Shut up with your ****, "some stupid thing>some other stupid thing" type things. Can't you just say "is better" and not look stupid?

Huh? Huh?

Man, The Who were so talented ;). expect for Pete, I mean, he's good but nowhere near as good at his instrument at the others were at theirs.
Maybe, but Townshend is an amazing rythm guitarist. Plus his song writing makes up for anything he lacks in guitar skill.

I brought up the Bruce vs. Entwhistle idea awhile ago and most people preferred Entwhistle. I'm not really decided on the issue.

I love Bruce on Crossroads on Wheels of Fire, 'tis very nice.
but what about the crossroads curse;)

spiritualguitarist 12-16-2004 05:52 PM

Sry i was typing really fast it is actually The Edgar Winter Group. My mistake

Illmatic 12-16-2004 05:53 PM
I never really enjoyed listening to pearl jam. Although the cd I am listening to now, it brilliant, Blow by Blow by Jeff Beck.
Good pick. I loved Blow By Blow.

And while I'm late, I think "The Real Me" is the best song for Entwistle's bassing (is that a word? It is now, bitches).

Creedence Clearwater 12-16-2004 05:53 PM
i dont know how you can have this thread without mention some of the bands that have paved the way like Queen, Kansas, The Yardbird, The Edgar Winter Band(p.s Kid Rock stole the riff from Frakenstien for Bawitaba, which really pisses me off), Yes, Bad Company, and Jefferson Airplane
Huh?

The bass line at the beginning of Clapton's second solo is great.

To Disconnection: I prefer some of the things Entwhistle does live, like on Live at Leeds or on The Isle of Wight Dvd over the Real Me. Of course, the Real Me has amazing bass lines as well.

Queen, mentioned.

Kansas, Mentioned

The Yardbirds, Mentioned

Yes, mentioned

Bad Company, mentioned

Jefferson Airplane, mentioned to death ;)

Why not read all 670 pages or so before making assumptions?

Good to see someone else owns that album (I though Rock not Roll liked Jeff Beck? ). I thionk that the tracks where Stevie Wonder was involved are the best.

Where do I get the stars all you already have?

By getting 1000 rep points.

Everyone rep this man!

jpj 12-16-2004 05:58 PM
Indeed. He was one of the first lead bassists.

edit: bruce that is ;)

But all fall to the mighty JPJ :D. The Lemon song is great :)
I think they have JPJ beat by a little bass wise, but JPJ what makes him so great in my eyes is everything else he does. He is a tremendous on the mandolin and keyboards, also before Zeppelin he arranged music for some of the top bands of the 60's.

You are really missing out. The Who live is a whole new level of music.

I had a chance to get Live at Leeds but bought Who's Next insted. :upset:

To Creedence Clearwater: Blow by Blow is awsome :thumb:
512? how many do you need?
1000. Don't worry, we will get you there soon enough.

JPJ: that's true. Bass wise Entwhistle is much better than Jones.

I have Live at Leeds and it is good, but I stand by my original assertion.

crazyman 12-16-2004 06:05 PM

i find that a lot of classic rock is overhyped

i.e. Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix
i find these bands boring to listen to

Considering Bass wasn't JPJ's primary instrument, he does a great job.

i would rep you but first i have to spread it around

jpj 12-16-2004 06:05 PM

Spoonful has some awesome bass lines on it too. I'd much rather listen to Bruce's lines during the solo than the actual solo.

Illmatic 12-16-2004 06:06 PM

I find Jimi Hendrix to be quite un-boring.

But I agree with Led Zeppelin...the least forward thinking and creative of their contemporaries.

BludgeonySteve 12-16-2004 06:06 PM

3 bands is hardly "a lot". And yes, those bands are overhyped and maybe not as good as many other bands. Then again, all kinds of music have overhyped bands.

edit: to crazyman.

The Isle of Wight Dvd might be worth checking out. The quality is not great(it's not Live at Leeds) but the instrumental parts are great. Entwhistle shines more on it that I have ever seen.

Creedence Clearwater 12-16-2004 06:07 PM
Considering Bass wasn't JPP's primary instrument, he does a great job.
Thats a very good point. calling him JPP though....

Brue on Spoonful is better than Clapton on Spoonful methinks.
