My sister contaminated the hotel room with her sickness so I'm a bit sick too. There's probably a guitar store nearby, so I'll go to that later.

ive been playn since i was nine so maybe around 5 years
:amaze: If you've been a dedicated player all those years, then you must be quite good.

I've been playing for about a month and a half now...though I've played bass for 2 years before that, so it's helped a lot.

kurrpt 04-14-2006 12:22 PM

to me

the amount of time spent is negligable. Its all about what you DO with that available time that makes the difference

Shred Danson 04-14-2006 12:49 PM

/practice talk

I really don't see how someone can get bored with practicing on their guitar. But that's just me.

nah...

i just took a hiatus from it for a while. After spending the past few weeks using the economy of motion principal, ive been working on overhauling my left and right hands...

definitely this weekend. I usually stay up till about 2 am just to play

/sad

Shred Danson 04-14-2006 01:50 PM

|--------------------------
|--------------------------
|-----9-----7-----8-----6--
|---8-----8-----7-----7----
|-7-----9-----6-----8------
|---------------------------

Play that and repeat it over and over again. It's so fun to play! :p

kurrpt 04-14-2006 01:59 PM

ah that shizz is easy man...

i like doing the inversion JP does, and i even take it a step further

|--------------------------
|-------9-----9-----6-----6
|-----8-----7-----7-----8--
|---7-----8-----8-----7----
|-6-----6-----9-----9------
|---------------------------

if you notice (obvious) hes just chaning the middle 2 fingers, then the last 2. I find a VERY good practice is to just try to confuse the shizz out of your hand. Like, instead of inversing the middle 2, id inverse the index and middle, then the middle and ring, then the middle and pinky, or whatever

I'm Charming 04-14-2006 02:46 PM

Hmm. I havn't played anything JP has done.

kurrpt 04-14-2006 02:47 PM

you really should

MRDuCran 04-14-2006 02:50 PM

I started sweeping over, played 16th note triplets at 40, clean.
Gotta get back into Cacophony...

kurrpt 04-14-2006 02:51 PM

started OVER!!!

damn dude, you're beginning to sound like me

i swear that constant redefinition of PERFECTION and TECHNIQUE really makes you a hell of a player.
you really should
Meh. I got bored of This Dying Soul a while back.

What's the best way to learn to sweep? I can't sweep for the life of me.

I know, tell me about it, I hit one bad note and I get annoyed, drop the metronome mark down by 20. I've had my gain on 4-5 lately too.

kurrpt 04-14-2006 02:56 PM

honestly dude, since i started not too long ago....

Its really about learning how to synch up your hands. to be able to feel the fretted note AS its picked, and releasing the fret to a point where the string is muted.

for me, im in a constant game up catch up with my right hand, so it was all about getting that basic sweep motion with the right hand.

Slow + metronome is the way to start, but you really need to concentrate/focus on what you need to work on

kurrpt 04-14-2006 02:58 PM
I know, tell me about it, I hit one bad note and I get annoyed, drop the metronome mark down by 20. I've had my gain on 4-5 lately too.

i checked my gain last night while on the phone with a friend. amazingly, my krank is only at 4, but im using a BBE in conjunction, so maybe thats why.

I got my sweeps clean at 140 triplets. Im fairly happy with that i guess. Not nearly where i want it, but im kinda going back to basics since I have a different perspective on 'perfection'

MRDuCran 04-14-2006 03:03 PM

I like practising in 8th triplets, as opposed to 16ths, 'cause you can accent every 3 notes and it makes me feel like I can get more accuracy. I starting thinking this way when I started practising Necrophagist licks, since all their songs are 200+ pretty much, his sweeps are triplets or 16ths.

Silenius 04-14-2006 04:56 PM
:thumb:
I need to practice this though:

e|-17-12-17-20-17-20-24-20-24-24-----|
|----3----| |----3----| |----3----|

Andget this sweep clean :-/

e|
b|--------------------12
g|----------------12
d|------------14
a|--------14
e|12-15

So it may take alittle while. :(
