Roger wrote San Tropez I believe. I also love Rick. Us and Them, Great Gig in the Sky, Remember a Day, Wearing the Inside Out...

What a gun.

Collis 07-19-2006 03:41 AM

I just absolutely adore Us and Them, the sax solo is kinda orgasmic :thumb:. Probably my fave song on DSOTM actually, with Great Gig In The Sky closely following ... actually, when I was on a field trip in Swansea last week I saw a guy who looked remarkably similar to Rick Wright ...

FatalEnergy 07-19-2006 10:03 AM

I just heard High Hopes for the first time. That's a killer song.

Remember A Day is like my favorite Floyd song.

Props to Rick

Why do all the members of Pink Floyd have such similar voices..?

I can never tell who is singing...

Waters and Gilmour have two very different voices, and Wright is like a mix between Waters and Gilmour... So Wrights voice always confuses me.

Hamilcar 07-19-2006 09:17 PM

Vinyl pickups of the day... Saucerful of Secrets, Animals, Atom Heart Mother...thank you random record shop in NYC!! They also had an original pressing mint condition Piper at the Gates of Dawn, but were selling it for $65 and I didn't have the money. Oh well

Riva 07-19-2006 10:56 PM

Listen to Corporal Clegg or Dogs to here the difference between Waters and Gilmour.

Wright sounds a bit like Barrett, but you can pick out the difference.

Hey You and Comfortably Numb would also be good choices. Their voices became more distinct the older they got.

Riva 07-21-2006 01:10 AM

That's true. Gilmour's kept his voice, but Roger has really lost his, if Live8 was anything to go by.

Dragon_Prince 07-21-2006 01:47 AM

@Riva, Gilmour lost it too ;) it's a shame, he hasn't lost it completely but some of it, heard a few mistakes on his singing in may ... But he was still great

BigTrav415 07-21-2006 02:53 PM

Gilmour has a larger vocal range than Waters, but almost always sung in a softer, almost swoony vox. Waters' voice has always had more of a "bite" to it, even when singing softly. It's harder and more solid than Gilmour's for the most part. Wright has a very deep, throaty voice in all truth, coupled with the British accent it's great. PF's at their best when Gilmour and Wright sing in harmony (i.e. Echoes), their voices meld perfectly.

I was at Target the other day recently after PULSE came out (I'm at camp, it was a quick run to-and-back), but they were OUT! :( And it was so cheap... :upset:

I got The Blues Brothers instead though :D Killer movie...

So True, I love it.

Riva 07-22-2006 05:32 PM

Very cool movie.

Has anyone heard Wright's solo work? I love it.

Prince of Darkness 07-22-2006 05:35 PM

haha, The Live8 gig is pretty good, but Waters' voice is gone. Too bad.

but he's an idiot. yet, a music mastermind.

The P.U.L.S.E. dvd is hella good. worth the buy.

Jim 07-23-2006 02:40 AM

I also put in a P*U*L*S*E DVD recommendation to anyone who hasn't got it yet. Some of the performances are sheer class. Plenty of Division Bell stuff too, which I like.

rippa32 07-23-2006 04:13 AM

In the first part of Echoes I know Gilmour and Wright sing in harmony. I know its these two because thats who is singing on the Live At Pompeii clip. But who is doing the higher pitch part?

He's made two solo albums so far. The first one was done in '78 called Wet Dream. I actually saw this in a record shop in NYC, but didn't have the money to buy it after all the other records I was getting. Apparently people say it's rather mediocre. The other one he did is called Broken China, and that was made in '96 I think...at least somewhere around there. That one was pretty good according to the reviews. Both of these records are pretty rare as I've only seen the first one on vinyl and neither of them on cd.

Probally Gilmour. Gilmour has the highest vocal range of any of the band members, and Wrights voice is very deep.

He has also done a collaboration with some other guy, which was named Zee. The only album spawned from that collaboration was Identity, released somewhere in the '80s. I have however not yet heard it, nor have I heard his other solo-outings. If anyone who haves it wants to send it out, that'd be greatly appreciated.
Oh, and the albums are not that rare, just not as common as other Floyd albums. I see Wet Dream being sold on e-bay every once in a while, but have not yet purchased it. :)

On the studio version, Wright is singing the higher pitch. It's a bit hard to tell since they are both singing pretty high.
I know for sure that Wright is singing the higher pitch on Live at Pompeii.
On the Prism bootleg that many of you have, Gilmour is singing the higher pitch.

Mr. Black 07-23-2006 03:14 PM

I lent Final Cut today, I have yet to listen to it.

I leant it to a friend about a week ago. He didn't like it. :(

I love it though. Something about the "Roger" stuff appeals to me. I always find myself listening to Animals, The Wall and The Final Cut more than the rest.

Mr. Black 07-24-2006 04:26 AM

I listen to WYWH far more than any other Floyd album.

Np - Welcome To The Machine.

BigTrav415 07-24-2006 01:24 PM

My WYWH phase might have even been longer than my DSotM phase, which was truely prodigious in its length and intensity, now that I think about it. I'm not really in a phase for any album right now, except maybe Europe '72 by the Grateful Dead. All of my Pink Floyd album phases can be noted historically for their sheer power over my mind and the severe psychological problems they caused which I still carry with me today.

I knooooow you rider, gonna miss me when I'm goooooooone

Oh god, save me from the Dead :(

Hey, erm is The Grateful Dead (Skulls and Roses) a Compilation album?

Np- Stones - Sympathy For The Devil

Yea it is, "Dead Head".

Riva 07-24-2006 06:53 PM

I probably listen to Obscured By Clouds and Wish You Were Here more than any other Pink Floyd album, but I really love the aura Roger lent to his "domineering albums", like Animals, The Wall and The Final Cut. Maybe it was worth him being such an arse...

Lunch 07-24-2006 07:04 PM

Hijack and turn into Grateful Dead thread.

Trav, it's impossible to get away from the Dead. They just keep suck you in and next thing you know you can't stop buying their live albums (DPs 4, 16, 29 and 36 are on their way to me as we speak).

Riva 07-24-2006 07:14 PM

Ah. Well, I've always liked the Dead. Never been a Dead Head though.

Danger Bird 07-24-2006 08:38 PM

I saw Pulse on VH1 at like 1 in the morning a few nights ago, anybody else?

I would like to be a deadhead but I'm not, and I think you have to have been to a dead show to be a deadhead, and it's too late now.

Mr. Black 07-25-2006 06:07 AM

I think I've listened to Meddle more than any. I think because I was so affected by Live at Pompeii. One of the most amazing performances I've ever seen. After that it would have to be WUWH.
