na i like lonely day. its songs like stealing society that piss me off, where daron sounds really shi*tilly punky. but yeah, the self-titled is truly brilliant. Know is such a great song! and sugar too.

NymphetamineX 03-25-2006 10:42 AM

Psycho groupie cocaine crazy? Makes you high, makes you high?

I love how random their old stuff is. But, Lonely Day and Lost in Hollywood are incredibly kick-*** songs.

Rattlehead 03-25-2006 10:46 AM

i agree.
yea lol, like for example off of the self-titled album(cant remember the song name) there's a well random lyric: "books all say different things while people flap their yellow wings" - i think it's Know.

Rattlehead 03-25-2006 01:11 PM

for some reason my itunes messed up and put "**** the system" on the on Toxicity. what is its correct album?

Senator Screw You 03-25-2006 02:17 PM

^^ Steal This Album

I think Serj and Daron harmonise beautifully.
But if Daron is left for too long on his own he may do some damage.

mutant! 03-25-2006 06:00 PM

^ I would just like to add my 2c (again  ) about Daron's voice. His voice is typical pop-punk fare. He could have done well in Blink 182. *However*, given SOAD's penchant for ridiculing mass markets and pop culture, it's suitably ironic. So it's a sh1te (lead) voice but in context, it works from an artistic point of view.

And yes, Serj and Daron's voices are perfectly suited for harmony.

!MuDvAyNiAn! 03-25-2006 06:03 PM
absolutely, but i thinks he was saying that serj is unique. and he has certain vocal skills that few others can rival.
exactly, thanks mate

Rattlehead 03-26-2006 06:48 AM
exactly, thanks mate
no probs!

this is the truth. they do harmonise well, and yes daron should remain a backing singer.

ur right about the punkyness. ive said it b4, and ill say it again: Stealing Society is a perfect example of it. i feel like slapping him when i hear that punky rap.

2muchket! 03-26-2006 09:02 AM

Stealing Society is a good example of how daron and serj can harmonise well too.

Rattlehead 03-26-2006 09:26 AM

except for the part when daron is the only one singing, which is a perfect example of where daron oversteps the mark.

!MuDvAyNiAn! 03-26-2006 09:55 AM

why did they decide to have daron sing alot?

Rattlehead 03-26-2006 10:13 AM

to experiment? i'd have thought they might think it would get them more "popular with the girls", as daron has quite a sissy voice. i must have been what got them on the radio. it just depends on whether they want to please more of their true fans(metalheads/us) with serj, or rake in more cash with the publicity of daron's voice.

mutant! 03-26-2006 11:51 AM
why did they decide to have daron sing alot?
He wrote a lot of the lyrics. He went through a very difficult time, I forget why; possibly to do with the US invasion of Iraq (don't quote me on that). He was channeling a lot of anger and other emotions into his music and Serj felt it would be wrong for him to try and generate those emotions just for the sake of singing the songs. So he let Daron step forward. Serj has no issues with that. He just plays more keys/guitar nowadays. Gotta love Question!

Rattlehead 03-26-2006 01:00 PM

that's interesting. did he feel strongly about the iraq war? and yea question is cool. strange melody at the beginning, but cool

purgatory 03-26-2006 01:51 PM

I think the majority of the US has a problem with us being in Iraq. I think that making an album about it is pointless. They aren't telling us anything we don't know. Unless they are talking to the retards of the world who don't watch the news lol.

mutant! 03-26-2006 02:21 PM

^ Art is expression, not information. They're expressing their feelings about the war, not informing us there was one. If you say making an album about a war everyone knows about anyways is pointless, then you are blatantly stating art is pointless; which is a double-edged sword, since you obviously are an artist yourself, seeing as how you are a member of an online forum dedicated to the creation of music. Noob.

Question! is liek teh coolest EVAR. About two weeks before Mezmerise came out, I discovered a CD my dad owned by this SA band who play this mix of jazz, Brazilian, African and other music. I was absorbed by the music. Then Question! came along and took what that band plays and added metal guitars. I creamed my pants.

Rattlehead 03-27-2006 02:13 AM

dont call people noobs please, allthough you made a good point, their lack of posts in no way relates to their mental capacity, so don't insult it. :thumb:

soldier side from hypnotise is so much greater than the mezmerize version. i love that song.

has anyone heard their extra songs? like Defied you, Marijuana In Your Brain(spinny sh*t), Marmalade, Starlit Eyes, Storage and Temper? they own.

