I think i'll program the drums and give the tracks/tabs to someone so they can learn the parts quick, then on the release version have actual drum playing

interviewer02 09-30-2008 11:43 AM

what do you play Masscows?

Iluvatar 09-30-2008 11:43 AM

he plays the brutal flute
Just got the new Misery Index :)

what do you play Masscows?
guitar and bass

not particularly skilled at either

beans 09-30-2008 02:01 PM

rep for honesty lol

masada 09-30-2008 02:04 PM

death metal drumming that isnt a bunch of homo blasting and **** isnt v hard

Nostalgia 09-30-2008 02:30 PM

Programmed drumming in death / black metal can't amount to anything positive. The only band I've seen in said genres to make it work is Oubliette and that's because they're so buried they just keep a simple melody without actually breaking through (if that makes any sense).
death metal drumming that isnt a bunch of homo blasting and **** isnt v hard
yeah I know, I could probably do alot of the parts but I can't double bass at all and my blasting goes off time too much

death metal really isn't that hard to play all around, it's about songwriting and riffs with substance

masada 09-30-2008 03:04 PM

tru

you dont REALLY need double bass just dont try playing that stuff until you can actually do it consistently

what kind of blasts do you want to do, the unison or 'alternating'

the latter ones arent v hard to get down well

both, I have drum parts in my head for some of the riffs I have written and some would fit better with unision and some with alternating

the alternating one is easy but I'm pretty uncoordinated so I go off time pretty often

masada 09-30-2008 03:07 PM

yeah u just gots to practice

doom drumming is the best its awesome for people who suck like me

hismajestythepope 09-30-2008 03:12 PM

i can play hardcore drums !!

Stormrider 09-30-2008 06:04 PM

The thing is that the programmed drum sound is so ...camouflaged I guess, that it isn't even a bother anymore. Good example. I could find some more bands that pull off drum programming, though.

masada 09-30-2008 06:05 PM

fatpete's dm thing has programmed drumz that dont sound too bad

rattlehead42147 09-30-2008 06:22 PM

for a demo programmed drums work just fine. look at the exivious demo, or even what meshuggah did with c33. not a meshuggah fan but just tryin to make a point. especially if you aren't particularly skilled on bass or guitar then its not like you really need to track down the gene hoglan of your town.
but yeah i guess the other alternative is practicing.
you dont REALLY need double bass just dont try playing that stuff until you can actually do it consistently
I know that Mick Harris only used single-pedal on Napalm Death's Harmony Corruption and Reek of Putrefaction, if you count that as death rather than grind, also has no double bass. But if you want speed rather have the choice of both blastbeats and double bass than one.

Concerning Gorguts' guitar punching, it's primarily the bassist who has the most notably aggressive instrumental interaction and I'd say he karate chops it more than punches. I actually quite enjoy Obscura to be frank.

masscows 10-01-2008 12:05 PM

I would mostly be using double bass as a sort of come-down mechanism to transition from blastbeats, if that makes sense. I also have a few Immolation-y breakdowns that I'd need double bass to play triplets on.

And I like Obscura alot too

Not bad if you ask me; their albums is going to be released at 10th, October. I just listen to their new record and its solid.

Nostalgia 10-01-2008 05:23 PM

This doesn't make sense to me. Every version of the song "Slowly we Rot" I've heard is 3:41 seconds long. However when I was looking at the lyrics today there is a whole section that John Tardy doesn't sing.

Vile is pussing, living it out
Slowly rotting and dying
You might definetly feel
The distorting of (all), (your) life
Kill all who find death is not
(To be) slowly rotting out.

Furthermore join me
Slowly we rot..
Slowly we rot..

Then the one who finds death
Is not (to be) slowly rotting out
Violently distorting
As his soul is leaking blood
Then the one will find the truth
Of slowly rotting out

Futhermore join me
Slowly we dwell..
Slowly we dwell..

To die......

That part, to be specific. I've listened to the song through a few different mediums and none sing that part.

masada 10-01-2008 05:29 PM

yes austin you see sometimes bands will omit things when they record the song in the studio

Nostalgia 10-01-2008 05:34 PM

Well if they were you think lyrical sites would cut out lyrics that aren't in the song.

masada 10-01-2008 05:54 PM

i think you should write an email complaint in BOLD RED FONT

Jondur 10-02-2008 02:41 AM

That's odd because there were no lyrics to Slowly We Rot. John Tardy said he thought it amusing to see kids singing along to songs with no lyrics.

masada 10-02-2008 05:06 AM

bought altars of madness yesterday and the booklet smells like MARIJUANA

beans 10-02-2008 12:16 PM

thats how they wanted it to smell

shut up nignog

Deth 10-02-2008 10:04 PM

I think I like Testimony of the Ancients more than Consuming Impulse.

rattlehead42147 10-02-2008 10:09 PM

haha, finally.
I used to like TOTA more but I prefer Pestilence's standard approach to death metal over their progressive take. better vox on Consuming, no pointless interludes between songs among other reasons.

Angmar 10-02-2008 10:10 PM

I like the Rack over all other Van Drunen releases I have heard, but Consuming Impulse is definitely my favorite Pestilence album.
