If anyone's interested in some modern-sounding tech death type stuff (elite need not apply) that's above average, there was an album put up on the MMFE blog by Pitbulls In the Nursery not too long ago. Yeah, I know that's the type of name that a shitty deathcore band would have, but this stuff's pretty good. Nothing extremely groundbreaking, but worth it if you like newer tech death.

edit: I've only heard parts of the new one in the car with my friend, and I like what I've heard better than Anomolies....but you didn't ask me.

Anomalies

Poofy 666 07-13-2007 12:05 PM

Anomalies is by far superior to Xenosapien. Aside from Endless Cycle of Violence and G.O.D., none of the other songs have managed to get my attention like the songs off Anomalies.

repcak 07-13-2007 12:09 PM

i only know Anomalies, though i recently downloaded their whole discographie, but i still have to listen to all their albums

Shattered_Future 07-13-2007 12:20 PM

Anomalies by far, although Endless Cycle Of Violence is seriously a cool song.

LifeInABox 07-13-2007 12:45 PM

They were very good live, except they cut Decapitated's set wayyy too short. Decapitated only got to play like 4 songs.
Yeah I can understand what you mean, and at times in my writing I might just throw a riff in of that style to mix things up a little and if it is fitting but to say thats the only type of appealing/pretty melody I think is wrong.
The only two bands I was ever in that I really enjoyed featured that type of riffing as well as some more standard death stuff, and that's about it, plus breakdowns. :p

I don't actually see anything wrong with it, I just think much more could be done, and yeah, I wasn't saying that it's the only kind of melody that's appealing/pretty, I'm saying most guitarists these days, especially one's I've done vocals for, seem to think that those patterns are the only form of melodies that can be written.
For pretty melodies they could take more influence from Classical/Baroque/Romantic music. Also don't make the melody the riff. Use it as an accompanment or the focus over the top of something else. Thats just my feelings.
Again, you're bringing up a good point, but a lot of guitarists don't know much music past modern music, and they don't know enough about songwriting to structure something like that.
Yeah, Quo Vadis aren't exactly known for their heavy riffs...might as well stick to what they can do right.
Yep.

Poofy 666 07-13-2007 01:19 PM

Quo Vadis are pretty good. Their music is really fun for playing along. On the Shores of Ithaka specially.

i am the robots 07-13-2007 01:22 PM

That song specifically is amazing.

Tyler 07-13-2007 02:27 PM

Lucid Interval is easily Cephalic Carnage's best.

Bartender 07-13-2007 02:40 PM

I prefer "Silence Calls the Storm", I think. With regards to Quo Vadis.

I don't really know that much by them, though.

Yeah agreed. I was actually disappointed in Xenosapien. There's only a few songs I like on Xenosapien, where as I like almost all the songs on Anomalies. I still need to hear Lucid Interval, however.

Yeah, 'tis good.

I haven't really been into Quo Vadis for a few years now though.

Moon Flavor 07-13-2007 04:02 PM

Check out Hieronymus Bosch, they remind me a little bit of QV, and they're damn good.

Poofy 666 07-13-2007 04:07 PM

Hieronymus Bosch doesn't sound like them too much imo. Great band nonetheless.

They're certainly not clones, but they're the band I always think to compare them to, for some reason.

MagicNinjaMatt 07-13-2007 04:08 PM

Can you guys recommend me some really heavy death metal. It doesn't have to be fast but, heavy is a must. Does anyone know what/who I'm looking for?

That depends on the kind of death metal you're looking for. I would recommend some Cryptopsy or Behemoth to someone who's kind of new to the genre, but the old-school fans would most certainly disagree with me on this.

Also Meshuggah although they are more thrash.

AA-12 07-13-2007 04:39 PM

Meshuggah is pretty much the furthest thing from thrash...

publicastration 07-13-2007 04:50 PM

I consider Meshuggah technical thrash. But that's just my opinion.

Anyone like Visceral Bleeding?

AA-12 07-13-2007 04:54 PM

Dude, that's retarded, honestly. They have absolutely nothing even nearly in common with thrash. It's like legitimately saying NSYNC is a Doom Metal band.

publicastration 07-13-2007 04:56 PM

Destroy Erase Improve is pretty thrashy.

I don't think it's that much of a stretch.

AA-12 07-13-2007 04:56 PM

...

RetiredAt21 07-13-2007 05:08 PM

I hate Meshuggah.

this wiggerbabble is endlessly amusing

Invicta_Veritas 07-13-2007 05:50 PM

Your incessant need to come in here and make retardedly negative statements out of the blue is not.

TojesDolan 07-13-2007 06:17 PM

Indeed it is, Dargon.

1. syphilis kabbage discussion
2. calling meshuggah thrash
3. thinking thrash is "heavy metal and hardcore"
