i haven't been on in a while, just wondering if there has been a song selected yet, last i heard it was seek and destroy, but it seems like there is still a little decideing going on, so if you can let me know, and this voting thing sounds like a good idea, One has my vote

Thor 06-05-2005 05:40 PM

Well now that the new cover band thread is up someone needs to officially tell me who is doing what in that thread.

Joe 06-05-2005 06:28 PM

ok so we're doing Seek and Destroy. i can go downstairs and record it on audacity if you guys want. i'd just need settings. i have a boss Metal Zone pedal and a Line 6 Spider 212

edit: well i can do most, i just need to learn the chords behind the solo (not the part that's the chorus)

Joe 06-05-2005 10:18 PM

ok so it's been 4 hrs since i've posted here and i was the last post. come on guys, what's the deal? how's the song coming?

\m/Pete\m/ 06-06-2005 12:35 AM

I'll do rhythm if Creeping Death gets the vote

fatbandit 06-06-2005 02:57 AM

Right... I can do Seek and Destroy on bass, no problem. Only problem is, when I record, it always records it as slightly distorted. I know this isn't a problem for you distortion laden guitarists, but how can I solve it? I've tried running at the lowest volume I can, and I'm running through the Line Out on my amp, so the quality shouln't be suffering.

Anyway, I'm happy to do Seek and Destroy, but in the 'Deth thread, they're planning Take No Prisoners, and if they pull that off, they will pwn us *so* badly. I still think we may need something more complex... My vote...? Maybe Battery or One?

I'll check back in her soonish. I have a little time before I go to my exam.

EDIT: Hmm. I just saw the rules thread. Seems some other threads are doing setlists (Maiden, Rage, ToT, maybe more...)

If you guys want to put together 5 or so songs, go for it. If not, I still think we should change the song from Seek and Destroy?

My 5 suggestions would probably be...

Battery
Call of Ktulu
Sanitarium
No Leaf Clover (OMG, seckz...)
Seek and Destroy?

I can record any of them when I find a solution to recording well. I would have to learn about half of Ktulu, Sanitarium and No Leaf Clover from that list. I'm sure, however, that we'll have disagreement over songs, so... Discuss.

FlyingPaul_83 06-06-2005 12:01 PM

my five would be:
1. one(hehe)
2. harvester of sorrow
3. leper messiah
4. welcome home(sanitarium)
5. Fade to black

fatbandit 06-06-2005 12:19 PM

Hmm. Shocking recording. Loads of wrong things, inconsistent volume etc. I need to get the hang of recording. Anyway. Here's something for you. Comment on tone and quality of recording (ie, is it good enough for you guys).

I've come to the conclusion that Seek and Destroy on the album is too slow :(

:smash:

Joe 06-06-2005 01:11 PM

FlyingPaul_83-- my five would be:
1. one(hehe) - could do rhythm and/or lead
2. harvester of sorrow -need to learn
3. leper messiah - need to learn
4. welcome home(sanitarium) -could do rhythm and/or lead
5. Fade to black -could do rhythm and/or lead

ok i suggest nothing off of AJFA, the stuff is way too long and too many places to mess up (unless we did one). i'd rather not do fade to black because it would ruin it for me and probably other fans if we messed it up. sanitarium i've already recorded and can play the whole thing

i just recorded most of the S&D rhythm

fatbandit 06-06-2005 01:19 PM

Gocaps, have a listen to my rough recording, see how it goes. Might be an idea to see how well it lines up with yours, too.

Joe 06-06-2005 01:39 PM

it's a good recording, mine was just for the heck of it. i haven't listened to the song in a while. is yours timed with the album version?

cliff solos for all 06-06-2005 02:22 PM

its good

cliff solos for all 06-06-2005 02:23 PM

any news about a new metallica album?

Jev 06-06-2005 02:29 PM
Look out for LarsAgi's review of The World Needs a Hero, I asked him to post it here, I think it's a good album and it will cure alot of the Anti-Mustaine **** that's floating around this topic(?).
I don't think anyone here really is anti-Mutsaine (I love him), only metalli-noobs who come in here thinking he's a nasty guy without hearing any 'Deth songs.

RustedPieces 06-06-2005 02:49 PM

Metallica / Megadeth = best bands in the world.

Chu 06-06-2005 02:55 PM
Metallica / Megadeth = best bands in the world.
I agree with this statement.

But yeah, alot of the people in this thread were/are anti-Megadeth, I guess most of them actually gave Megadeth a listen though, which is a very good thing in my opinion. Everyone should be listenning to Megadeth.

Deth 06-06-2005 02:55 PM

*Looks at my user title.*

I agree with RustedPieces.

vashts80 06-06-2005 03:02 PM

If you were doing a 5 song set:

Puppets
Clover
One
Battery
Orion :x

it would be good, but there's too much puppets

thats a really good recording and your technique is really good, not one mistake i noticed.
im being serious.
do you use a pick or fingers?

fatbandit 06-06-2005 03:42 PM

You guys serious? :amaze:

I thought it was pretty sloppy. Might go again another time. I need to add a second distortion/wah track though, for the fills. I decided against doing it at the same time as the main track.

