I should have no trouble getting CD's I live in a small popular town, it has 6 major music stores on one street and I can order anything pretty much.. Also I have 3 record style shops that have Vinyls/Singles/Bootleg CD's/ Also Original CD's for cheaper...
Of course if I still cannot get it I have the internet :thumb:
All Dream Theater kicks ***, so I would just pick up any album randomly. A Change Of Seasons is amazing. Its an EP, check it out NOW! |
Does anyone know how long a Gigantour show lasts?
|
probably all day, like noon to nine at night or something
|
It's about 7 hours if there's only one stage and they're going to have all the bands for both stages playing, so it'll probably go from 3PM till 10PM.
|
Do you think they would play til midnight? Mine starts at 5 PM.
Actually I might miss the crappier 2nd stage bands. |
I've had a weird Dream Theater occurance, and I'm hoping someone can shed some light on my dilemma. Here goes....
When an album comes out, most of the time I download a few songs and decide whether I like it or not. If I like what I hear, I'll go buy the album. So the day Octavarium came out, I downloaded all 8 songs from the album. I really liked it so just recently I went out and bought the album. Here's the dilemma.... The songs that I downloaded and the songs on the album are in no way the same. Completely different! The songs that I downloaded are all labeled the same as the album tracks. I also know that these mystery songs that I downloaded are studio recorded and very recent. The songs are very heavy like Train of Thought, and La Brie's voice sounds very recent. I know they're new songs because I have all of DT's previous albums. Can someone please tell me what I'm listening to! Thanks.
Speaking of Octavarium, whats it like? Is it heavy like ToT or heavy but different like Awake or something completely different? |
Hey, I got some money and am thinking of getting a Dream Theater DVD.. (Or do they only have one? :p)
And I'm wondering if say John Petrucci has an instructional guitar DVD? If so, is it worth it? |
Hey, I got some money and am thinking of getting a Dream Theater DVD.. (Or do they only have one? )

JP does have an instructional out called Rock Discipline. Many say its very good, I personally don't think its all that great. You can find it in 4 parts on Limewire if you don't want to blow the $50 on it, and its got a book form too.
Speaking of Octavarium, whats it like? I'll look for the download tonight, but I wanna buy a Live DVD, so which one do you guys think is the best? I prefer Awake and Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, so if either of the DVDs are for those tours, or just include alot from those albums, cool :) |

The show is shot and edited excellently. The set contains a large amount from Train of Thought and 6DIOT (although little from Awake), but I would reccomend that as being the best. Live Scenes From New York has some excellent material on it, and is still great, but is very poorly edited, with lots of silly camera effects and cut scenes relating to the SFAM story. Also the DVD doesn't contain the full set of their performance, I'd recommend getting the live CD of the concert before the DVD. The double disc set is also good. The Tokyo concert from the I&W tour is great, just to see how the band have evolved, and very entertaining seeing how they used to look like an 80s hair metal band (plus you get to see John Myung running round the stage and headbanging!) The second disc is a montage of footage from between Awake and Falling Into Infinity. Some of the footage is quite good, others aren't so great. I'm not a huge fan of this era of DT so I didn't enjoy it as much as the others, but is still worth getting eventually. |
I think I'm the only person on here who likes Falling Into Infinity. :-/
As for album suggestions, I suggest Awake. You may not like it at first, but once it clicks with you, you will love it.
Tails who is that babe in your avatar?? sorry im sure you've been asked alot. oh yeh and i just budokan and it is stunning... top 5 dvds i own |

What are these guys, Heavy Metal?
|
Was gonna buy a big 3 disc CD Today, but I Thought I'd consult here first before partin with ma cash.
|
Little bit of everything.
I think they're classes as progressive metal, but I think they do more progressive rock... Awake, Train of Thought, A Change of Seasons, and maybe Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence are their heavier albums, in my opinion. I might mention Images & Words here, I think it's pretty good. While definately not heavy, it has a metal-vibe I think. Some people would say Scenes From a Memory though.. But meh, and Octavarium had/has potential, but in my mind something just doesn't click. Not really sure about When Day and Dream Unite or Falling Into Infinity (Are they the names of the other albums? Or are there more?), meh, I listed only what I have heard and my opinion on them... |
ok thanks man
|
For starters on Dream Theater, either get SDOIT or Train of Thought. They happen to be the most heavier songs that DT has wrote, but they're all good. The first DT album I purchased was Awake, which has it's great elements to it, without Rudess :)
|
Rudess is such a wanker.

