I listened to that part and still can't hear them. Are you sure you're not talking about the remix on the singles? |
As soon as I heard that Tool themselves weren't commentating I didn't care anymore. Not being into ambient music didn't help either.
I think I'll instead buy a Volto! ticket :thumb: |

I hear what he's talking about in Schism. Not sure its church bells though.
|
They sound like church bells to me <Shrug> Never heard em before either way.
|
They're triangle hits in the original version.

Did anyone read the newest Toolband.com update? Blair and Danny went on a little trip or something. There's something I noticed about it, though. It says they went to Danny's hometown Payola, Kansas. Except, it's spelt Paola. Payola, as I'm sure a lot of you know, is a bribe given to a disc jockey to induce him to promote a particular record. This is an illegal act but is known to be done by just about every record company. Blair also mentioned that when they pulled into Danny's childhood home driveway, "Schism" was playing on the radio. Considering the fact that he replaces Paola with Payola in the story more than once, do you think he's hinting at a new single soon?

I'd say it's plausible. |
I'd say we need to get outside a whole lot more. Or maybe just stop reading those stupid updates.

Those updates are like communicating with God, so we cannot stop reading them, or face a lifetime of damnation. |
I didn't know that. I would never have even caught that he spelled it wrong.
I'd say we need to get outside a whole lot more. Or maybe just stop reading those stupid updates.
 I check the news page everyday. Oh and Merry Chirstmas thread. |
Lustlord remixes suck balls a bit to be honest.
Merry non denominational holiday to you all. [its christmas really whiny liberals] |
Merry Christmas......I got my Schecter and the Parabola DVD...the commentary is confusing, anybody got insight?
|
Merry Christmas everyone.
Did anyone get the Dvd's in the end? |
I didn't get any presents for christmas. I was hoping by chance to see a nice XBOX 360 under our 3 ft. fake tree.
|
I can't believe I was hacked on Christmas Eve... :(
This sucks... all those posts/rep... gone.. |
Merry Christmas......I got my Schecter and the Parabola DVD...the commentary is confusing, anybody got insight?
I got an Epiphone Les Paul guitar :D :D :D It's sweet. Merry Christmas thread. |
You lucky kids and your expensive gifts. So far I got Stewie Griffin's Untold Story DVD and it's funny as hell, a nice jacket and a hundred dollar gift certificate. I wish I got a Schecter guitar :upset:.
|
I got a Schecter aswell.
C-1 hellraiser all the way. |
I just recently bought my Parker Nitefly M guitar and I'm saving up for an amp, so I didn't really have any guitar stuff for Christmas. My parents don't buy it for me anyway.
But I did get a nice selection of DVDs, cash, and gift certificates. I got a Martin Scorsese Box Set (Goodfellas, Mean Streets, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, Who's That Knocking at My Door, and After Hours); Videodrome Criterion DVD; "Curb Your Enthusiasm" Seasons 1 and 2; "Seinfeld" seasons 4-6; Jerry Seinfeld live on Broadway; and a Johnny Cash live DVD. As well as some good spending money and gift cards to Cinemark. Very good Christmas here. |
You lucky kids and your expensive gifts
All thanks to my extremely wealthy Grandma :p |
Did anyone get the Dvd's in the end?
You can say that again mate...I'm still bleeding! |
I'd say we need to get outside a whole lot more. Or maybe just stop reading those stupid updates.
Blair's posts are cryptic and irrelevant yet every time I log on the internet the first page I check is the Tool news page... Merry Christmas everyone! |
I didn't get the Tool DVDs like I was hopeing, but apparently my sister in law couldn't find them anywhere... oh well. I got Star Wars risk and a 20$ gift card for Cd Plus instead. \m/
Those are some great gifts. :chug:  |
I got a Schecter aswell.
C-1 hellraiser all the way.
I got an Omen-6, Trivial Pursuit 90s Edition (I know so much useless crap), a book that I already own (Lemony Snicket>You), the Parabola DVD, and a guitar cable. not to mention stuff in my stocking, like candy and gum. |
I definately gave out alot more than I got. I got my friend Ghost Reveries for 15$, my fiance 40$ worth of Manga (she's hopelessly lost in it, I like it but not as much as she does), I got my mom a scarf hat and gloves that all match which costed about 40$ as well, my sister got a squishy pillow which was like 15$, I got my fiance's family all presents which probably ended at 50$, and my step dad got a mini cooler which was 53$. All together that's 203$ that I spent on other people. In all I got pretty much what I gave but still I know people that get video cameras and new stereos.
|
I got...
