5 tracks, but I guess technically 4 songs.

Being a CR fan, 40 minutes is a perfectly legitimate amount of music on CD to warrant buying it.

Ephemeral 04-05-2006 02:28 PM

That puts off alot of people from buying Floyd albums..

People always ask me why I buy albums like "WYWH" with only 5 songs on it. They don't think it's worth it, but they don't know that Shine On takes up quite a bit of space.

They are missing out.

robo2448 04-05-2006 02:57 PM

Well they're five really long amazing songs. Don't judge an album by the number of songs. Look at Animals, technically that has 5 songs, but the two Pigs on the Wing are only 1:25 each so the album is pretty much made up of three songs.

About Wish You Were Here, I have never spaced out to an album like I do to Wish You Were Here. Every single time I hear it I just drift off on an amazing journey. It's hard to describe, but it's a really amazing experience to listen to that album every single time. My favorite Floyd album.

Oh no I wsn't concerned about it I was concerned about not getting enough "play time" from an album. Thing that didn't bug me when I pay $10+ for Weezer's green album which ended up being bad, bad, bad.

And the moral is: Always buy Floyd. Avoid Weerez

Meddle is like that for me... especially on "Echoes".

Song takes me places... especially when chemically altered.

Riva 04-05-2006 05:11 PM

Songs take me places without drugs, but Pink Floyd does it best.

The change from Have A Cigar to Wish You Were Here is still my favourite bit on the album.

MidnightRider 04-05-2006 06:05 PM

SOYCD is definitely the highlight of WYWH for me, though I love every second of it. It's been my favorite Floyd album for some time now.

Riva, I also like that bit in between WTTM and Have a Cigar.

pigonthewing82 04-05-2006 07:41 PM

Yeah so I saw David Gilmour last night. He was amazing. This is the best show I've been to. Tied with Cream. He played all of his new album for the first half and Pink Floyd songs made up the second half. The Pink Floyd songs he played were Shine On You Crazy Dimond, Coming Back To Life, Dominos, Breath, Time, Echoes, and Wish You Were Here and Comfertably Numb were the encores. There were a couple others but I can't remember what they were. All in all it was great I was very suprised to hear Echoes. It was still great. The real suprise of the night was Syd's song Dominos. I couldn't belive it, it was a great version of it too with a solo that sounded like was played with tremelo. Gram Nash and Bill Crosby preformed with him on a couple songs from the new album, Shine On You Crazy Dimond, as well as a Crosby Stills and Nash song (I don't know whitch one, I havn't really gotten into them as much as I've been meaning to). Dick Perry, the sax player from Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here preformed with them. Rick was there too.

It's David Crosby.

Man that sounds like an awesome show. I am so jealous right now. Seeing him live must have been just incredible.

I envy you.

 Thats right, sorry. While it would have been very entertaining if it was Bill Cosby preforming with him, I think I prefered DAVID Crosby.

Yeah it was a great show. You should still try to get tickets. This was his first stop in the US so he shouldn't have passed by your town yet.

Nah the show I was trying to get tickets to was the one you saw last night. They sold out right away.

Getting into The Final Cut now. I love The Hero's Return, The Gunner's Dream, The Final Cut and Not Now John. Actually, I like the whole album. I haven't stopped listening to it since I bought it a week ago! It's very emotional, and has such simple songwriting too. Diggin' it to the shitter.

Riva 04-07-2006 07:10 AM

Not Now John is such a perfect track.

Jim 04-08-2006 02:15 AM

Yeah, it's very The Wall-esque. Like the "at the show" section on disc 2.

Oh, and I just leant Dave Gilmour's new one to a mate. We'll have another converted soon! :thumb:
Eh, I was hesitant on buying "Wish you were here" because it only had 4 songs, and it was like $15.

Then I listened "Shine on you crazy diamond" And I can't get it off my head. I need the album badly. :(
The live version is outragously awesome.
Also, the solo to The Fletcher Memorial Home is super good.

Jim 04-08-2006 04:26 AM

123. One of the only golden moments by Dave on The Final Cut.

I agree. I don't use drugs, but Pink Floyd still really takes me places.

something for everyone to do is:

Listen to Echoes in pitch darkness. It's so weird. Don't move either.

Fix'd. I've had countless posts about all my experiences with this, I know Riva and the Regs are sick as poo of it by now.

I keep having daydreams where Pink Floyd team up with Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Who, and Led Zeppelin to fight crime and their nemesis, James Blunt and the Maroon 5's. They usually end with face-melting slide/rythym/triple-lead solos and a scene where the gang tells what lesson they learned. Awesome.

pigonthewing82 04-08-2006 09:09 PM

It is interesting to listen to Pink Floyd in different enviroments. They just can take you to so many places while listening to their music. It has an effect on me that no other band does.

Danger Bird 04-08-2006 09:10 PM

I get scared listening to Careful With that Axe, Eugene in the dark.

pigonthewing82 04-08-2006 09:14 PM
I get scared listening to Careful With that Axe, Eugene in the dark.
Careful With That Axe, Eugene has a weird effect on me when I listen to it when I'm really stoned. Espically this live bootleg version I have. Roger singing the lyrics are almost as frightening as his scream. I must make sure never to listen to that song on shrooms. That has bad trip written all over it.

I bet they kick the shit out of me for not having presence.

Riva 04-09-2006 03:42 AM

Haha, try driving down a pitch black highway at 2 in the morning playing the "whales having sex" part of Echoes. I swore I was only minutes away from an alien encounter. Freaked me out something chronic.

Mr. Night V2.0 04-09-2006 12:56 PM

Is that the bit in the middle, with the Theramin's and stuff?

I love the bit after that.

Ephemeral 04-09-2006 01:03 PM

I thought that was all David Gilmour's guitar.

magicbus 04-09-2006 01:04 PM

Yea it is. I don't think the Floyd ever used a Theramin.

Ephemeral 04-09-2006 01:19 PM

It doesn't sound like a threramin to me, and he does it on Live at Pompeii with his guitar, and live at the BBC.

Mr. Night V2.0 04-09-2006 01:36 PM

Meh, just a guess. But ya know which bit I mean.

Anyone got any ideas why Echoes on Meddle is 20+ minutes and on the best of it's only 16 minutes?