If you are into their heavier side, get train of thought |
I bought 6 Degrees a little while ago, and I love the first cd a lot. Every song on their is classic IMO. But man was I disappointed by the title track. I guess the music was ok(the thing I don't like is how it sounds so positive all the time when the other cd had more of a negative feel..), but man the lyrics were so bad and ruined it for me... I guess I was expecting something more like A Change In Seasons... oh well, the first cd is still great.

yeah i was dissapointed with the song '6 degrees...'... especially in 'About to crash': ('I'm alive again, the darkness far behind me, i'm invincible, despair will never find me'). the way Labrie sings it makes you want to go 'STFU!!' i liked the overture of the song though. |
Yeah the first part was pretty cool... but once the vocals come in, it just gets bad.
|
The best part of six degrees (song) is probably the Goodnight kiss solo.
The best part of the album is The Glass Prison |
I was just listening to their version of "Oh Holy Night"
And i think i have never heard something more beautiful and spiritually awakening. |
Has the Gigantour started yet? if so, was Dream Theater any good
|
yes, it has started, a few pages back there is a review someone did one gigantour, it sounded great to me :)
but I'll be seeing DT in the fall probably, and I;ve seen them a month ago, so :D |
I saw them last night and I was a little bit disapointed. Petrucci was turned up so loud that the speakers were overdriven. It hurt my ears on some notes and it drowned out the music. But if it was equalized better it would have been a flawless show. Hopefully they'll get it worked out for the other shows.
|
Seeing them in 3 more days. I only have the Scenes from a Memory CD. I need to go out and buy some more. They're a great band.
|
I need help, my friend gave me a Dream Theatre song but it was named wrong. It says it's from Octavairum. Anyway, the first line is:
"Ohhh, Take me to the oceans white sands, Ohhh where i can catch(?) myself" I really need to know what it's called. Thanks |
I just revently bought mt first Dream Theater Cd. I bought Octavarium. I had heard good things about this band, (Tool forum). So i thought that i'd give them a try. I enjoy them, they're faster stuff i prefer, but they're slow songs are less apealing to me, even though i'm much mroe for slower songs. Overall i give them 2 thumbs up :thumb: :thumb: and i'll be looking into getting more of their Cd's.

I am in the process of transcribing the lyrics to them and I was going to make a post about my find. I will still post the transcribed lyrics if anyone wants to check them out. You are right about them sounding more like Train of Thought and I wonder if they were supposed to be on it but got cut from the list. I dont think they are from any kind of new unreleased album they recorded for obvious reasons (the release of the actual Octavarium only a few months ago and they are currently on tour supporting it). Ironically I think these mystery songs are better than what I have heard from the actual album and I was really stoked about getting this awesome new DT release, that is, until I found out what Octavarium actually sounds like. |
its just james labries latest solo album, its old news
and its a crappy album, far too numetalish for my liking, but im kinda dissapointed with a few songs from octavarium, but the root of all evil, these walls, panic attack and octavarium are all really good, so they do the album justice |
Can anyone tell me what they think of my review of ToT?
Dream Theater- Train of Thought. ------- Dream Theater, whilst remaining first and foremost a very progressive band, released this album in October 2003. It is their heaviest work to date and is very guitar orientated. But Jordan Rudess's keyboard work on the album is awesome. While this is true, the real god on this album is John Petrucci. His guitar skills are reallty shown off on this album, every song has a blazing solo, which will disloacate even the most virtuositic of jaws. As I Am, the opener, is a brilliant opener to a brilliant album, with it's catchy chorus and rapped bridge, before Petrucci rips into a mind boggling solo. Before This Dying Soul's Machine Head style double bass intro, before the instrument section, which like every other on this album, will astonish you. Vacant is an affecting ballad in the style of such earlier Dream Theater songs as Wait for Sleep or Disappear. A quick warning to all guitarists. One listen to this album will make you realise what a clueless, fat-fingered dunce you really are. Sorry!
Cheers! :thumb: |

Jordan Rudess - Secrets Of The Muse
Anyone have it? If you do, do you love it as much as me? It's too good to be true. |
The Rudess Morganstein Project albums are awesome. I havent heard that but have all his albums with Dixie and they're awesome.

I never expected anything of this quality to come from James Labrie. I think it is much better than Octavarium (oh how I hate to say it) and I may even buy it. |