Rattlehead 03-27-2006 09:28 AM

OMG i just heard the SOAD cover for sabbath's snowblind, its amazing. some people might have a problem with how much they changed it, but i really liked it. Serj's voice is great in it.

Senator Screw You 03-27-2006 09:51 AM

WOW!!! SNOWBLIND!!! I must listen.

Rattlehead 03-27-2006 10:27 AM

i know, sabbath rule. someone has to revive the thread. but yea if you're a religious sabbath maniac, be warned that the SOAD cover is quite a contrast. i got it off limewire.

!MuDvAyNiAn! 03-27-2006 11:00 AM

did u jsut type in system of a down? or what? i need to hear that, sabbath rock!!

Rattlehead 03-27-2006 11:13 AM

they sure do.

someone on this thread a while ago suggested Marmalade as a good SOAD song that isn't on any particular album. i put "artist: system of a down, title: marmalade" and it came up with a load of other songs that are albumless. and snowblind.

!MuDvAyNiAn! 03-27-2006 12:28 PM

just done it and heard it, amazing!:)

Rattlehead 03-27-2006 02:11 PM

glad u like it, i did. good stuff.

!MuDvAyNiAn! 03-27-2006 02:14 PM

do u know if "soad - shame" is suppose 2 ft. wu-tang clan?

mutant! 03-27-2006 02:49 PM

@!MuDvAyNiAn!: yes. Awesome song, amirite?
dont call people noobs please, allthough you made a good point, their lack of posts in no way relates to their mental capacity, so don't insult it. :thumb:
I was calling him a noob on the basis of his post. I didn't even look at his post count before you mentioned it now. He's a noob at life.
has anyone heard their extra songs? like Defied you, Marijuana In Your Brain(spinny sh*t), Marmalade, Starlit Eyes, Storage and Temper? they own.
I have (or rather, had) a **lot** of SOAD B-sides. Temper kicks AASHCSSCHHH; so does Marmalade and Storage. There's others too, I can't remember. You realise however that a lot of their B-sides were later renamed and released on STA?

Cartman 03-27-2006 03:01 PM
they sure do.

Am downloading it right now, ill tell you what I think of the song as soon as ill listen to it, I hope its as good as the Sabbath one :)
anyway am off to bed, goodnight everyone..

New name Spiraldown 03-28-2006 03:07 AM

Its cool I heard it ages ago but its still good.

Rattlehead 03-28-2006 03:17 AM

dont compare it to the original; i heard it and thought it must have been a soad song called snowblind. its totally different, except for the chords. i ca respect it for more than a cover, ita so different.

Lord Sabbath 03-28-2006 02:47 PM

i gotta hear that. SOAD rock. \m/

!MuDvAyNiAn! 03-29-2006 09:59 AM

I dunno about "shame" not to keen on it tbh. Tentative from mezmerize is an amzing song! I can't stop listenin 2 it

Rattlehead 03-29-2006 11:15 AM

tbh?
and i didnt know tentative was on mezmerize..? well, its not on mine.

!MuDvAyNiAn! 03-29-2006 12:15 PM

i meant hypnotize lol. to be honest..:)

purgatory 03-29-2006 12:19 PM

I still have yet to buy this album. Any good?

Rattlehead 03-29-2006 12:25 PM

i love it. its got a couple of soft songs, but the others are great. i really enjoy Lonely Day, that's a soft one. but if you dont like daron's voice you wont like some songs, like Stealing Society.
i meant hypnotize lol. to be honest..:)
cooll cheers.

!MuDvAyNiAn! 03-29-2006 12:32 PM

its a decent album, not as good as toxicity, soad etc, but still pretty good. tentative might be my fav soad song at the moment

Rattlehead 03-29-2006 03:49 PM

there hasn't been much publicity with Hypnotize... not like with mezmerize.

!MuDvAyNiAn! 03-29-2006 03:59 PM

yea true. IMO i think mezmerize was the better out of the 2, i dont really listen to hypnotize much

Mambuto_O'Mally 03-29-2006 06:11 PM

Honestly, Mezmerize is shit compared to Hypnotize. They both aren't the best, Hypnotize just sucked less. I think they should have just released one CD. It would have definately kicked ass.

EDIT - You can't say ass? what the hell

mudvayne420 03-29-2006 08:02 PM

I think Mez/Hyp. was their best, but i don't like the reminesce of soldier side intro in the end of lonely day that they could've done without.
