Their new album is a little dissapointing meaning their new album was Depeche Mode.
|
Congrats to AFI for winning at the VMAs.
|
They even swore when they accepted their trophy! And if they didn't, they should've. Those outlandish punk rockers dissrespecting the rules all of the time.
|
AFI isn't a punk band.
|
Thankfully.
Anyway, they had a contest on their myspace where fans could vote for any song they've ever recorded to be the fourth song in their profile player. People from the OMB and afiseries etc rallied together and tried to get people to vote for Carcinogen Crush, the unreleased Sing The Sorrow outtake. The song got a large number of votes, and assuming they're able to put it up, we might be hearing a new AFI song at some point today. |
I think either Carcinogen Crush or This Time Imperfect has won.
|
For their shittiest song ever recorded! Yay!!!
hah agreed. anyway, I like all there stuff pre sing the sorrow. it's good. |
Thankfully.

I want Synesthesia to go up but I don't think it got very many votes, it will either be The Days of the Pheonix or This Time Imperfect |
STS outtakes are always better than anything on STS.
|

yeah, Synesthesia should have been on the album, that is one of my favorite AFI songs. |
Rabbits Are Roadkill on Route 37 is an outtake from STS

Except Rabbits ... worst sts era track, IMO. |

I really like "Miss Murder." I'm didn't really like "Decemberunderground" overall though. It was my first AFI album so I didn't really go into it expecting it to sound like a certain sound. I bought "Sing The Sorrow" about a month after getting the new album and I like it a lot better. |

Rabbits is my favorite AFI song. |

Haha, sorry mate! I just found it a bit bland, tis all. Not like I hate it, I just prefer the other STS material. |
ok. id like to say something. OLD OLD OLD afi was punk. but anything anywhere near new stuff is nothing short of EMO!
emo sucks. new afi, by transitive property, sucks. |
dude just leave now.
afi aren't emo and never were emo get educated or go away. |
Get your learn on little man.
|
their new stuff from what my friends have showed me is not anywhere near punk. well i guess that depends on what you define as punk. for me, punk-punk is stuff like casualties, misfits, dropkick, exploited, sex pistols, and such. the straight stuff. i guess they could be called post-punk, but theyre leaning towards emo IMHO. ima go download some more of their new stuff to make sure.
|
It's evolution, dear misinformed user.
EDIT: And you're wrong. There's punk punk and there's punk punk punk which has more rebellion and patches. |
No, go download EMO to figure out if AFI is emo. Your mission is to figure out what emo is.
Hints: Hawthorne Heights and My Chemical Romance are not emo. |
if youre referring to the 80s movement of emo, that died and is no longer the genre associated with emo.
so to get my misinformed self straight, plz gimme an example of an emo song. and gimme a NEW afi song that should prove their punkness. |

Both movements are not dead. Download some Circle Takes the Square, I Hate Myself, Indian Summer, Amanda Woodword or Boy's Life for emo bands. |
ok will do. btw, i rediscovered AFI's the boy who destoryed the world. thats punk. its got some neo-alt (kinda made that up but i think you know what i mean) riffs towards the end but the basis of it is pretty punk.
and btw, i havent heard many emo bands, going by the definition of that old movement. but there are plenty of bands here that emulate punk from the days of yore. im just waying i havent heard any but ok im downloading now. |
wtf is neo-alt?
you're making up genres |
i SAID i made it up. by that i mean the new alt rock or alt "punk". but i dont like calling it alt cuz to me alt refers to stuff like three doors down, etc.
|
ha sorry missed that.
|
ok i downloaded indian summer and yes, thats emo too. but its the kind that uses diminished chords. kinda indie influenced? still i think afi is the new emo. or how emo is called.
btw, isnt you saying afi isnt true emo the same as me saying its not true punk? i think a new genre should be made for that kinda music cuz i think we can all admit its not straight punk. and i know its not true pure emo but its damn close IMHO. btw, im trying to come to an understanding of what yall think punk is and what emo really is and why afi isnt emo or some branch of it. im not at all trying to be confrontational. |
new AFI I'd classify and alternative post-punk (if that makes any ****ing sense).
the stuff that AFI got really big for isn't punk. stuff that most fans you see on the street havn't heard is punk. if you want punk AFI, listen to the first three full legnths; answer that and stay fashionable, very proud of ya, and the more hardcore punk shut your mouth and open your eyes. AFI started going in the direction of where they are now during the black sails era, but still had some punk influences, same with art of drowning. sing the sorrow had some songs with punk influences, and DU has very little punk in it at all, some post-hardcore punk in it maybe. |
I could be more original than that.
AFI stands for Get The **** Out Of The Thread. |
