead for my pedals to be able to record FWTBT properly, and I'm skint.

And no, Cliff's intro isn't as hard as the middle riff which James and Kirk play.

I could possibly have a go at recording Sanitarium after my exam, but I may take a little time. Need to learn the second half.

Was your Seek and Destroy at the album version tempo gocaps?
FWTBT is pretty easy on guitar

yeah, creeping death is really cool! if you want a real challenge, do call of ktulu, complete with the solo and growling wah bass. for KEA, why not play 4 horsemen?

Jev 06-07-2005 10:54 AM

Are you recording just one song? Can't you record say 5 and chose the best one?

flamesofbodom 06-07-2005 10:58 AM

Do Trapped Under Ice or RTL. Their both fun. Everyone does FWTBT.

FlyingPaul_83 06-07-2005 11:05 AM

so who is recording?

cunning_stunt_77 06-07-2005 11:09 AM

Yeh, ive heard like 4 different covers of FWTBT but none of RTL, if u can play the solo...

....that would be obscenely cool :thumb:

flamesofbodom 06-07-2005 11:12 AM

The solo isnt hard...just long

fenderbender89 06-07-2005 11:17 AM

There is a solo at the end but I would just call it an ending not a solo.

flamesofbodom 06-07-2005 11:38 AM

Not on RTL. There is on Creeping Death

Jev 06-07-2005 11:41 AM

He meat FWTBT methinks.

fatbandit 06-07-2005 11:59 AM

Right. What is the decision on RTL? My options would be... RTL, Ktulu, or Creeping Death. I need to learn half of Ktulu, and the whole RTL song if its one of them. I might try doing Sanitarium for you lucky chappies later though.

FlyingPaul_83 06-07-2005 02:59 PM

From a guitarists view it would be Call of ktulu, creeping death,RTL. The solo in RTL is way crazy.

Jev 06-07-2005 03:13 PM

It's really not that hard, the fact that it's two guitars playing the solo makes it sound hard.

Thor 06-07-2005 03:43 PM

If anyone here can play RTL with the solo, that's awesome.

if i had a mic i could do for whom the bell tolls.

spenser93 06-07-2005 04:57 PM
Hmm. Shocking recording. Loads of wrong things, inconsistent volume etc. I need to get the hang of recording. Anyway. Here's something for you. Comment on tone and quality of recording (ie, is it good enough for you guys).

I've come to the conclusion that Seek and Destroy on the album is too slow :(

:smash:
can u post that in wmp form (windows media player) i dont got real.

oops sorry fir the double post.

PepsiMetal 06-07-2005 05:03 PM

How come I barely notice bass in most metallica songs. When they're on concerts, do they just give guitars too much volume and forgetting about bass? I was watching that rock in rio and they played creeping death and I couldn't notice bass until guitars stopped and rob kept playing bass. I guess it's noticable but it should probably be a little more.

That was good fatbandit. spenser93, you dont need real player to play that. Winamp can play it just fine.

dude no offense but u barley played that song right, buy the metallica legendary licks bass book and it will show u how, when u played the intro u should go

but it was still good, and for the eq use bass 10 mid 9 treble 3

btw theres a little part where he wips on his wah and od pedal during the chorus, right after james says seek and dsetroy.

I agree. That would be really cool from a guitarist standpoint to do those songs.
What recording stuff are you guys using? I wanna join in the fun. :)
If anyone here can play RTL with the solo, that's awesome.
If i had someting to record with i would do this or Trapped Under Ice or any other of the many Metallica songs i can play

LifeSwornToMusic 06-07-2005 07:13 PM

Hey, I hear Met is comming out with a remake of St. Anger with solos in the songs. Is this true? If so....thank the gods.

i did not hear about that....

it would be interesting to listen to but i think the sogns suck so much that even a guitar solo wouldnt make them sound better

Personally I don't think Kirk has it in him to make a decent solo anymore.
So I really don't think a remake of St. Anger with solos would be any good.
I think they should send James to some vocal training, and shoot Lars in the head.
Get a decent drummer, who knows what GOOD drums sound like. If they re-released St. Anger with a decent sounding drum, fixed James' voice, and maybe shortenned the songs, it would be fine. It is a great album, but there are a few problems which keep it from being an awesome album.

BassMasterMike88 06-07-2005 08:53 PM

Does anyone else here think that James's vocals have droped in quality over time from past albums to the more recent? Just listen to the vocals on The Four Hoursmen and compare them to the vocals on St. Anger.

vashts80 06-07-2005 09:03 PM

...Well no kidding, ~25 years of singing like that and your voice is sure to turn to crap. James isn't 19 anymore. Obviously his voice is going to go, just like Araya's voice is going, just like Dickinson's voice is going, just like Mustaine's voice is going.

BassMasterMike88 06-07-2005 09:11 PM

personally i think Mustaine's vocals are still somewhat strong, and Clapton has been singing for way longer then any thrash vocalists and he's still going strong.

heavy metal kid 06-07-2005 09:19 PM
personally i think Mustaine's vocals are still somewhat strong, and Clapton has been singing for way longer then any thrash vocalists and he's still going strong.
yeah, but clapton doesn't sing with the same strenght that hetfield or araya.

I Eat Souls 06-07-2005 09:49 PM
yeah, but clapton doesn't sing with the same strenght that hetfield or araya.
this guy knows truth

eXecrate666 06-07-2005 09:54 PM

the thing between hetfield's vocals now and 25 years ago is that its not that theyre weaker thyre just different. 25 years ago metallica was thrash, now theyre just crap. when hetfield sings lstuff from kill and rtl its awesome i think it just goes with the music

eXecrate666 06-07-2005 09:56 PM

by the way if talica where did u hear the rumor about talica and the st anger solos, i think that will be interesting to hear, st. anger in my opinion doesnt suck its just different and i respect metallica for doing something different.

Huber 06-07-2005 10:47 PM

Chuck Billy's isn't

About Clapton:

I don't know much about singing or anything, but the type of vocals Clapton does aren't the kind I would imagine ruining your vocal chords as fast as something like a thrash-style vocals would. Like I said though, I'm no expert.

Chu 06-08-2005 01:53 AM

I think Mustaine's voice is getting better. Well from a personal point I liked his original sound, it was unique, but now from a wider perspective, I think his voice is better now then it was in '85.

fatbandit 06-08-2005 06:00 AM

No offence, spenser83, but I know how to play the song. I played it almost exactly right, bar a few *minor* timing slipups, which people haven't picked up on, so its all good! It happens to be exactly how you tabbed it actually. So I don't see how you can say its wrong

On the subject of EQ, its an entirely subjective thing. I would not use that EQ normally, far too trebly for my liking. However, I can't record with anything less trebly without compromising sound quality. And I wouldn't use your EQ either. If everyone has the same EQ, the world becomes a boring place. I have a far mroe complex EQ than just one bass treble and mid knob as well, so your suggestion wouldn't help hugely.

Eep. Another exam, but no rehearsal tonight, so I can try and record something.

kurrpt 06-08-2005 06:48 AM
