I'm here. Here's an idea: It doesn't matter which album wins. They're both top 4, It's nice for your favorite album to win or whatever, but you guys are making an awfully big deal about it. I mean, honestly, if Pink Floyd wins because you made a bunch of people vote for the album that they wouldn't have normally voted for, Pink Floyd didn't really win, did they? Fanboys will be fanboys, just live with it and vote for what you want to win.

With that in mind, I think I'm voting DSOTM.

magicbus 02-06-2005 02:22 PM

I'm going to vote DSOTM.

mexicanfloydian 02-06-2005 04:01 PM
You cant find more? I saw it at Barnes&Noble last night.

I dunno about Smoking Blues either, I asked about it in the review, but the guy hasnt responded.
Really?? maybe it's because I live in a crappy place like El paso. At least I know they are still making it, I thought it was out of stock like garage days from metallica. Guess I'll have to buy it from internet.
Hey, check out this very quick recording I made of the 1st Comfortably Numb Solo on my acoustic.

It's really shltty pc microphone, and I only did one take, so meh.
Not too bad, I guess. Maybe I should give it a try now, just to see if I could do better than that. How long have you been playing?

Shazzam 02-06-2005 05:50 PM

4 months of Guitar

3rdplanet 02-06-2005 05:56 PM

Sorry if this is off topic, I don't think it is, but what do people think of The Division Bell and such albums without Waters in the band?

If I have the wrong info shoot me down with flaming, but it doesn't say he played with them on that album, and my friend unreliable friend said he left sometime, and they re-leased a lot of cash-in albums.

I don't like them album myself.

halfdeadhippo 02-06-2005 06:06 PM

I think that those albums are ok albums. Unfortunately, Gilmour isn't as good of a lyricist as Waters, in my opinion, and I dislike the sound of 80's synths, so they aren't exactly my all-time favorites.

3rdplanet 02-06-2005 06:24 PM

^ Yeah I have similar issues with them.

When I compare Animals to The Division Bell, there is no contest, Animals just completley destroys it.

Kingofdudes 02-06-2005 06:31 PM

I poop on MLoR.

But, The Division Bell is way underrated.

I will go into more detail later, food time.

Dr. Jake Destructo 02-06-2005 06:45 PM

Agreed with Gilmour. For me, MLoR is bad because it sounds like they were trying to fit in with the popular trends of the time. Then, when they returned with The Division Bell, it was back to the classic Pink Floyd sound. I like the Division Bell just as much as I like the other Pink Floyd albums I own. The insturmentals are just as genius as their golden days, but the lyrics are lacking. However, I don't really listen to music for the lyrics. If I did that, I could just read poetry. MLoR is their weakest release, at least from what I have heard.

:thumb: Not bad at all in that case.

pigonthewing82 02-06-2005 08:18 PM

i just heard "the nile song" for the first time today, i had no idea that pink floyd could be so heavy, i was supprised

Shazzam 02-06-2005 08:30 PM

yeah, I heard that one a couple of days ago too.

It's from the Final Cut, right?

pigonthewing82 02-06-2005 08:45 PM

um i dont think so, i heard it on relics, i dont know what cd its from

Kingofdudes 02-06-2005 08:46 PM

If it is on relics, then it could be a pre-PATGOD song

pigonthewing82 02-06-2005 08:49 PM

nah it says the song came out in 1969

Kingofdudes 02-06-2005 08:51 PM

Hmmm. Could be a non album single

Dr. Jake Destructo 02-06-2005 08:54 PM

What's the deal with Relics? I never hear anything about it, or More. Anybody have them?

Shazzam 02-06-2005 08:59 PM

More is a soundtrack to the movie More, my friend has it and I don't really think it's anything special.

pigonthewing82 02-06-2005 09:00 PM
Hmmm. Could be a non album single
i think thats probally it, i mean it wouldnt be the first track on the cd to be like that

Otherside 02-06-2005 09:07 PM

Nile song is off of More.

pigonthewing82 02-06-2005 09:13 PM
Nile song is off of More.
oh well i guess i should have guessed it would be on the only pink floyd cd i havent heard, thanks for solving the mystery

jimi hendrix the third 02-06-2005 10:58 PM

relics is a bunch of studio stuff that hadn't been realased yet. the first, two songs or so are from when syd barret was in the band. personally i dont like it that much. but then again was listining to it on record i didnt fell like getting up to change songs so i turned it off.

dUSK 02-07-2005 02:27 AM

Ok guys/girls if there are any, there's a Floyd Tribute show coming to Aus in March and I'm thinking about seeing it. It's call "Beyond the Darkside". Has anyone ever heard anything about this show, or seen it? If you know anything can you let me know whether it's worth the AU$80 it's going to cost.

Shazzam 02-07-2005 01:51 PM

Wish I lived there...

The Division Bell > Animals, in my opinion. I love The Division Bell. Never could really get into Animals too much.

weatherman123 02-07-2005 06:15 PM

theres a show in toronto next month called 'Comfortably Numb', or something to that effect
they put on all of The Wall, then all of Darkside
im gonna go see it, im very excited
there are a lot of floyd cover bands around here, my band included, but i would never have the balls to cover a full album...
has anyone done this?
also, i saw a band cover all of WYWH, and as much as they were amazing at it, i didnt think it should be covered, i guess i sort of consider it 'sacred'
thoughts?

DeusExMachina 02-07-2005 06:26 PM

I saw the Australian Pink Floyd do a show where they did all of DSOTM, then various other tracks. I thought it was great. I really have no problem with the idea of a cover band.

Otherside 02-07-2005 06:27 PM

Pink Floyd has alot more cover bands than any other band, which isn't really a bad thing.

3rdplanet 02-07-2005 06:35 PM
The Division Bell > Animals, in my opinion. I love The Division Bell. Never could really get into Animals too much.
hum, You have lead me to give The Division Bell another listening, as I must say I only played it from start to finish 4 or 5 times, and never got a good feel for it. Maybe it's a grower.

The only Pink Floyd Tribute band I know of is Think Floyd, never seen them, but they play a lot of gigs near to me, may go sometime.

magicbus 02-07-2005 06:38 PM
Pink Floyd has alot more cover bands than any other band, which isn't really a bad thing.
And most are really good, which isn't a bad thing either.

pigonthewing82 02-07-2005 07:24 PM

well its in my opinion that every pink floyd concert to come out after they broke up is a cover band

dUSK 02-07-2005 07:53 PM

You may have seen the band I'm thinking about seeing. Apparently they play 90mins of various Floyd songs, and then play DSOTM in it's entirity. I think I might go. :)

Dr. Jake Destructo 02-07-2005 08:13 PM

I would do it if I were you. It would definitely make my year if I got to see a Pink Floyd cover band. Hey Deus, did you see the Australian Pink Floyd in Seattle?

Can someone help me with the eq settings for the Comfortably Numb solo, plzthxbrb.

BludgeonySteve 02-07-2005 08:26 PM

That would be awesome .

I don't know if it would feel right though. It wouldn't be the real thing.

dUSK 02-08-2005 07:14 AM

UPDATE: I'm going to go see this tribute show, HeavyRiva apparently saw it last night and thought it was really good.

Dannyboy15 02-08-2005 07:22 AM

c'mon floyd fans support your band

It is a favourite album poll, not a favourite band poll. Don't vote an album just because you love the band *cough, Metallica*

Six Foot Revolver 02-08-2005 07:29 AM

I really don't want Metallica winning
