Chris: Sh!t dang.. Bad news mate. Sorry to hear that.

Diatonic Dissonance™ 02-27-2006 08:30 PM

Chris omg i have gossip for you. emessen

Diatonic Dissonance™ 03-01-2006 01:43 AM

I have officially been set a challenge from my music class.

The school record is 98% on a grade five test. I'm going for higher than that.

I reckon I can do 100% grade six (I have until the end of next year). What do you think? Grade six is counterpoint I think. Woo.

Aes820 03-01-2006 02:06 AM

I just bought a new digital camera... She's a flash one ay.

Trigger_003 03-01-2006 02:09 AM

Woah, jeez Chris
Far out, that's horrible :(.
EDIT: (that was to Moaner). What kinda camera Aes?

Nah Amit I haven't - no time at the moment.

wtf are you busy with

arent you in high school

Trigger_003 03-01-2006 03:16 PM

Yeah, but I'm in the final years of high school so it's getting to the stage where I'm doing 2.30/3 hours study a night, at least 1:30 trombone, along with trying to fit guitar in. Plus one of my bands has loads of gigs at the moment. I've hardly had any time online at all lately.
But holidays are coming up in a bit more than a week - I'll probably get it then :).

How's college treating you?

Atomic Rain 03-01-2006 04:04 PM

When I was about your age I got an entire spread of As and A*s and I only revised during the easter holiday before my exams and during study leave

Aes820 03-01-2006 04:13 PM

When I was about Trea's age I'd take off from school every afternoon and skate.

I'd go alright in the classes that I actually liked. But most of the time it was C - Bs.

Trigger_003 03-02-2006 12:10 AM

Haha, yeah, a lot of people are like "What the heck? Why do YOU need to study?"
I'm pretty much a straight A's student and was without all the study, but I don't trust my school results in comparison to the rest of the state. A lot of people who are up around the A mark at my school end up with bad ENTER and Study Scores because they've fallen into the false sense of security that they are going to get where they want to just because of their high in-school results.
I don't know of anyone else at my school that studies when they don't need to... maybe this one guy... it's not exactly a stimulated environment.

But hey, I get out, I party, I surf, I jam - it's not like all I do is sit at home with books (I couldn't stand that).

So what's going on with everyone these days?
Haha, we did this really crazy thing in linguistics today... I'll go and scan it for you guys.

Aes820 03-02-2006 01:19 AM

I think you remind me a bit like my good mate Al.

He parties alot, he surfs alot, and would never let study get in the way of an excuse for a social occasion.
But he's a smart one, he Duxed right through school and college and honoured Uni. Now he's doing Telecommunication Engineering. So he's doing alright for himself. I'm sure you will too, Trea.

Trigger_003 03-02-2006 01:58 AM

Hehe thanks Chris :)

Still loving work as much as you were? What are you working on these days?

Aes820 03-02-2006 02:37 AM

Yeah mate. Work is great.

We've got another scheduled update for the youthweek site happening tomorrow.
And I've been setting up some more online voting stuff for that site as well, but that's not going to go live until mid April. But it's always handy to be prepared.

The other week I made up some Dreamweaver templates for external document conversion people to use. Like they take a printed document, html it and put it into these templates. We got a report that had had this done to it back today. I gave it a check and it looks alright. A couple of very minor issues, but I'll be able to publish that online tomorrow.
It's not going to pass full accessability testing, but it will pass all Priority 1s (the important ones) and most Priority 2s. So we're happy.

I met back up again with another design company lot who are also going to be doing some document conversion for us earlier this week. But they are starting from scratch, they arn't going to use my templates. They showed us their ideas and they sound good, so I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with.

We made some mods to a search engine of ours. Out main Internet site uses a Verity search engine. And we wanted to make it look more like 'ours' instead of the stock standard 'Ultraseek v3.5' results page.
So that really just involved whacking a few div tags in amongst the python code and letting css handle it all. But it's just amazing all the hoops we have to jump through to get these little changes implemented.

We're setting up a website that's due to replace a couple of ones that we've currently got and that's just ticking along slowly. But it has to all done by June, as it's actually a little part to a bigger response plan for this whole Bird Flu thing that's going on. Most of the hard stuff is done tho, so we'll get there easilly.

There's lots of other little projects as well.
Although there is some bigger things in the pipeline that's due to come up later this year.
And judging by what is coming up, I guess we can call now the 'quiet time'.

Exciting. Fun.. :)

10th man down 03-02-2006 02:51 AM

Damn my life is boring!

AES, if you have time could you tell me a little bit about the process of getting into your line of work? Y'know, web shizzle, ect...

Aes820 03-03-2006 06:34 AM

I did a Design course at tech. Then a multimedia diploma course.
Both of these courses were really very easy but they both gave me a bit of paper that I was able to use towards a resume.
With those two bits of paper, the hardest part then was getting experience.
I guess no-one is all that keen to take on a newb.
But I signed up to an IT contracting company, stayed on good terms with them, and they got me into doing 3-4 years or so worth of 6 months contracts working on various projects. Starting off small and building up, you know?

Now I like to think that I'm handeling much bigger projects.

But I think that once you're in, you're set.The hardest bit is to actually get in and get started.

But just provided that you're good at what you do and that you're up to speed with current standards and guidelines you'll be right.

I think that if you are in an interview situation and you really have to sell yourself, reassure them that not only can you make a functional and useful product but also with a high level of useability and accessability.

Like, Sure I work with websites. But the purpose of a website is to communicate a message. And that message should come first and foremost.

Atomic Rain 03-03-2006 05:08 PM

Good news!

My friend Tom (the one who was in the accident)'s shoulders have been twitching after like, 12 hours of surgery.

