I discovered Bill Withers. So I've been loving that.
He's great, isn't he. I just ordered Still Bill last night, actually, having loved Just As I Am so much. He's got all kinds of songs to his name that I didn't know were him. Anyway, I've mostly been digging a bunch of metal(ish) CDs I bought recently. Genghis Tron - Cloak of Love. Bought it because it was cheap and I was interested to hear them. I like it. Short enough that the New Order-goes-grind thing doesn't get old, and some of the songs are just really good. Black Elk - Black Elk was a bit disappointing. Was expecting some good loud and dirty punk/rock, and while it is loud and dirty, it isn't particularly good. Suppose it might get better with repeated listens, and the last track (8 minutes long, slower, with some reverb and echo and stuff going on) picked it up a bit, but still. Would rather listen to Coliseum. The Meads of Asphodel - The Mill Hill Sessions. The Meads are yet to disappoint me, and even though this isn't a proper album (six old tracks re-recorded live, and one half-new, half-medley 22-minute closer) it carries that on. Great mix of punky black metal, Hawkwind-style space rock, plain heavy metal and even occasional drum'n'bass. Looking forward to a new album, I hope, and maybe even some live shows. The others aren't really worth mentioning here, I think. |

Which album would you recommend me starting with? |
Exhuming the Grave of Yeshua is probably my favourite of their albums, so go with that, if you can.

Thanks, I'll try and get a copy cheap off ebay or something. I just listened to '80 Grains' again, it's amazing how the song just switches so dramatically in the middle with the hebrew chanting and middle-eastern style music. |
Cocteau Twins - Treasure
|
Fly Pan Am - N'ecoutez Pas
|
Mazzy Star - So Tonight That I Might See
how is benoit pioulards whole cd compared to the song on the album review? because i didnt like the song on the album review, it sounded like he was aping grandaddy and doing a bad job of it.
It really doesnt remind me of Grandaddy at all. Upon more listenings, its not something I'll probably get obsessed with, but it's a nice drive/relax album. |
I've been alternating between Envy and Fly Pan Am for the last couple of hours. it's going to be hard to find something to listen to after i stop this marathon.

The Beatles - Revolver

Aswad - A New Chapter of Dub
The Only Ones - Special View Also; Red Seal - Black Ops ^^Just found this on a blog, can't find out much about it on the internet but there's some really sweet ambient/dub music on here. http://ptf2012.wordpress.com/2007/01/06/red-seal-black-ops |
dEUS - The Ideal Crash
Sarah Blasko - What the Sea Wants the Sea Will Have also downloading the Deerhoof and Apostle of Hustle leaks |
Is it worth checking out The Only Ones? I spent ages trying to find out who did "Another Girl, Another Planet" - Google took me to loads of Blink-182 and Replacements songs. I adore that song.

So i'd say yeah, if it's not too dificult for you to track down this album is worth checking out.