Gocaps: Yeh, mine's timed with the studio version (which is what made me realise I hate the tempo).

Santana: Thanks! I use fingers normally, but I recorded that with a pick. It seemed more consistent for some reason. Its not my normal EQ, which is why I asked about it. It had to have a lot of bass scooped out of it, and my EQ is pretty much flat across the board on that recording. I can do more recordings soon though. Maybe one or two a day, if people know what songs they want me to do.

Do we want to go for... One off of KEA (Seek and Destory), one off of RTL, one off of MoP, one off of AJFA, and one off Black Album/S&M?

Chu 06-06-2005 03:43 PM

I just listenned to your recording of Seek & Destroy, pwnage :)

Chu 06-06-2005 03:45 PM

Do For Whom The Bell Tolls guys, it's fairly easy for guitar (And drums!), easy to pull off ;)
It would work really well in my opinion.

Edit: In my opinion, fatbandit could *easily* pull it off on bass too.

:P

Well sure its easy, but it may not be a good competition song. If other bands do songs that are really hard and pull it off, For Whom The Bell Tolls might not do you guys any good.

Chu 06-06-2005 03:53 PM

But there's a difference between pulling it off, and pulling it off well.
I really think it's possible to do For Whom The Bell Tolls really well.

Edit: What about Fight Fire With Fire?

fatbandit 06-06-2005 04:01 PM

Hmm... Possibly. Would require more planning on my part to organise my effects, but its easily possible. I dunno. I'd look at the options on RTL first. If its possible, I'd be happy doing Call of Ktulu, for a start :p Or Creeping Death? I think those three are the competitors? Am I right?

I'm off for the night anyway, I'll catch up on the choices later guys.

Yeah I guess you have a point.

errorleet 06-06-2005 04:37 PM

why not ride the lightning?

Chu 06-06-2005 04:59 PM
why not ride the lightning?
I don't believe anyone here could play that. Maybe parts of it, but as an entire song I don't think so.

*I could be wrong.

Darkness 06-06-2005 05:01 PM

I heard you guys were having some problems with the covers... whats wrong?

Thor 06-06-2005 05:07 PM
I heard you guys were having some problems with the covers... whats wrong?
Their drummer isn't doing anything.

i was promised lies 06-06-2005 10:05 PM
That's a pretty poor excuse if you ask me. I'm not going to rag on you saying you can't play it, but until proven otherwise, that's what I'd have to assume. You have a guitar lead I assume. You only need something that will cost you a dollar or so from an electronics shop. That won't break the bank, will it?
Sorry about the long reply time. My real problem is the tone of my guitar. I live in Australia and we have a certain company called Ashton Music. I have a guitar built by them, fortunately its no longer in production, but it has the stock pickups in it, therefore, it has a crap tone, maybe if I had some accessible money I could get it some replacement pickups, and now, I have the **** adapter, if you really want I can record the lead and post it here

ok now i'll do the same and see how it sounds together.

here's my idea list (with fb's idea)

KEA- S&D
RTL- FWTBT
MoP- Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
AJFA- One
Black or S&M- either Sad but True or No Leaf Clover

for whom the bell tolls would be fairly easy. i can do all of it except that one riff that kirk and james play (it's not technically a solo, but you guys know what i mean)

i can play a lot of the RTL solo, but nothing else of that song.

metal_milita 06-06-2005 10:35 PM

Why not One? I can play a fairly passable version of that song.
About the Seek Destroy thing, its like the only song I haven't bothered to learn (apart from the intro riff, thats kickass)

btw, thanks for your comments about the track I recorded.

You haven't tried that riff/solo have you?
It's not really that hard, I mean, I can play it :o

Joe 06-06-2005 10:37 PM

i haven't listened to your track i don't think.

and for my list i'm volunteering to play lead and/or rhythm for any of those songs (some would take some learning) but if anyone wants to step in and do work too be my guest

Joe 06-06-2005 10:38 PM
You haven't tried that riff/solo have you?

The one in FWTBT? or in RTL? I tried the riff once for FWTBT but I forgot it. I can do most of the RTL solo but haven't really tried anything else in the song

Chu 06-06-2005 10:39 PM

FWTBT, I am almost certain you could play it man.

Joe 06-06-2005 10:42 PM
FWTBT, I am almost certain you could play it man.
Me too, it just would take time. I thought that riff that Kirk plays in the beginning would be hard but it's pretty simple

but now back to the list. what do you guys think???

Demon King 06-06-2005 11:16 PM

Kirk's riff on FWTBT isn't that hard...the hard riff on that is Cliff's part