There's also an operation scheduled on his pelvis i think, but whether that means there's a chance of him regaining some leg movement or they're just sorting out the bones down there i don't know.

Interesting, thanks for that. :)

Trigger_003 03-04-2006 03:10 AM

Good stuff, Amit - thanks :). It's really my second last year, but some of my subjects are at a last year standard meaning I have to work hard anyway.

Yeah it'd be great to have a chat with you.

10th: What Chris says about work in the IT industry is quite true - a lot of people don't want to take on a new kid. Having some sort of degree or diploma really helps, and experience is just, if not more, important. Try to get some work experience in while you're at school (/hopes you're still at school), and go for any IT based opportunities you can get as well (for instance, when you were in year ten, you could've gone for a Fellowship - getting one of those gets you a grant, great experience, and seeing only 36 people get them, looks great on your resume). Designing sites for people - even for free - is a great asset too.
But as a lot of people will tell you, make yourself interesting and don't get bogged down soley by computers. Like, be good at IT, but don't make it the only thing in your life that you can put on a CV, you know? Showing that you're a good person in a range of aspects will get you a job that some nerd with the same qualifications (or maybe even some slightly better ones) as you won't... depends on the employer of course, but this tends to be the case.

Got a lot happening there, Chris - sounds great!

And that's awesome news about your mate Tom (other Chris). I hope he's alright in the end.

Diatonic Dissonance™ 03-04-2006 03:32 AM

Ugh, this is depressing.

Sitting here on the computer on a Saturday night. I feel like crap for not doing something.

The problem was by the time I got back from gym it was like 8pm so it was too late to organise anything. FFS.

Sup all?

10th man down 03-04-2006 03:47 AM

I'm going to go play guitar soon. :)

How's things with you Gav?

Diatonic Dissonance™ 03-04-2006 04:02 AM

Yeah not bad.

I've pulled a muscle near my ribs. Like around where the serratus anterior is.

Not fair .

You?

10th man down 03-04-2006 04:10 AM

Yeah, I'm good. Looking forward to getting my Nightwish concert video in the mail next week and my CFH DVD's came too. :)

I'm also saving money, I got $400 so far.

Pulling a muscle sucks man, I hope you're feeling better soon.

Diatonic Dissonance™ 03-04-2006 04:27 AM

It ruined my gym session :'(.

Trigger_003 03-04-2006 03:48 PM

Aww dood, that's no fun :(

I'd been out partying all day so I didn't really feel too bad about being home last night.
Man, so many gigs happening these holidays because of the Games. We might also be playing on the very last leg of the baton relay - pretty high-profile stuff .

You doin' much for the holidays you other Viccy's?

kevbud187 03-06-2006 12:12 AM

sup thread?

Anyone ever herd Gustav Mahler's Symphony No.1 in D Major?
Cal State Long Beach performed it last night.
It was alright.. THe Marimba Concertino by Paul Creston was much more entertaining.

I think that anyone in an string orchestra would give an excellent handjob. DOes anyone else think so?

wow. you all must hate me. gnight.

Trigger_003 03-06-2006 01:58 AM

Lol, drunk, amirite?

Diatonic Dissonance™ 03-06-2006 02:45 AM

Let us not have this thread degenerate into something like the 'Lod did please.

Trigger_003 03-06-2006 10:54 PM

That would be tragic.

Sup fr-
oh, wait...

Ah man, weather says he/she/it'll be raining for Moomba and possibly for the opening ceremony of the Games.
And I'll be gigging in it.
/hopes weather is wrong

Anyone else got many gigs coming up?

Diatonic Dissonance™ 03-07-2006 01:05 AM

It is usually.

Anyway I can't believe it. I finally had an epiphany regarding homework - a negative one. The cliche'd stereotypical teenage view on homework and I can't believe it.

Trigger_003 03-07-2006 01:20 AM

Oh, my, god! That is like, so, totally un-cool man.
What homework was it?

Musical psychology - join me

Diatonic Dissonance™ 03-07-2006 01:53 AM

Nah just homework in general, haha.

Trigger_003 03-07-2006 02:09 AM

Lol, fair enough.
Hmm, I should probably go study for my physics SAC...

Holidays next week!

Aes820 03-07-2006 02:25 AM

Eh.. I never did my homework.
*shrugs*

I just realised something.
This girl I work with. She's about my age, quite pretty, a very nice girl (her sister is an absolute stunner as well).
But I was sure that the first I had ever met her was when I started working where I am.
But just now it has suddenly clicked..I know this girl, i went to college with her, she was in my year. I even think we had a physics class together.
Small world.

Nice post Trea. If I could rep you again i would.

Trigger_003 03-07-2006 02:45 AM

Awesome. It's crazy how things happen like that eh?
I just realised the other day that the girl working at the chicken shop we go to a lot (my sis likes their 'slaw) was in my class at primary school.

How's it going Chris? Looked at any theory yet?

Aes820 03-07-2006 02:51 AM

Things are good Trea.

I'm still active at work.
We had a bit of a crisis today... Someone (not me - honest) accidentally overwrote a csv file with about two months (several thousand entries) of data in it, with another one that was blank.
So that's gone now... Some IT people are seeing if they can restore from last nights tape backup, so here's hoping it's not a full write off.
Kinda funny tho.

I haven't been playing much guitar recently. To be honest.
I just havent had much spare time.
So I haven't even looked into any theory. I'm still scared of it.
But I did pick up the acoustic for a few moments last night and tried to have a go at learning this:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2246852135843298436
I got most of the way through the chorus section.
And that version of it actually makes an otherwise horrible song actually worth learning.

How are you?
