That's a pretty good list, but you forgot to include Benighted and...
TO BID YOU FAREWELL That song is the most beautiful thing ever recorded. Ever.
I think you said it best... "I can't believe I forgot that! *smacks forehead*" |
To Bid Your Farewell is the best song Opeth has ever done. Yeah, it's my favorite Opeth song......\m/
It's my 2nd favorite. I'm just a sucker for The Leper Affinity. :) |
The second riff from Moonlapse Vertigo.
Uh, the first lead guitar before the carnival-sounding part in By the pain I see in others. The 2 lead guitars in fifths from "The leper affinity" |

The main lead line in A Fair Judgement is really beautiful as well.
|
You could probably come up with at least one part in every song for this list. Opeth specializes in being the most beautiful metal band on the face of the earth.

I love that song, it's the perfect album opener.

It's the perfect everything. Every single thing that Opeth does so well is done in that song, and to the best of their ability. The triplet riffs at 2:10 are orgasmic. Talk about a headbanger. |
TLA is one of the coolest songs ever. Seriously.
TLA is one of the coolest songs ever. Seriously.
It puts a smile on my face to hear other people besides me say that. All of my metal friends don't really like Opeth, which I still can't fathom why. |
Yeah, a lot of my metal friends dislike Opeth quite a bit. They're all fags.....
|
It's cause...
*looks around* THEY'RE SECRETLY POP LOVERS! |

*looks around* THEY'RE SECRETLY POP LOVERS!
You're probably right. Most of them are either into symphonic or power metal...but whatever. They always complain about their songs being too long, and then I just smack them and walk away. It doesn't matter how long your songs are if you change things up all the time like Opeth does... |
Are you talking about the opening lead riff? If so, then I agree. That part is awesome! \m/
Yeah, I think it's one of the first leads. |
most beautiful part?
it would have to be the end of Godhead's or the quite bit in TLA :thumb: oh, and can't forget all of to bid you farewell |
I love all the singing parts in Godhead's Lament. SOOO freaking awesome.
|
Beautiful parts to Opeth?
Hard question isn't it? - Middle part of April Ethreal - The ending singing of The Moor - The Start of Dirge for November My top 3 anyways. |
It's cause...
*looks around* THEY'RE SECRETLY POP LOVERS!
Opeth has way more pop appeal than other metal bands... |
In My Time of Need gets my vote for best slow song by Opeth, and Dirge For November for most beautiful.
****ing phenominal band. |
Opeth has way more pop appeal than other metal bands...
Yeah, which is actually a good element of their musics I think, I like really heavy, "brutal," stuff, but it gets kind of boring from time to time. |
The electric part of Face Of Melinda, and the last acoustic part in The Moor with the awesome singing/finger picking combo are my favorite parts.
|
I love in My Time of Need. Which reminds me that I havn't listened to that song in a long while.
Darkness likes the Still Life :p |
For me, the ending to "Demon of the Fall" is perhaps one of Opeth's most beautiful moments. It's like you get a short glimpse of the real person behind the "demon," and his emotions are laid bare before you.
The ending to "When" is also amazing. Not sure where the minute marker is, but there's this one part of "Bleak" towards the end, before the last "Tedious Movements in Your Eyes..." refrain. Mendez hits these high notes that blend with the guitars sooo beautifully... "Harvest" has always had a special place for me...it invokes some of the most vivid imagery. The middle/end of "To Rid the Disease," with the high piano notes. The beginning of "Hope Leaves." The acoustic bits of "Godhead's Lament." "Benighted." "Face of Melinda." "Hours of Wealth." The intro to "Dirge for November." "Spiraling to the Ground Below...like Autumn Leaves left in the wake to fade away..." "And you are just like them all...." |
I was obsessed with Bleak for a really long time. That chorus "Devious movements in your eyes" always got me- the riff, the chord progression, the interlude leading up to it. Such a great song.
