Second solo on Deadwing.

Yeah dude, Tool broke up when Maynard came out of the closet back in '02 to form APC with Billy Howerdell..
Man, that solo rocks, dude. It's in this really bizarre mode, and my guitar teacher and I spent two weeks discussing it.

Dr. Jake Destructo 08-23-2005 04:30 PM

Meh, when I listen to Porcupine Tree, I like to hear the very beautiful, easy to listen to guitar parts. Granted, it's not all like that, but that solo is just way out there. I shouldn't say I don't like it, as it is still quite the solo, but I guess I prefer Wilson's style to Belew's.

So, you know the second solo in Arriving Somewhere But Not Here? Courtesy of Mikael Akerfeldt. I do think that Wilson wrote it though, as it features his signature hammer and slide technique that he displays so often. The first solo in that song..dohhh amazing. I'd reckon to say that is the best use of an E-bow right there. :)

EDIT: Now that I'm fully thinking about the second Deadwing solo, it has occured to me that my favorite part of the song is when it ends. I'm not trying to sound like a douchebag, or anything, but the last note of the solo(the note that is harmonized by some other string insturment) is definitely the climax of the song.
That's the biggest sack of bs I've ever heard. I'm a pretty big DT fan and I saw them recently on Gigantour (which was mostly to see them). I listen to them regularly and I've liked them for alot longer than I've liked Symphony X.

Oh and..........

You've never listened to Symphony X have you.

Like I said the technical acrobatics are better judged when seen.
Don't cry about it. So, I was wrong about not thinking you've listened to DT and I apologize. But it is understandable considering your comparisons of the members of the band with Symphony X. They both have very good musicians, but I happen to think that Symphony X are a lot cheesier and not nearly as good of songwriters. You don't know how to express an opinion as just that, an opinion. When you state your opinion as a fact, it makes me lose respect for you. However, I already had lost respect for you when you came in this thread and tried to tell everyone that Limp Bizkit's song "Everything" is a 16 min. long prog song that is very "Toolesque."

Darkness 08-23-2005 05:00 PM

I remember that Limp Bizkit thing... that song was terrible.

Mr Herb 08-23-2005 05:13 PM

Howerdel should play with tool, he could add great slide guitar, thatd be great I think

Darkness 08-23-2005 05:15 PM

I've always wondered what Tool would be like with another guitar player... Adam could stick to what he does best, rhythm, and another guy maybe for leads or something... that probably wouldn't work, but I wonder...

I agree there (in respect to Limp Bizkit's song being "Toolesque")... But damn... that was a little harsh to our fellow reg.

Kage 08-23-2005 06:02 PM

If you lost respect for one of the members on here whom I most respect, because of one song that he said something about that you disagreed with, that's pretty lame, satch.

Billy doesnt do slide its Troy van Luween that does the slide.

Syncratic 08-23-2005 06:11 PM

Any news, guys?

What's the current discussion?
Billy doesnt do slide its Troy van Luween that does the slide.
I didn't really lose all respect for him, I was just exaggerating.

Dried Muffin Remnants 08-23-2005 06:20 PM

Oh the drama!!! What on EARTH will Moses think?!!

Sorry, but there is nothing to talk about on this thread anymore. Can somebody say something edgy?

Kage 08-23-2005 06:21 PM

Whatever the case, I think you two should kiss and make up. :p

On another note, I'm pretty sure Billy does all the lead/higher guitar work in APC.

Mr Herb 08-23-2005 06:22 PM

judith vid sliding is just great, plus he technically does all the slides since he writes all the gutiar parts, Troy just plays em :)

Rothmans 08-23-2005 06:32 PM

I have seen Troy do slide loads of times.

He even does it on QOTSA he has the guitar on the thing and he uses that slide thing.

Mr Herb 08-23-2005 06:35 PM

well w/e, Billy slides too :)

I wonder who will do 2nd guitar for apc on their next album, I hope its someone new so it gets a bit more interesting

Syncratic 08-23-2005 06:41 PM

I'm actually kinda hoping that Tool does two more albums (including this current one being made) and APC doesn't, but whatever.

Darkness 08-23-2005 06:41 PM

Wait, isn't your user name a reference to Joe Satriani, THE king of cheese?

reeeeeeeeeefl, man. But hey, whatever. Symphony X rocks my socks a lot more than Dream Theater does. That's all I'm sayin'.
Wait, isn't your user name a reference to Joe Satriani, THE king of cheese
Hmm.. And here I thought Satriani was the king of kickass melodies

BlindWriting 08-23-2005 08:20 PM

Look in your CD cases

On Mer De Noms, Billy Howerdel wrote and played all the guitar (lead and rhythm) as well as the bass. Same goes for most of eMOTIVe.

On Thirteenth Step, Troy did play rhythm on three tracks, and Howerdel did the rest of the guitar on all the other songs (except for Danny Lohner on The Noose).

There's two more coming, including the current one. After that legal hassle before Lateralus they signed a three record deal with whoever it was. Volcano, perhaps.

APC, on the other hand, is done with their three record deal, which brings the question of whether they put out eMOTIVe just to get out of it. Seeing as it was... not so great and all.

I wouldn't doubt that about APC.

I'm curious to hear new stuff by APC, after Maynard is done with Tool.
