I read that too, I liked it as well.

The cave man one was great.

Ill look for it.

Spaceman Spiff 10-28-2004 08:21 PM
^^^ Maybe I'll take a look at it, what kind of book is it.

EDIT to Space
A Clockwork Orange is about these 4 friends, about 14 or 15 years old, like to go out at night beating people up, robbing them, robbing store, raping women, etc...
anyway, not to give away the whole thing, the main character, Alex, is eventually caught and goes to prison after he accidentally murders a woman.
he then needs to go through a treatment that is to cure him of any violence he has in him, but of course, it is not quite what he was expecting.

written in 1962.

Really, you think so? I read it over the summer, and it was alright, but I wouldn't recommend it.

I jsut got done reading, and now I'm analyzing Henrik Ibsen's A Doll's House. It's horrible. To the max.

FUNKNBASS 10-28-2004 08:22 PM

^^^ Seems interesting Space, I'll check it out.

e p 10-28-2004 08:22 PM

When I was a kid my favorite relative was Uncle Caveman. After school we'd all go play in his cave, and every once in a while he would eat one of us. It wasn't until later that I found out that Uncle Caveman was a bear.

it's fun to read about kids that try and start a government on an island because you know that it'll eventually fall into anarchy . . .

Crapdragoon 10-28-2004 08:27 PM

http://www.thestranger.com/current/special.html

that gave me a good laugh (thanks dougie)

Spaceman Spiff 10-28-2004 08:27 PM

yeah, read it for sure, it'll be hard when you start though, language is difficult but you pick it up as you read.

and i've never read Lord Of The Flies, but i usually only hear good things about it. i did see one of the movies of it though in law class earlier this school year.

Foxfire 10-28-2004 08:27 PM

Thanks ESP and Crap for that link.

Gold. Just gold.

Yeah, but it's too predictable. Plus, all the kids pissed me off. Jack was a douche, and all his minions were tools. Ralph (was that his name?) Was too stringheaded to realize what was good for him, and Piggy was just a big fat vagina.

:amaze:

iceman3019 10-28-2004 08:30 PM

piggy is the coolest kid . . . he's the only one that knows that jack and ralph are moronic dumbasses and that whatever form of leadership they're going to put up will suck, and piggy gets smashed by a rock! how cool is that  . . .

Beowulf was alright ... we read it last year. Good for the stuff we usually read in class, but I'm not a fan of old literature.

Piggy had good ideas, but he was too much of a pussy to actually have anyone listen to him. He should have known how it was going to end up, but he kept fighting it ... leading to his death. What a moron.

:amaze:

Foxfire 10-28-2004 08:33 PM

Again.

iceman3019 10-28-2004 08:33 PM

that's because he was so degraded from all the other kids, and if he said something, jack and his hunters or whatever would eat him or stab him with spears . . .

Man you're supposed to look at the theme of the story... and the symbolicness

gosh

Was that to me? I know it's all symbolic ... I'm not that dense. The plot was good, but it was just the characters that pissed me off. I would have handled the situation much better :p

Heyy guys. I just got in from my friend's house (I'm in early because he has school tomorrow). He has the new GTA and it is incredible. I'm buying it tomorrow.

Yeah, the theme was there ... and good, but like I said, it's the characters that made me nit like the book a whole lot.

FUNKNBASS 10-28-2004 08:37 PM

Im thinking of getting it also, I have an extra $1200 on my hands. I should save it, but thats not fun.

bottlerocket 10-28-2004 08:37 PM

By the way, are you talking about Lord of the Flies?

Simon was the best character because of his representation of Christ.

So many symbols in that book...I loved it. I really liked when the pilot was shot down and the kids thing it's the beast. First off, it shows how the niave and "innocent" the children are for wanting to get back to civilization. Second, it shows the horrors of the world and how they effect even children ("The Beastie" I think it was called).

EDIT: Changed "The Beast" to "The Beastie."

Ok then Luke of the flies why dont you honor us with your version? :p

iceman3019 10-28-2004 08:38 PM

well, the characters are from like 6 - 12 years old and immature so i can understand that, but the ideas that the characters develop and they tension between jack and ralph is great . . .

Foxfire 10-28-2004 08:39 PM

iceman: go to the 6-string Fretless thread thingy.

Oh man, if you think there is a lot of symbolism in that book, read "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead" by ... crap, who is it .... Tom stoppard, that's it. Or read "A Dolls House" by Ibsen. Both are so symbolic that basically every line can be taken in at least 2 different ways. The first one is actually reall funny, and i'd reccommend it for you guys to read.

:amaze:

Foxfire 10-28-2004 08:40 PM

Rosencrantz and the Guildenstern are Dead by Tom Stoppard.

Cool, I need a new book to read.
Ok then Luke of the flies why dont you honor us with your version? :p
First, I would have broken the conch on Piggy's face then minute he found it. Then I would ahve drowned Jack, and scared Ralph and the littluns into being my slaves.
