Bartender: It could also be Bring The Pain. I'm straining to remember my Chris Rock standup routines.
I'm pretty sure it's not Bring the Pain or Bigger and Blacker, since they're the two I have, and Bring the Pain was actually my first introduction to him. I'm pretty sure it's not on the Born Suspect CD either, but I don't listen to that as much anyway, so I could be wrong.

BoboTheRagingHobo 07-18-2005 12:40 PM
Yeah! Someone recommended Quo Vadis to me in the death head thread. I got I Believe, On the Shores of Ithaka and another one (I can't remember the name). Good stuff.
Then try some Equilibrium, a power metal band similar to CoB from Germany, just viking metal instead.

Try these songs :

Sturm
Met
Unter Der Eiche
Wingthors Hammer

/runs

Gotta leave for work, later.

Well, I saw it on a special so I don't think it's on a CD. It's on a real recent one because he bashes Lil' Jon in it.

Bartender 07-18-2005 12:44 PM

Yeah, I'm not sure if Bring the Pain of Bigger and Blacker are on CD either. Anyway, thanks for letting me know it exists, at least. I'll try and have a look around for it.

Thanks, I definately will.
I'd download it but ignore the lyrics.

Also if you want somthing really cool, try Necrophagist.
I'll give them a try. I think someone reccomended them too, but I didn't get a chance to try them out.
Im not entirely sure, but they are definatly not Hardcore. Hardcore is a sub-genre of punk, and Senses Fail have very little to do with punk. For me, they are more Pop-Punky.
Yeah, that makes sense. I couldn't put a finger on what other band they sounded like.

Ciao guys, going to go play some guitar.

Moses 07-18-2005 12:45 PM

Ray: I just glanced at your cd collection and was surprised to see Blackwater Park there......

Among all the classic rock and rap Opeth kind of seems wierd but still makes sense.

It's definitely worth looking for, I have to say.

The acoustic parts could be enjoyable to anyone, especially a classic rock fan.

magicbus 07-18-2005 12:49 PM

Here's my cd collection, for no apparent reason.

Ah, yeah.

I'm trying to get into the harder/heavier parts, too.

EDIT: Aaron, nice collection

Soon you will tolerate the growl, and then evenutally crave it.

Illmatic 07-18-2005 12:53 PM

I prefer the growling to his normal singing voice, actually

Lord Abortion 07-18-2005 12:56 PM

on racism in metal-
In BM circles, you see alot of bands that have racist beliefs, especially in the subgenre NSBM, I haven't really heard any of their music, and would perhaps feel a little uneasy doing it, mind you I listen to supposedly satanist bands and don't feel uneasy, and I listen to Varg who IS racist, I dunno, I just leave people's beliefs out of it because, although I really dislike racism, a prevalent opinion in a country school where there are about 3 black people in the school, I love Varg, for example's music...

that was a bit confused, sorry

magicbus 07-18-2005 12:56 PM

Thanks Ray.

I find myself liking Orchid and Morningrise a lot more than the other Opeth albums. Blackwater Park seems to be more aggressive in comparison to the other two. Orchid is hands down my favorite, I love the melodic, flowing riffs it has, and while the double bass rules, I also really like the slow drumming on some songs, like at the beginning of Forest Of October. And the growls are awesome, I definently can see myself craving them.

/listening to Orchid now. Unbelievable.

Hurray, I started a trend.

Only two Bowie albums? Die.

Or get more Bowie albums, it's up to you.

I'll try to get those then. The only songs off either of those that I have heard is "To Bid You Farewell", which I kinda liked.

"To Bid You Farewell" is what made me check out Morningrise. My friend did a cover of it for a talent show, and I love the bassline in the first section.

Lord Abortion 07-18-2005 01:17 PM

Opeth seem to be the non DM liker's DM band if you know what I mean...

Moses 07-18-2005 01:18 PM

Not really DM at all except the growls.

magicbus 07-18-2005 01:32 PM

Once again, I don't remember which genre is which :upset: I seem to get Death Metal and Black Metal confused. I listen to other metal too, although I don't think my record list would show that.

Jom, I'm glad you have decided to impliment your new rule in the YSI thread, it's getting spammed to buggery and that's a shame because Other than that it's excellent

Moses 07-18-2005 01:48 PM
Someone said something about Mind of Mencia and asked for opinions.

I liked Mencia's stand-up on CCP:, but I hated his final routine where he just walked offstage. That was irritating.

The new show has its moments (once in a blue moon), but Mencia goes for cheap laughs with cracking jokes at different nationalities. Yes, I like jokes like this, and yes, I understand that if you're Hispanic that you're comfortable with your heritage by taking stabs at it, but when your entire show revolves around the same "style" of jokes, it gets really old really fast.

Take, for instance, his first show. The one where he says that his mom was a uterus with a head due to having seventeen siblings, then showing that street sign (the one that was supposed to symbolize 'Watch for Children' when he felt it showed immigrants crossing into the country), and then claiming that the fence around the studio was "the actual fence his parents hopped over." Borefest.
That was all just the first show, but yeah it can get pretty overdone. I liked the end where he showed GWB flipping off the camera. That was great. I also liked the Arabian commercials.

Thanks. I said earlier that I hoped I wouldn't have to resort to that, but now I'm going to have to. There really is no excuse for anyone in that thread to have more posts than I do in there, unless they're incredibly active with requesting/uploading.

By the time I come back to university, however, I will definitely be more active when it comes to uploading for others.

Basically, all I do now is upload for people who haven't had answers requested (that I have, anyway), and then wipe the list.

Heh, that's Josiah's avatar.

I'm taking all the thespark.com tests again, for the first time in years, I'm dying at 52 and I'm this :

You are a Mastermind!
(Submissive Introverted Abstract Thinker)
You are a MASTERMIND (SIAT). You can be silent and withdrawn, but behind your reserved exterior lies an active mind that allows you to analyze situations and come up with creative, unexpected solutions. Normal people call this scheming.

Anyway, your sense of style and originality are your strengths, and people will respect your judgment once they get to know you. If you learn to be a little more personable, you could be a great leader— you've definitely got the vision thing down. Just make sure all the plotting you do behind those eyes of yours is healthy.

Famous masterminds in television: Dr. Claw, The Scarecrow and Mrs. King, Montgomery Burns.

Compared to 14,734,714 other test takers...
9% are more Submissive than you.
77% are more Dominant than you.
14% are just as Submissive as you.
3% are more Introverted than you.
92% are more Extroverted than you.
5% are just as Introverted as you.
15% are more Abstract than you.
68% are more Concrete than you.
17% are just as Abstract as you.
27% are more Thinking than you.
65% are more Feeling than you.
7% are just as Thinking as you.
