I hate really sugary indie pop (SLGTM, Mates of State, Grandaddy, Fiery Furnaces, Beulah, etc.). Oh man I can't stand it.
Hence your distaste for the last few Flaming Lips albums? Man I wish that guitarist didn't disappear :(

I'd say that the Fiery Furnaces experimentation brings them above your typical sugary indie pop.

Today:
The Police - Synchronicity

Tuxedomoon. A new wave band that deserves so much more credit than they get. So great. It's a shame how few people actually know them.
Dude I just watched the Live At Pompeii DVD last night, and it was the coolest thing I've ever seen. It's post-Syd, but it's pre-Dark Side. Check it out.
I'm not a huge Floyd fan by anyones standards, but Live at Pompeii is possibly the best live performance I've ever seen. Can you imagine being one those roadies. Just hanging out, ruins of Pompeii, private show by the Floyd - shit.

I downloaded a bunch of jazz albums from the past year, because the Downbeat Critic's Poll issue came in the mail. So far, Overtime by the Dave Holland Big Band is a miss. Too bombastic.

I also got Africa Brasil by Jorge Ben, and I don't like that, either.

Man, music sucks.

Roxy Music - Avalon

Digging a bunch of psychedelic pop songs. Right now, listening to some stuff by White Noise, a weird little early electronic band.

YDload 07-19-2006 09:19 PM

Man, "Pickpocket" is like the best ATDI song ever, so damn catchy. Plus it has nonsense lyrics like "breakfast table search team implodes." what

ATM 07-19-2006 09:20 PM
Africa Brasil is crazy good.
Exactly! I got it today and its a really nice album.

Definitely. Without Swearengen though, the show would feel so lost. He really pulls everything together for me and makes it all worthwhile.

jurassic 5 - feedback
ariel pink's haunted graffiti - worn copy (this is really creative, it kinda makes me sick because of all the filters but it's like a 70s blaxploitation film in song form. cool.)

I've had An Electric Storm in my hammerspace Amazon basket for months now. Whenever it comes down to actually ordering, it always gets kicked aside for something else. Is it worth the time?
