I'd like to understand your concept of "checking out".

I mean, obviously you need to listen to an album to say something sucks,b because basing your "it sucks gur gur" in single songs is a bit idiotic and would change my perception of you being evil.

checking out would be downloading and listening to an album, unless it's such unmitigated garbage that I can't finish the whole thing.

i am the robots 07-21-2007 11:23 AM

Hbp, get Morbid Visions.

Stoic 07-21-2007 01:20 PM

Checking out:
1. Listen to a couple of songs or 3-4 short samples.
2. If they're mindblowing and make me want to go back and listen to them again I'll get the album.

In general, I have short attention span and tend to judge material in a rushed manner. It has to be REALLY good and get me hooked from the first moment or else I won't bother with it.

Poofy 666 07-21-2007 01:35 PM

Yeah, thats what I usually do.

I'm often told that this way is unreliable and I may miss albums that gradually grow on you. But I really don't feel like putting much effort on material that doesn't impress me from the start. I used to try more a few years back but now there's so much music available that I've given up.

Poofy 666 07-21-2007 01:43 PM

I just read alot of reviews and then just see if they have some free mp3s and if I like that I just download the album.
If anything, Meshuggah deserves nothing but insults because now we have a bunch of poopty metalcore bands trying to be all meshuggahcore with their poopty polyrhythms and lack of anything that's actually interesting.

WHy bother playing 4/4 with your hands and 39/16 with your feet if you can't even write one solid hook. Seriously.
i couldn't agree more.

Why, is it as hard as it sounds? :p My favourite song by SoP.

Poofy 666 07-21-2007 02:41 PM

Harder actually :( Its just ridiculous.

Yeah, its my favorite too. I really like Scorched and Church of Deviance as well.

Dimmu Burger 07-21-2007 05:57 PM

I don't think Ive heard any band do crazy time signatures and have catchy songs at the same time. You could enlighten me if you know of one.

that's probably why you are drawn to flashy but ultimately hollow and sterile technical crud instead of meaningful old school death metal eliteness.

Tyler 07-21-2007 06:54 PM

You have such a way with words.

Dargon II 07-21-2007 06:55 PM

ty ty

anyways Stoic, did you ever find any of the albums I recommended you? you've haven't replied to my e-mail

EDIT: never mind I saw your post in thrash thread

speaking of old school death metal eliteness
NP: Pestilence: The Secrecies of Horror

Dargon II 07-21-2007 07:08 PM

Testimonies of the Ancients is alright, far too much progressive faggotry thrown in for my liking. That song is probably the best on it.

FatalEnergy 07-21-2007 07:11 PM

Nothing beats Out of the Body. I never got into Testimonies of the Ancients. For technical stuff I'd always just take Piece of Time over anything else.

yes i can see where that would get old for some, although i found it quite to my liking.

never heard it but i'll check it out now. and as for Piece of Time yes it is very good but while we're on the subject, Focus destroys it.

hahaha, and also no, not at all.

Angmar 07-21-2007 07:48 PM

Atheist>Cynic

there I said it :D

TojesDolan 07-21-2007 07:49 PM

Atheist tries to hard to blend jazz with their death metals.

Cynic, on the other hand, does different kind of metal which is somewhat refreshing.

I must point out refreshing may not always be considered good, so whatever.

i love pieces of time.

Angmar 07-21-2007 08:14 PM

Unquestionable Presence is my fav. But Elements and Piece of Time also rule.

LifeInABox 07-21-2007 08:33 PM

Pieces Of Time?

Charizard 07-21-2007 08:35 PM

Elements is elite.

Angmar 07-21-2007 08:36 PM

He meant Piece of Time, the Atheist album.

Elements is elite.
