I was never a big fan of Emerson, Lake, and Palmer...

BludgeonySteve 12-17-2004 06:04 PM

I never said that 3 chord rock can't be good. But the bands that I was reffering to are not and really abuse it.

They need to be more like Jeff Healey :thumb:

 b0nz0's back. :chug:

MalcolmYoungRock 12-17-2004 06:05 PM

Speaking of The Beatle's I'm listening to Abbey Road.

One of my new favorite songs on that is "Maxwell's Silver Hammer"

The way John says

" Late nights all alone with a test tube, oh oh oh oh"

I just LOVE that part.

Woodstock 12-17-2004 06:06 PM

I'm pretty sure it was Paul singing.

BludgeonySteve 12-17-2004 06:06 PM
Well, he most likely meant mainstream, being that he is a fan of Widespread Panic and other various Roots Rock/Jam Bands.
See, badmoon knew I was only talking about the mainstream. 3 chords is good but with some good songwriting.

And it's rare that you find bland rock outside of the mainstream. Usually that stuff goes straight to the radio.
I'm pretty sure it was Paul singing.
Yeah, it's Paul, I can't tell :(

I just looked it up on teh intraweb.

Well, mainstream rock has always been bad (for the most part, at least).

BludgeonySteve 12-17-2004 06:13 PM

That's pretty much the reason i'm posting here. I like rock music but it started the get really crappy for the most part right around the mid 80s.

I can't be expected to go find every single band that's not in the mainstream. Though badmoon's jam list has helped.

Creedence Clearwater 12-17-2004 06:15 PM

So you look to go pre mid 80's for you classic rock, I look either side of 1965.

Mainstream music is bland before it is easier to market.

Illmatic 12-17-2004 06:16 PM

Well, no, what I'm saying is, mainstream rock has almost always been lousy. The bands that got the most airplay in the 70's were generic, anemic arena-rock bands.

You can always ask the alt/indie forum about good current music. Even if they may try to tell you that Coheed and Cambria and The Mars Volta are good.

The Mars Volta isn't that bad.

Arena rock is awesome, I says ;). Though there doesn't seem to be much of it now :(.

Ac/dc tour soon though.

Creedence Clearwater 12-17-2004 06:20 PM

Say Stadium rock, it sounds cooler

6Stringer 12-17-2004 06:22 PM

what do you think about king crimson? i just got a copy of "in the court of king crimson" and love it. i think i found a new favorite band.

Illmatic 12-17-2004 06:22 PM

All the lightweight bands like Free, Bad Company, and AC/DC?

I also forgot about another 70's abomination: pushover corporate rock acts like Steve Miller, The Eagles, and Billy Joel.

EDIT: to rock not roll

BludgeonySteve 12-17-2004 06:23 PM
Say Stadium rock, it sounds cooler
So it does

These new bands can't put on the same kind of show as the older ones. Atleast Ac/dc and Areosmith can rock like hell. What can Nickleback or 3 Doors Down do? Nothing at al

I'm going to resort to jam, blues and old burned out bands from the 70s who need more money for my concerts

Woodstock 12-17-2004 06:23 PM

Hey!

I love Steve Miller Band.

Creedence Clearwater 12-17-2004 06:24 PM

I like the Eagles?

I liken The Joker, does that mean i like Steve Miller

Hehe, yeah. I'll admit some of those bands are pretty lame.

Not AC/DC though

Fine, point taken.

But out of 30 years of music there are enough good bands that are well known for me to listen to. Plus some newer stuff.

Where's b0nz0? You'd think that he would be trying to catch up and all.

Illmatic 12-17-2004 06:26 PM

Fair nuff.

Creedence Clearwater 12-17-2004 06:27 PM

So nobody ealse is gonna stand up for the eagles?

Woodstock 12-17-2004 06:27 PM

I dont like the Eagles, though Joe Walsh is sweet. AC/DC is meh. And Steve Miller Band is great.

BludgeonySteve 12-17-2004 06:29 PM
So nobody ealse is gonna stand up for the eagles?
I'll say Hotel California is fun to listen to every week or so.

That's it.

Don Henley solo is a lot more interesting.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 12-17-2004 06:55 PM

Random: I went to Mexico last year brang out my guitar and a group of Mexicans came up and said "Hotel California" in broken english. So apparently it was real big down there.

Eagles bore me though.

Badmoon 12-17-2004 06:56 PM

I like The Eagles.

magicbus 12-17-2004 07:07 PM

I like The Eagles. Don Henley is an amazing singer.

B0nz0 12-17-2004 07:13 PM

sorry boys, i had to go take a final
but i'm back. and try not to bash the eagles. I'm a huge joe walsh fan. they were kind of soft and some of their songs irritate me (lyin' eyes). but overrall i think they are quite good. and u can't knock hotel california. take it easy and life in the fast lane are also great. on the lesser known side i'm a big fan of pretty maids all in a row, in the city, and victim of love. already gone is good too and i like take it to the limit.

so what else has been up boys and girls?

B0nz0 12-17-2004 07:15 PM
Your thread, B0nzo, is just about the only reason i come online anymore.

You have given me a meaning to life!

Whats best about three chord rock isnt only it sounds great, buts easy to play and cover most importantly. Seriously, you could learn 20 3-chord songs in a day. Now thats forgiving to musicians like me
thank you thank you, and yes thank god for three chord songs or learning to play would really suck

Woodstock 12-17-2004 07:15 PM

Well, I love Joe Walsh, I just dont like the Eagles.
