We'll just have to agree to disagree :p

Seriously though CWA doesn't really sound progressive to me. Straight up modern rock with some progressive things in it.

No such thing as progressive pop. Brittany Spears could never make any of her songs progressive and have them still called pop.

Dr. Jake Destructo 01-02-2006 10:23 PM

Since we're on the topic of dredg, I personally think that Leitmotif kicks the living crap out of their other two albums. I'm probably alone on this, as most people seem to adore El Cielo, but I really dig Leitmotif. I really didn't appreciate the album until I learned a few of the songs from it on guitar. I took Engles' style for granted, but after learning Symbol Song and Movement I (numbers go here), I began to realize how unique of a style he has.

I disagree. What if she started using a more unique song structure, and had longer songs, but still overall the same general type of music?

And yes, I am arguing just for the sake of it. :D

/hasn't heard any Dredg

Moses 01-02-2006 10:25 PM

Well you only got El Cielo a little while ago.@ Jake

Pop= popular music
unique song structures= not popular

In fact:
unique= not popular

/looses the argument I never really supported

Otherside 01-02-2006 10:35 PM

You can't seriously be calling all pop music monotoneous. Pop doesn't mean mainstream by the way. Indie-pop bands like The Arcade Fire and The Shins are definitley unique.

Moses 01-02-2006 10:40 PM

Never said monotoneous just not unique, because if you want to be popular you can't do somthing weird, atleast nobody has. Indie-pop isn't really pop anyway.

Dr. Jake Destructo 01-02-2006 10:40 PM

Lightbulb Sun is a pop album, yet at the same time, it is very progressive. If jazz metal can be done, then prog pop can be done.

Moses 01-02-2006 10:42 PM

Lightbulb Sun is not pop. It's rock to me.

Dr. Jake Destructo 01-02-2006 10:49 PM

Songs like How is your Life Today?, Where We Would Be,The Rest Will Flow , and Feel so Low make me think otherwise. Those songs are definitely pop, no doubt. Every song has very poppy moments, but then again, it is also a very progressive album.

That's why I'd consider it a prog pop album.

I agree, Leitmotif is my favorite.. The reason you mentioned being one of them... The main riff for Symbol Song is pure genius..
Another reason is that the album feels like a journey, moreso than any other cd I've heard.... The booklet enhanced this quite a bit

TojesDolan 01-02-2006 10:52 PM

Genre?

denboy 01-02-2006 10:54 PM

It beats the cd store that, even though they highly recommended CWOA, they compared it with Linkin Park.
I mean, even if you like Linkin Park, they have absolutely nothing in common

chongi 01-03-2006 10:56 AM

I heard nothing on Catch Without Arms that even hinted at progression, it was very disappointing.

Pale-Folklore 01-03-2006 11:24 AM

sorry, but i'm just wondering, does dredg have anything to do with tool?

magicbus 01-03-2006 12:16 PM

Has anybody heard anything about the new album music/sound wise? Like will it sound like any of the previous albums? I haven't been keeping up to date.

PinkFreud 01-03-2006 12:19 PM

carey's supposed to be using electric drums for some of the album. i dont know how i feel about that.

Darkness 01-03-2006 12:23 PM

Danny said it was going to be heavier and more progressive then Lateralus.
I heard nothing on Catch Without Arms that even hinted at progression, it was very disappointing.
I'm not sure what you mean by progression. If you mean progressive rock, you listened to the completely wrong album for that. If you meant making progress as a band and progressing from their old material, then I see where you're coming from.

I don't think CWoA is a good introduction to the band, in any case.

I enjoy CWoA a lot, but, in retrospect, I really think they could have done something better, even with the songs they had. Rather than making songs like Zebraskin, Sang Real, and Jamais Vu pop songs, they should've Dredg-ed 'em up a bit more. :-/

Not yet, but there is that joke song from a couple weeks back, 81st Chakra. I thought it was hilarious. You should give it a listen :thumb:

Darkness 01-03-2006 03:11 PM

81st Chakra is a master peice.

Daven 01-03-2006 03:20 PM

I remember seeing on a page that the new album is due May, i guess we'll have to wait until then.
