i read somewhere in an interview where daron said something like " i feel rejected in the band since im like the main attention in the band now that i sing more. although what most people dont know is that ive always been writing a bit of lyrics here and there." so thats not good if they band members are negative toward him.. thats what breaks up bands!

Lonely Day is awesome. It sounds cliched, but I tend to look past that and admire the fact Daron even did a song like it. I was just thinking how when I was listening to SOAD a few years ago, and thought they wouldn't even attempt a song in this vein, but they have definitely evolved into something great, and kind of unclassifiable. I do miss the occasional Serj growl though, one of those could've fit on Vicinity of Obscenity or Dreaming.

I reckon with their next release in the distant future, it will be a completely different SOAD. The wall of crunchy, nu-metallish (using the term loosely) guitars that was present on the first 3 releases is no longer there; Daron now uses a much cleaner tone and layers the songs perfectly. Thrash influences are much more evident. I don't know where they could possibly go after these two releases - but I'm sure it's something we'll least expect.

I want to listen to the leaks... but it's not the same as listening to the full sexy album... I really, really need to listen to it. NOW!

But to avoid a fanboyist aspect here, I really have high-stakes on it. I really hope that they excel with Hypnotize... I don't mind Daron singing. But his songwritng was ugh...

Some old fans seem unwilling to accept that SOAD will always be changing and evolving from album to album. It's not the same as "selling out" because 1) there's no guarantee that what they do differently will result in more popular appeal, and 2) it's quite clearly more motivated by the desire to experiment than to get more money.

I quite enjoy bands that aren't willing to stick with the same sound for their entire career. I don't care how good their original sound is (like SOAD's for example), it's more interesting to see what they'll do next.

Like... damn why do I have King Crimson stuck in my head? THey have evolved vastly from the early years... I guess. Pretty much a lot of Prog bands have, in my humble opinion.

or Sum41, for instance. They are doing what appeals them the most, and that makes them... alright, as they do what they want and not what sells... although their name is more related to pop punk than their little heavy metal thing going on.

Most SOAD songs are great from the first listen to me. Like Kill Rock 'n Roll is just terrible. I heard the live version before and did not like it. Did Serj write the lyrics on Vicinity of Obscenity?

Does anybody know if there is a place to download Hezze? I'm really, really interested in hearing that.

EDIT - I really love Daron's vocals on "She's Like Heroin." Also, who here also LOVES Soldier Side? That song is so amazing. I think its my favorite. All thought I don't like the 2 harmony singing in the last chorus. They just don't match. But everything else in that song is perfect. :thumb:

Hypnotize is pretty sweet.

I've been waiting for Hypnotize to leak for a long time so I could experiment. If you make a CD with both albums on, you put Attack first, and proceed to put the 2nd track of Mesmerize with the 2nd track of Hyptonize after it, then the 3rd track of Mesmerize with the 3rd track of Hypnotize after it, etc etc, they all lead really well into one another. And then you finish it off with Soldier Side (intro) and Soldier Side. I've listened to the whole thing and it seems like a whole work, which is what it's intended to be in the first place.

Its not the band memebers being negative towards him, He feels he's got too much attention on him from the fans now that he started singing lead.

Serj said in an interview (possibly the same) that he was happy for Daron to finely be in the spotlight because after all the songs etc he writes for the band.

i find hypnotize darker than mesmerize

Serj will always be the frontman in my mind. Most of the time Daron doesn't sing on the new one. Most of the time he is just backing up Serj.:thumb:

lots of times pplz who do the 'backup' work are the ones who do the most... :P
i gotta say, hypnotize is pretty cool... but their new one is even better :D

Daron singing these days does not anoy me but I rather when it was just a back up or when he did vocals for the wierd voices and stuff. Though Darons singing is okay.

And Same here, I dont mind maybe listeing to a song or 2 but a whole leaked album I wouldnt do that. It ruins the surprise.

Back in the day, SOAD recorded a few songs where someone besides Daron and Serj is growling, like a reeeeaally deep, bass growl. Is that Shavo singing?

im not going to listen to the leaked cd.. first cuz it will ruin it for when the cd comes out, and 2nd i cant listen to it anyway cuz my compute sucks :(.. also the growl serj does isnt that hard actually.. if you have a mic and a loud speaker its just like you breathe in.. its cool.. i do it to scare people. muhaha!

Most screams are mostly made using a microphone. Its alot easier than you might think. Suppositly, if you can scream without a mic, you are pushing to hard.
