Sweet. Did you guys book the show yourselves, or was the show given to you by someone?
I've got a show this Friday, which should be pretty good. And we're playing one of the best venues in the city in 3 weeks. The thing everyone always mentions about this venue, not that I really care, but I suppose it's kind of cool, the Rolling Stones played there. I was stoked at a show I played a few weeks ago because it was at the last place At The Drive-In played in Toronto before they broke up.
we booked it ourselves, but know 2 of the other 3 bands playing, so it should be a good one. |

Good stuff. I'm going to see a local band in a couple weeks that I really want to play some shows with. The bassist in the band is actually a good friend of my brother, and he's come out to a couple of our shows. And he used to be in this really good band that, unfortunately, disbanded a few years ago. Hopefully this band starts playing a bunch of shows so we can gig together regularly. |

Hey, I like playing places where bands I love have played. It doesn't make me feel any connection to them or anything, it's just kind of cool.
|
Daddy got a new bass.
|
Cool. What bass?
I just dropped a pick under my couch and went to find it. I found 5 picks under there. |
I've got picks all over the floor and underneath chairs, couches, tables, etc; I figure when I run out I'll pick them up or something.
A USA Peavey Forum 5. It's basically what happens when you mix a Cirrus with a Stingray. |
going to our church practice room to jam with a friend after work tomorrow... should be interesting:naughty:
|
Gotta love spontaneous jam sessions.
I'm trying to convince my boss (he's 64) to break out one of his custom acoustic guitars and go play an open mic night with me on bass. He's into bluegrass, so I'll need to borrow an EUB (or buy that one on CL that I see made of carbon fiber for $500), but it could be fun. |
pardon my ignorance, but what is an EUB?
|
EUB = electric upright bass.
And the bass on Craigslist that I'm thinking of is actually a full-size upright, not electric. |
oh, okay.
would probably be better to have a proper upright...kinda defeats the purpose of having an upright IMO |
Jesse, when you see this: you're a crazy bastard, and I enjoyed putting away some beers with you yesterday.
|
oh, okay.
oh, okay.

I'm not even sure this situation warrants an EUB. I have a crappy Carlo Robelli 4-string acoustic bass that will probably work just fine. |
Yeah I don't expect I'll ever end up gigging on an upright but I'd like to have one just for the beauty of the instrument.
|
They are gorgeous instruments.
I'd have to donate sperm about 100 times to afford anything decent though (I'm assuming it's still $50. If they dropped it to $25....I'm screwed). |
Haha. $31 according to Reno 911.
I got this 20 litre bucket from a hardware store at the start of last year (important to note at this point that we are changing topic from sperm donations) and I cut a hole in the lid and taped it on tight, I've been saving money in there, like everything from 5c coins to $100 notes whenever I can spare the cash. It's not even an eighth full yet but when it is ripe for harvesting I'm hoping there will be enough in there to sponsor an upright bass and some other nice treats. |
I collect all my change in a tupperware dish. Once it gets full, I go through and roll all of the coins and deposit it into my bank account. After about 2 months, I have at least $50 saved in just change.
My dad owns a painting company, so 5-gallon buckets are common around my place....but I don't want one of them just sitting there collecting change. My tupperware works just fine. |
Yeah that's a good approach too. If you want to get further into my odd change collecting habits, I collect $1 coins seperately until there's a hundred of them then I change that at the bank and drop it in the bucket, and I pick a random denomination of coin for a bonus round where I save it up until it reaches a changeable amount for the bank and then I either use that or drop in in the bucket.
I'm so interested to skip ahead a few years for when this bucket is full, I'm confident there'll be several thousand dollars in it. |

I have a money market savings account that is free and accrews interest. I put in $50 a week. Works for me. The change is just an on-the-side thing. I usually use the change for something gear-related. |
I need about £1500 for gear to finish my pedalboard and bi-amp setup. Then some more for a new bass.
How long do you reckon it'll take me, saving pennies ;p |
If you double the number of pennies you save each day....
19 days. |
Haha. So easy.
Yeah man I think a fair chunk of my bucket will go to gear. My next gear purchases are an audio interface for my computer, a great DI for home recording, a really good Analysis+ bass lead and then I think I'm done for a while. Oh and a nylon string acoustic guitar and a good condenser microphone. I don't think I'll actually get a new electric bass for some time. Does anyone else handle their sneezes by doing it inside their shirt? |

Haha yeah sometimes I fight back the urge and then wonder if it was bad for me to supress it.
|
They say a sneeze is one-eighth of an orgasm...
I'd much rather pleasure myself than put pepper up my nose to induce 8 sneezes. |
I've never heard anyone say that :amaze:.
Man everytime I talk about expensive gear I want to get Edgebass shows me at least two more expensive things that I also end up wanting. I don't rake in enough cash to support my gear dreams. I'm very happy with what I have but, that's never stopped anyone. |

Lol. I know that there are 3 basses I wanna get (Spector Euro 6, Warwick Streamer 6, Stingray 4), I want to put some EMG-CS's into my Schecter, and I want to buy an Aguilar OBP-3 for my 8-string. After I spend $4000+ on all that, then I'll work on my amp situation. I'm looking at a similar setup to Dirk Lance (his tone is similar to what I'm looking for, a little warm though) with some Demeter electronics. I really want to build a decent pedal board too, but aside from a delay, I'm not sure of anything I'd want at this point. |