$200 from my dad $100 from my aunt and uncle $25 gift certificate at my local guitar store from my brother and sister-in-law 2 shirts from them as well Zeppelin poster from 2 other brothers Joe Satriani - Is There Love in Space? guitar book from the same 2 brothers I think that's all. |
Hey dude, some interesting points there. Didn't maynard say the song wasn't about god and jesus? I know this doesn't affect your interpretation but to get the 'true' meaning sureley we have to look somewhere else. I find this incredibly hard when in the lyrics it mentions crosses
Well int he first stanza you picked out the lines 'he had alot to say, he had alot of nothing to say' i find these lines could talk about Martin luther king (now to be called MLK) You see he tried to change or reform america into a non racist nation. He had many things to say, which may have become reptitive, hence maynards contradiction. The next point i recieved from this guy called 'mstajduh' on the toolshed forums. in the line 'We need the f*ckin space to nail the next fool martyr the explanation the guy gave was "He was the one doing the nailing his 95 thesis on the corrupt catholic church in wittenburg" this makes sense, Maynard could be using a complex metaphor, but maybe im mistaken. These are the two main arguments i have. Has anyone got any othe rideas on 'eulogy'?
i always thought euology was about just leaders in general. the defining lyrics of the song for me are "he had alot to say...nothing to say" and "get off the cross, we need the space to nail the next fool martyr." this could be an analogy to any sort of revolutionary leader who throughout history has challenged the status quo and been killed or otherwise ostracized for it and is calling them hypocrites because their philosophy/dogma is just as close-minded as the ideas which they were challenging. jesus is a good example, although that was actually not my first impression. the first few times i listened to this song, i visualized the communist revolution in russia. however the allegory to christianity as a whole is sounds too i think. i do agree that Tool songs are purposely meant to make you think and do not offer any easy answer as to their true meaning. maynard and the others probably want listeners to create a meaning for themselves rather than dwell on what the song is "supposed" to mean. this pretty much holds true except for the tracks on opiate, which are more straightforward than the later albums; however the music as a whole on opiate was more convential anyway... however the meaning to 'opiate' i always thought was fairly clear, he is criticizing the church and corrupt preachers. the only thing i disagree with is the interpretation that "we both want to rape you" is talking about taking money, i.e. tithes. it rather made me think of rape in a literal sense, because wasn't that when all the church scandals were coming to light about priests sexually abusing little children? maybe this is too simple and easy a meaning but it seems sort of obvious to me... anyone have any ideas about prison sex? i thought maynard was talking about being abused as a child.. but i dont know for a fact he really was so i cant really say this positively. the lines "release in sodomy. for one sweet moment i am whole" and "do unto others what has been done to you." could he be lamenting that he is doomed to repeat what has been done to him as a child, i.e. sodomy? |
You guyes were right. Toology was horrible. There was one short interview with adam, then pointless other interviews with other un-important people. Plus the repetitive pictures every 2 mintues and not even any Tools song led to the disaster. I noticed on the back the it said: "Made without the authority of the Band, managemet or record company of Tool. So any one who doesn't ahve this and has even thought bout getting it, Stay Away.
|
well on a vid. i saw of tool when they played prison sex, maynard stated that this song is about the cycle of abuse within ones self and this song is about the first step which is recognizing, but after that step is to work through it.
|
The video also follows that cycle..... I no longer like watching it now that ive figured it out what it means to me, its really disturbing and sad.
|
What's a good music video site? Whenever I look, everything's sh*tty quality, and it's gay.
|
video.google.com has a few tool videos.
yahoo might as well. |
You could download videos from a file sharing program. Such as limewire.

videocode.org is pretty good for videos (schism and parabola don't work though) |
anyone have power tabs of TOoL songs?
I only have the power tab for Schizm, and I cant get any others |

And i wonder how many times that post (my eulogy post) has been quoted, it is above 10 i'm sure. |
I just got my 10 year old brother to like Tool. I put Cold & Ugly, Schism, and Parabola on his mp3 player and he liked them. Count it! *Family Guy*
